that is in no the NS's fault, thats the fault of the parent if their child sees something bad. kids can go to NS, they can also go look at porn. either way the internet provides kids with a way to see whatever they want so deleting a cult that is actually pretty useful and amusing wouldnt accomplish anything except piss people off
 
That implies an exercise of power for the satisfaction of its exercise. Not the case. In reality, the policy in effect in this thread is just to get rid of anyone who causes extra work for the site staff.
 
Unfortunately this opens up a whole new door. If you're going to ban people or delete posts that say nigger or something else racist, then I bet someone will start bitching that you have to delete the posts that say something is "gay" or someone's a "retard" or a "fag." None of these bother me, but then again I' not black or gay or retarted. I'm just wondering where you are going to draw the line? What's okay and what isn't?
 
i'll be honest i say it occasionally hell it says it in my sig but if someone came to be and said that they found that it was offending them i would take it away, same applies to this if alot of people are truely offended then tell people to stop saying it, most people probably will also, occasionally it will get said out of habit but your problem will basically be solved
 
I dont think we need to be looking at banning a single word, ever. I think what you need to look at is the context in which words are used. It is probably possible to drop the N bomb and not be offensive at all. What should come into question here is not any single word, but the level on which a post can offend those who it refers to. You dont need to ban the word "gay", but it wouldn't be a bad idea to ban posting of material that is prejudice against gays. If I say "this thread is gay" thats mostly immaturity, on a huge level, but more than likely a 12 year old posted it, not intending to offend homosexuals in any way whatsoever. What we need to examine in determining how strictly NS will be moderated should have nothing to do with single words, but rather would deal with how vulgar, prejudiced, and offensive a post can be before it crosses the line.

Why the fuck are people so concerned about being so goddamned politically correct? I have several "African-American", as PC'ness forces me to say, who will use the word nigger as a way of identifying me when they are talking to me, and dont really care that i use it either - wanna know why? Because they are fucking using it right there, and if there is THAT much of an issue with the damn word, then even "African Americans" wouldnt use it.

That brings me to my next point - the term African American is pretty much racist, because its taking on the ignorant assumption that AAAAAAAALL black people come from Africa, not so.

Anyway, i don't know what in you made you take on the role of saint of Newschoolers, but if you really want to do something, this isn't the way. Instead, set the example yourself, call people out on an individual basis, in a PRIVATE manner. Then you can get an intelligent conversation going, and explain your viewpoint, then the other will explain why he doesnt feel like its that big of a deal.

Jokes man, I agree with a lot of your post. The facts are that NS will never come remotely close to politically correct, and most of that is bullshit anyways. All it is is a double standard. A black rapper drops the N bomb, hes ok, whit guy says it and hes "racist" But you have to remember that NS should be a tad bit concerned about its image, and if a comment is blatantly racist, our standards dictate that it be deleted, most of what some people would call common sense aside.

Butler (1992) to American Booksellers v. Hudnut (1985) or R v. Keegstra to RAV v. City of St. Paul (I forget when). And secondly, it's a private website on which free speech isn't a right and can be stifled on the whim of the administration! Fun times. from what I've seen in this would, you really can't have a fake black friend. unless of course he's one of those imaginary friends that kids and acid freaks have.

i extend to you an invitation to visit the jane and finch or rexdale areas in Toronto and go up to a black guy and use the N-bomb in any way shape or form. if you leave alive or even walking i would be extremely impressed.

no matter in what context that word is used it is offensive. if those little fucks at ninthward want to use it, fine. it just makes them look like bigger idiots every day. you say your friends are cool with it? fine, they just don't know what that word really means and i really think none of you little shits understand that either. personally, i don't like being called a cracker for the old meaning behind it.

People bitch about free speech, and such, they should go die. If you are pissed about the way the site is run, its your problem. You put yourself in the position that you're bitching about, therefore the best way to fix the problem would be to leave. That would solve a lot of problems.

Personal views (those expressed in this thread) aside, please remember that we dont have any power, the site administration will do what it wants, whenever the fuck it wants to do it.

You are one case among thousands.

All it takes is one incident. One 13 year old accidentally shows his mom some bad shit at the wrong time of the month, the lawsuit gets filed and NS goes bye bye. We dont have any warnings about offensive material before your enter, and I dont know how the legal issues go here, but I bet somebody who was so motivated could really fuck up what we have here. Its really pathetic, but there are people like that out there, and it only takes one of them to end it all.

I find it funny how it is a rediculous taboo for a caucasian individual to aim racism towards an african american, Yet, almost every african american stand-up comedian has some form of satiric racism towards "white dudes." i, at least, read the word in my head, and i know it's the damn word. Anyone reading that KNOWS it's the same word, and so the damage caused by actually saying it is virtually the same, if people actually really cared.

alot of black people tell me that "nigger" is not always racist. if you say something in a hostile way that is considered racist. but alot of people use as a word for an ignorant person or some people refer to someone that is there friend as their "nigger" or "nigga" however you say it.

i definitley would not refer to anyone with tht word cuz they might decide they want to beat my ass.

but if this site is racist for having a person type "nigger" than are alot of rappers racist for saying it in their raps?
 
i really dont think age matters but im 15 and yeah say i dont know what im talking about idc. i have friends that are black and if you say ni**** around them, THEY DONT CARE!! the only way people find it derogatory is if you call THEM it. like you lazy ass ni**** go to work or something of that nature.
 
Dude, you can't say N*******d. People have gotten banned for posting up that exact same comment in this exact thread. Shit got deleted too, because sometimes when NS bans people, they have to cover it up, otherwise they'd look like idiots.
