yeah ben folds for sure. look for the songs philosophy, zak and sara, fired, and pretty much anything else that guy has done. he also does a killer elton cover. other piano rockers may inclued rufus wainright, something corperate tori amos and of course you have elton john and billy joel. ben folds is my favorite of the genre though.

Jamie Cullum, album 'Twenty Something?' He had no formal piano training except for some very early lessons, he is entirely self taught and does not read music, but learns entirely by ear. Jazz artist out of the UK, very contempary.

Thelonious Monk, good call, CT-ripper, a bit more of a traditionalist, but very good indeed.

If you're seriously interested, pick up a Jazz Masters album.
