Bank Fraud...

Long story short, i live in Michigan, my debit card was used in Plainfield, PA, and i was charged $410 at a Sunco gas station. I never lost the card, I only bought one thing in the past few months online (ebay via paypal) and I really have no idea how it happened. my bank is checking everything out to make sure i got my money back and what not. but does anyone have any ideas? hell i called the sunco station and i was told to call back today before 2pm and talk to the manger. if someone was paying for $400 of gas... unless it was a semi or something, wouldnt that bring up a falg or something? hell my bank didnt even find the error, i did. i noticed my account said -$8....

whatever this is more of a rant, but does anyone have any ideas on how this happened?

Happens more often then you think and the reason to keep an eye on your monthly statements for both debit and credit cards. Its actually pretty easy for scammers to clone your cards using hacked readers and pin pads (often found at sketchy gas stations) and then they just sell the info or make fake cards to use themselves.

something happened to me the opposite way... i'm pretty sure my bank gave me a grand for no apparent reason

or someone wrote me a thousand dollar check and cashed it for me

but my gf's brother had this happen and they got it all straightened out so i'm sure it'll be legit

It should be straightened out fairly easily, my girlfriends mom's card number was taken from a guy packet sniffing outside of Best Buy. He was just sitting in his car hacking into their network!

I've had my social security number stolen...so ya, i know what you're going through. It'll get taken care of no problem.

At a mcdonalds in my town there was this dude who was copying down people's credit card numbers and names and all the card information then saying something like oh you look so young! how old are you really and they would get flattered and tell him their age. So now he had their name, credit card #, date of birth, and their card's expiration date. He made some small purchases and didn't get caught for a few years until he tried buying a ferrarri off ebay and the bank called the real owner of the card after hearing about the $150,000 purchase. Idiot could have had free clothes and food his wholelife if he kept it on the DL but he had to buy a ferrarri and end up in jail. Idiot.

also beware if you have the pay pass touch and go card, scammers are literally just walking through lines where people are hold those cards and they only have to get like 2 feet away from you and the scanners will pick up all of your cards information, keep that shit in the middle of your wallet if you got it and dont take it out till you are ready to pay.

that's fucked.

same shit happened to my mom's card. like within the past couple weeks....

charges at gas stations...grocery stores. w/e. and all ive done is use it online thru paypal/couple other trusted sites.

My family has actually had some interesting problems with identity fraud actually haha..

So I had my social security number stolen and some cards taken out in my name. That got taken care of realtively quickly though thankfully.

Then my parents had their card numbers stolen. The person charged a bunch of shit and then he bought $40,000 worth of airline tickets and fled the country. They never caught him but American Express didn't make us pay the tickets. It was a pretty funny call actually, they called us in person and asked us if we were traveling anywhere and then said someone charged 40 G's of airline tickets to their cards haha.

kinds sounds the convo my dad had. i get home from school and get a call from my dad "you didnt go to brooklyn and spend 4 grand on jewlery did you?" "no why?" "well someone did with one of our credit cards". got hacked outa hannaford

wow! ya nothing that bad. I dont have pay pass. It just sucks right now because I bank account is frozen. they did that "for my own safety" so all i have is $100 until this shit get figured out...

maybe you bought gas there with your card, and then the pump didn't reset after you filled up, so that the next person who went to that pump filled up on your card, and the next one after that...?

I dont know, but you'll be covered.

that sucks so much. the things scammers use to get ur credit card # and info r called skimmers. some of them r mad good and some r crude. if ur ever suspicious of how an atm looks or anything u swipe ur credit card with move on. better safe then srry.

+ karma cus that really sucks., hope it gets worked out.
