Badlands Suggestions

I'd like to open this up to all those people who ride at badlands.

Use this forum to tell us your opinions on the park! I'll make sure that all suggestions are passed on to the correct people.

Try to comment on feature size, selection, condition.... that kind of thing. I want to know if you feel jumps are too kicky, too mellow, whatever. Just use this as a place to speak your voice!

I'm all over it!

i would like to have more kickers with lots more table. i feel pity for the one up there right now. but i know... there is not to much snow to build a big mama. great pipe and challenging rails though. maybe a down flat down rail could be up.

Table under the chair will not be built this year... it was too dangerous with all the people that would try to hit it.

The jump got built up a bit last night, and we're trying to make it a good size with the small amount of snow available.

Down flat down rail is in the works, worry not.

I'm all over it!

what made that one specific one so dangerous? People trying to show off under the chair? or the location? or what?

yeah, it sucked ass under the chair. but it was fun to try the death transfer

I say that you add some snow to the park. tee hee. No seriously, I had a blast the last couple of days, the park is really good for the conditions. I'm real pissed that it's raining.

Yeah, as Jodi said, it was in too high of a traffic area. There would frequently be five people trying to hit the same jump. We tried fencing, bamboo, building rolls in the terrain, everything. Nothing worked, so we're just going to try and build a similar style jump in the slopestyle course.

Weather looks promising later this week, so hopefully there will be some blowing temperatures. Only takes 2 or 3 days of -6 or more and we'll have tonnes of new stuff up.

I'm all over it!

The rails are sick, what you definitely need is that kind of selection for tables.

You need like a 10, 20, 35, and 55 foot tables, that way you'll split the talent and the traffic over the different sizes of tables. People will be able to learn and progress, starting from the smallest, and working up to the biggest. The people who can already huck won't have to deal with newbies and newbies won't be intimidated by the veteran huckers.

Please build many tables of various sizes, and when you do, PLEASE salt them regularly...ruts and ice SUCK!

I prefer tables over kickers or step-downs. I feel much more comfortable trying new things on tables for some reason. I think it has something to do with the high and long takeoff and the fact that you’re not thrown so high in the air. So my suggestion would be building more tables of various sizes. As for rails, I kind of like the way it is right now but would only ask for maybe a few more setup all in a row so we can do lines with lots of variety. Right now I am hitting the top flat 20, the 50footer and the s-rail. Sticking the C rail and couple other flats and kinks in between would be swell. There is lots of room in and around the park to fit everything in its own place. The one thing I hate is seeing all these empty areas in the park and rails sitting useless in the trees. I know it’s been a sketchy beginning to the season but I know even in the past when we had lots of snow not everything was setup.

In summary (in my opinion) Tables over step downs and more rails all over the place. Variety = fun = progression!

Seb

The high rail, you should make that like a 5 ft gap to get on and about a 3-4 ft bigger drop, not that I'm hitting it or anything but that would look sick on film. The rails are set pretty sick right now. I think what would be mint would be a huge transfer jump, like a 60 ft table transfer, I guess it would be really dangerous and there is prolly like no chance in hell you would be allowed to build that, but ya, that would be sick. Another thing that would be cool is if the pickle pipe had like a box on the top of the wall as a permanent feature, like the main pipe had one last spring for a few weeks, it would be sick if you had like a 6 ft high, 20 ft long box on the pickle pipe, or a smaller one, it would all be good.

Canon Optura 20 For Sale - Basically brand new, only used a couple times, you get everything you would if you bought it in the store, comes with everything, mint condition, picture in my profile of what is included, message me if interested.

OK, I love it... keep them coming.

In terms of jumps of various sizes: Yes. We are really planning to build a good, solid progression of jumps.

There will be the same for rails.

I know that right now there is a lot of dead space in the park, but we scraped ALL the snow from everywhere to make the left wall of the pipe, and the current features.

After two nights of good solid cold temperatures, we will do the best to build everthing we can given the amount of snow.

There will hopefully be a more solid slopestyle course up by next week.

Ummmm.... did I answer some of your questions?

I'm all over it!

That is almost perfect. Row of little tables on one side, intermediate type stuff in the middle, big stuff on the other side.

Needs some rails and funboxes though.

i agree with what was said about jumps but of course you will need snow. I think the next major step in evolving badlands is to open up the area to the upper left of the lift with a rope tow or somthing. i know it would cost quite a bit to install, maintain, and staff it but there is plenty of room up there that has not been used excpet for hikable features and it would really improve the quality and length of runs

yeah that would be nice boby, but i mean comon, there is rarely any line for the terran park and it takes like 3 mins to get to the top... it would be a waste to get rope tows.. and besides features always move around

i was up there right after xmas and i would agree with more jumps. The one jump that was there was really good I thought but a little big for what I like to try tricks off of. The rails seemed good.

Coming Soon...

The table that is set up beside wave rail is really nice. It has the right amount of kick on it, and it is the perfect amount of air for the landing there. The landing is also sweet on it. I remember from years before the landings would always hurt, but this one is nice and steep.

A suggestion might be to close half the park, for a bit, before night skiing starts to groom over the landings so huge bomb holes don't form after rails and tables.

get a couple of hips in there for sure too... please....

i really thought last year's hip after the pickle pipe was cool. it was outta the way but still an accessable feature.

keep it pumping straight to my heart

Wallride isn't quite up yet.... but it's almost finished and will be in place within a few days.

I'm all over it!

please tell me you got rid of that aluminum rail

The aluminium rail is the worst rail ever. How big is the wallride and where is it located?

we need that big pink urban style rail setup soon. i wanna hit that so bad.

All in good time, all in good time.

Tonight, the blue mountain park staff had to dig out the High flourescent green rail. It was FOUR FEET under the snow. The TOP of it.

Right now there is obnoxious amounts of snow blowing in the slopestyle course and the halfpipe.

Massive amounts of building are going to start within a few days, and there will be a lot of good stuff to ride very soon.

However, for the next few days, we are going to continue blowing as much snow as we can, so that our features can be bigger and better.

As well, we're going to start constructing smaller jumps and rails that everybody can get warmed up on.

I'm all over it!

put in a huge spine!!! it lets everyone learn, you can go small or big. But spines allow you to do some sick shit that you can't do on tables or step downs. So throw a spine in there.

What about a quarter pipe? I remember Blue having one years ago but I havent seen one since..

-Randy

I really want to do the quarterpipe.

It will primarilly depend on whether we have the space or the snow, but we have been talking about doing a quarterpipe after the big air jump.

Updates for now: We have begun constructing the jumpline in the slopestyle course. It will probably be 25-35-45. First two tabletop style and last one big air jump.

Also, we have begun construction on a more developed beginner/intermediate course. There should be a line of jibs and jumps up by this weekend.

The top of the high green rail was buried under 4 feet of snowmaking snow yesterday, so we have a lot of snow to work with now.

Just wait until the wednesday night slopestyle next week... the park will be SICK.

I'm all over it!

yay for beginner/intermediate lines

I love being in badlands, but I end up feeling way out of place surrounded by 25+ foot booters. So some 10/15/20 foot tables and hips anyone who doesn't suck ass from a can of canned ass can hit would be really nice.

25-35-45 sounds awesome and perfect!! I can't wait.

Personally, I'd much rather see a big hip than a quarter pipe. If you want a quarter pipe-like hit, you can always just do one hit in the pipe and it's fairly similar. But you can't really imitate a hip very well.

I remember a few years ago they had a HUGE hip (roughly where the 50 foot rail is right now) and it was really cool. The lip was like 20 feet off the ground. Except it was kind of icy and chunk when I was there. I'm sure you guys could make a hip like that even better now.

i would prefer a quarter pipe. Where would the smaller slopestyle course be, beside it?

What did people think of the park today?

The jumps were pretty fun. I think that second jump is going to turn into a table/hip fairly soon....

I'm all over it!

I really liked that first jump! Perfect for hitting switch.

The second jump was really nice too.

It looked like a 3rd and 4th jump are in the making? That would be soooo awesome.

the first jump was nice, on sat night it was really icy but it was so smooth it didnt matter, keep it up, the only negative thing was that the pipe was a tad undervert and you have to dig out the s rail.

Smoke 2 Joints

The pipe is undervert and we know it.... however right now we're scraping the entire slopestyle course down to dirt to build the features as big and nice as possible. By tuesday morning, all of the big rails will be up, and there will be a three jump line. Pictures will be posted on tuesday.

So for all of those who are able to make it, wednesday night's slopestyle competition should be SICK.

The S-rail will get dug out and moved as soon as we're finished the slopestyle course.

I'm all over it!

It looked like the jump line is going to have 4 jumps in it....is that the plan? That would be awesome....

spines are pretty damn sweet...moonstone had a nice one last year

I'm glad to hear that you like what we've done, Jodi.

Yes folks, the last three nights have been about caffiene, cats and shovelling. The Blue Mountain park staff has been working until sunrise every night to build you the best slopestyle course we have ever had.

The finishing touches are being put on it tonight, and by tomorrow it will be ready to rock.

Hope to see you all out at the wednesday night slopestyle.

I'm all over it!

That sounds awesome Doug, cant wait to get up there and hit it all. While we are celebrating I wanted to share an extra idea with you guys...

Why not build a 10-15foot high pyramid with a 20’ by 10' wide FLAT platform on the top. Stick the pyramid at the bottom left of the pipe and to the right of the money booter. Then stick a couple picnic tables on top of the platform. Stick some extensions on the legs of the tables that slide into the snow so no one goes sliding off the pyramid sitting on the table. How is this cool? Well it will give photographers and filmers some wicked angles to film riders from and will give those of us (including park techs) a great place to sit for a bit, relax and watch the action unfold around you. All you need to do is stick a small fence above it so people dont jib on it. I would also recommend somehow shaping the body of the pyramid like stairs so people can walk up safely to the top or sit on the stairs during a comp when the top platform is full of people. The stairs will allow the pyramid to be steep enough to make it not take up half the mountain at the base but manageable enough for people to walk onto. I think people will LOVE this thing.

i dont QUITE get what ur saying d00d (as in the construction and what it would look like), but what u explained it to do sounds nifty

ya, I can picture it, that would be pretty sick, have a tent up there, maybe a bbq, sick times just chilling out.

best idea ever... the one thing blue is lacking is solid camera angles. Having an elevated spot to shoot the rails and the money booter would be a dream come true.

you can't spell sick without ck
