Banning Inverts

Who skis at a mountain where inverts arent allowed? Because from what ive heard theyre completely banned in NY state, which is where i ski.

I have this idea to start a petition to get rid of this bs rule. However, i was wondering anyone had ever done anything like this before and if had been successful. Also, if we follow through with this, who would be on board to give it a go?

They are banned at my home resort but they still are thrown just about every day, even when the ski patrol sees it they normally dont do anything

Many resorts have that rule, but how many are strick enforcers of that rule?
Also many resorts have that rule for insurance reasons. It is a way for them to cover their asses.

yes this is true. its completely an insurance thing.

theyve never cared about it at my local area until just recently, and now we have to be careful about when/where we do flips. it bothers me cause i just wanna be able to do flips and have it be cool with everyone.

Ski patrol will pull your pass for doing them at Marble, Newfoundland, they also aren't allowed at Brookvale PEI.

yah dont worry about that rule, no one reinforces it.. they only put it on paper so that insurance can be happy

PA bans them. If you throw one, they will give you a warning, and if they see you do it again, then your pass if pulled.

dumbbb

Where I normally ski the patrol will yell at you if they see it but they don't normally care especially if they know you. The place I went to this weekend had a sign that said no inverts but I was trying to get some front flips while patrol was watching me.

resorts have to have that rule so some dumb ass spore whos seen the x-games too many times cant sue the resort when he wrecks himself

I have seen many kids thro flips at whitetail, PA, but i once saw a boarder throw a backflip off the side of a wallride and land from about 15ft to flat right on his stomach. The wall is right near the lift, so the lifty called ski patrol and the kid had to get up and leave before they came. The kid was pretty fucked up, but he got away in time.
Sparknotes: If you screw up on a flip and someone calls ski patrol, get the hell out!

I don't think they are banned in the state of NY. Bristol doesn't "allow" them, they just say that they aren't recommended. It has been that way for a few years now.

have never seen anything about no inverts at 7 springs and kids do them all the time.

nobody seems to care, and nobody has gotten their pass pulled.

yeah its just for liability. at jams and shit theres always gnarly flipperies going on even though the waiver says no inverts alowed

i honestly don't know what the rule is at my hill. i know they used to be banned at my old hill but then they were unbanned.

in response to 9th-The lift workers at the park at whitetail are freaking COMMMMUNISTISCS!!

they wouldn't let us take snowballs on the lift, stopped the lift cause i had my poles straps on my wrists, stopped the lift cause i dismounted going switch(180 lift dismounts FTW),

so annoying, and about flips, my brother threw his first one last weekend.... couldn't quite get the rotation,, and landed off axis. pretty close though.

and in response to "gnarly flipperies" they kick you out of jams PLUS rip your ticket/pull your pass, for inverts.

this one snowboarder who had the jam won, hands down decided to throw a rodeo 2 off a cannon rail that we have, and got kicked out of the jam, and had his pass pulled. had to go to public relations to get it back.

BS.

the point of this is more to let those of us who are doing inverts to be able to practice and do them legaly while beginers can actually learn them without having the added risk of getting in troubleim all for it

Every place here in iowa does. I think Russell and a few other guys got their passes pulled last year for throwing some on the last day.

Thats cuz whitetail has aids, but for some reason i keep going back. During the liberty slopestyle, the kid who one did a backflip and a misty 7. Liberty park crew is so much more chill. Plus i would never do a flip off of a whitetail jump. Thats just deadly!

i think the only way that makes since for them to yell at u is if u dont know what ur doing and land on ur neck or something and some crap hill i went to a few imes last year had that but i threw what ever i wanted to ski patrol would just stare me down

I've never had a problem with them. At the bottom of our park (right infront of the lift) is where my friend and I learned flips. No one did anything. (Bristol btw)

"Inverts" are banned at my mountain. I got caught doing a backflip and they said if they catch me again they'd pull me pass. So I asked what they considered to be an invert and he said backflips and frontflips, and before I could even ask he said "rodeos, corks, mistys, and flatspins are ok" which I thought was stupid (I didn't say anything for fear that those would get taken too) but in my head all I could think was that those are harder and more dangerous than backflips. I thought it was weird.

its that train of thought that really bugs me. you shouldnt be allowed to cork, but not backflip. cork is way more technical and dangerous. i know of way more injuries from cork than straight flips.

Most places they say they arent allowed, but that just means they are not recommended because they dont seem to do shit at my mountain even thought they say they are banned

I used to ski back east at Attitash and kids would have to watch out for patrol when doing flips and a few kids got banned. I moved to Colorado and thought it was weird/cool seeing people free to throw flips

I backflipped in front of a ski patrol off a gnarly side booter so I was stoked and I was like, "Yeah! Did you see that?"

Ski Patrol: "Not officially"

I'll try to clear up some common misconceptions here...

1) Inverts are not banned in NY, that's just false. Make sure you put down your safety bar though, that's a state law. haha

2) Resorts ban inverts as a means of "covering their ass" for insurance purposes. Problem is, it WILL NOT help them AT ALL in a case against them unless they literally have an employee monitoring every feature on the mountain during every second of operating hours. When a resort says inverts are banned, they have to be able to patrol it at ALL times. For this reason, you'll see the majority of resorts say that "inverts are not recommended".

3) For the reason listed above, it is easy and completely legit for a resort to ban inverts during a competition. They can patrol the entire competition and if someone were to get hurt during the comp b/c they fell doing an invert, this would help them in a legal case.

Also, regulations change from state to state and across different insurance companies so this may not be true everywhere. These are the circumstances at my home mountain in NY. Hope that clears some things up...

my mountain doesnt allow them, but no one used to care, but so far this season if ski patrollers see you doing it they will give you a warning, and if you do it again they will clip your pass

The hill I park crew at has signs with "inverts are not recommended". the old school signs I found in the back sheds say "No Inverts. Pass will be pulled" which I might take home come end of the season.

I asked a manager this year and he said it was cool because I was on skis... I was doing them on the clock too...

^hahaha its kinda the same for mine too. unfortunately, they have been cracking down and me and my buds have have had a several warnings from various people including the park crew. it kinda sucks.

my resort now lets people do them if they hike the park after hours, its a step in the right direction for sure!
