Bad year for simon?

Dude i for one feel kinda bad for him. Coming in 2nd in pipe, not winning big air, getting injured, and everyone hating on empire and him. Lets not forget what he does for our sport, he gives us so much exposure and legitimizes our sport a ton. Without him people would categorize freeskiing along with air racing, snowmobile jumping, sky boarding, base jumping, bmxing, mxing, street racing, etc (i.e. second tier "action" sports).

Yea yea i know tanner deserved to win pipe and tons of respect to him, dont get me wrong, but i think ns should show simon a lil more respect than hes getting right now.

What makes you think we all want our sport more exposed? More exposure means our sport becomes just like everything you listed above, a fucking clown show.

I don't need the justification of the general public to love and enjoy what I do, skiing.

every pro has the exact opposite mindset as you..... if our sport was more exposed.... who knows what could happen........ brand new skis for 250? goggles and helmets half as much? so many more pros being able to make a living off of it..... in the 1930s pro baseball players worked a summer job, thats where skiings at now.....

Why haven't snowboards dropped in price since their sport has blown up?  I am sure ski and gear prices would stay constant, or maybe rise.

people hating on simon? certainly not anyone who has an educated opinon that matters thats for sure.

I don't know what you are talking about, this is a great year for Simon. Creating the NAO, starting Empire, merging with Accomplice, what could be better?

actually, people are dissing him. he can rub people the wrong way.

he can be egotistical, arrogant, rude, and a punk. on the other side he is a really good skier and a lot of people seem to like him. i am just not one of them. anyone who starts a company and puts their name in it is a bit too self-promoting for me...

when tanner hall helped launch armada he never called the company "tanner hall's armada"

the kid is having a great year. he bought a house in summit county, he podiumed at x, started a big open contest, he seems to get laid enough to write something that stupid on a shirt, and is attempting (but failing thus far) at starting a company.

And yea it seems like a good year for him. He is big ballin'. Has his own company, podium at X, tons of exposure which it seems he wants, can't complain with that. I'm also excited for the open, it's a great idea.

Yeah I can't wait until all the ski companies go out of business, along with not having enough money for film sponsorship etc. It's also going to be cool when the pros don't make enough money to support themselves etc. Even better will be the fact that resorts will turn their backs on the freeskiing community and not cater to them whatsoever... sounds great

a bad year???? i bet all of simon's sponsers were fucking cumming all over there pants watching tanner get boo'd at pipe/ i dont think i singal thing could make the sponsers happier than that right there.

Um, isn't baseball played in the summer man?

I'll happily pay $500 for skis as long as I don't see skiing turned into Sal Masakela's favorite sport.

the people who dont want all this exposure just want to be the "core athleat" or watever and one of the few kids on teh hill while pros want more money, etc for the sports/themselves

I feel worse for sammy, no podiums or anything, he didn't even qualify for finals in anything so far

simon is just getting a little hate from some people, tanner hall took years and years of abuse from the people of NS and simon has been getting like 2 months worth.....my point is there are always gunna be haters but it will stop eventually..

your a cunt

you dont know him

dont judge him

I have talked to him before and he was super chill so shut the fuck up

you are ignorant

do not speak

Is that why tanner got boo'd! everyone and their mother loves Simon. And how could you feel bad for someone who gets paid as much as Simon to ski. In-fact I don't feel remotely bad for any of these guys. I only feel bad for those who suffer life altering injurys.

I used to ski SR with him and honestly he was amazing at skiing yet still a cock-bag!

Looks like you hit a nerve with this kid because he thinks he knows Simon after saying what's up to him at Keystone on his 3 day out west trip of the year.

this might be why he drinks out of his shoe, for no reason.

at us open, he just busted his shoe off and was drinkin redbull and vodka out of his shoe for no reason. haha.

Is there ANY comp he entered since last september that he didnt podium in???

I wouldnt say it's a bad year for him.

he didnt win gold at x and hurt his shoulder.

It's not like he would have blown both knees on his first photoshoot after getting last in every contest he entered so far this year.

In my opinion, he's killing it this year and will keep on doing it if he can get that shoulder back to health.

yeah he for sure is killing it. an injury you cant say is that rough i mean most skiers get one this is just when simon got his and it wasnt even that bad compared to some other skier's injuries. Also like someone said 2nd at x. omg how can he live with that. hes not having a bad year and yeah people hate on him and i do too sometimes because i know people he has been a jerk to. my two cents enjoy

did you not see my SIMON FOREVER threads? we still love him.

i think the person who has had the real hard year is mr. sammy carlson. didnt even qualify for x or the open.

I'm sorry, people are going to argue with me but baseball players do not deserve to make millions a year, hell, they don't even deserve to make hundreds of thousands a year to play a god damn game. Athletes (football players, basketball, baseball) are the most ridiculously overpaid "workers" in the U.S.. They make no substantial difference in the world, they simply provide entertainment. They are clowns, with thick necks that play with balls. SImilarly, pro skiers probably don't "deserve" to make millions a year either. Sure they should be able to make a decent living but I don't think people should be looking to skiing to become sponsored or to become rich. It should just be about going out there and riding and having fun, which brings me to my point (this has nothing to do with SImon, sorry for off topic, but honestly people need to let Simon do his thing, he is an amazing skier and is just tyring to do his thing.).

Less exposure for skiing might mean higher prices, or whatever, but that means the really dedicated riders, the people who really care about just skiing and not all the bullshit will find a way to get out there and make it happen. A five mt. pass for $350 is the worst idea in the history of the industry and is destroying Denver accesible skiing in Colorado as we know it. I wouldn't mind one bit paying $1000 or even $1500 (or more) for a 5 mtn. pass if it meant skiing was less popular. Less exposure, higher prices means a less accesible product for the general public which ultimately means less traffic to/from/and at the mountains, more and longer lasting powder for me, and less of an environmental impact from droves of people migrating to the mountains every weekend. Any way I slice the cake, less exposure for skiing seems like a good thing to me. If I have to pay 3 times as much for my pass and equipment to have 33% less people on the hill everday it is worth it to me. all this corporate sponsor exposure bullshit and the endless pursuit of making skiing popular is sickening just go out there and ride some damn mountains. I want powder, and I am sick of not having it anymore. *end rant*

ya it seems everybodies kind all "oohhhh poor tanner he got booed (which was lame a shit, im not sayin anythin bad about t right now, just how this is taking away from dumont), his run was WAY better than dumonts, blah blah blah and now it seems that dumont took a way more backseat position after X than 2nd place would normally offer considering all the publicity T got.

wow you are the biggest retard ever. You probably have never played a sport, are extremely unathletic, have gotten tooled on by "the cool kids," and/or suck at skiing.

You know how difficult it is to make a major team? Every kid starts out playing sports but only about .5% of them make it to the pro level. they make a tremendous difference in the world in terms of advertising etc. Also, they only work for like 10 years and not everyone gets millions a year. Some get several grand. Thats not that much when you consider that the average football player lives to 58, they all have chronic injuries, they get fired when they reach 35, and they banked their entire future on making it to the pro level... People get paid based on their abilities too. If theyre such clowns and what not how bout you try to go be an athlete?

bullshit. everyone and their mother would be whining on here if vail resorts raised their pass price. shit, people are going to whine when the colorado pass goes back over $500.

Exactly. Thank you for validating my point. If people on this site, who are into skiing enough to post on a skiing website aren't willing to pay for a pass, a lot of other people won't as well. = less people on the mountain. Thank you.

Yea I probably would whine for awhile, unless it had a true effect, and then it might be worth it. I just think it is an interesting point. In colorado, a law was proposed to require skiers to pay a toll to use i-70. I think the better idea would just be to raise pass prices. That is the main bulk of i-70 traffic anyways, the 5 mountain day skiers.

People who hate on Simon for being "arrogant" don't actually know him. He's a friend of a friend and the story I hear has him being all about respect for people who earn it from him, for people he thinks deserve respect. And I'm the same way.

'Course I'm pretty arrogant. Oh well. I thought I had a point when I started.

no simon is a huge fucking tool. sure he is really good at skiing, thats cool and all but i really dont give a shit. if someone has a shitty attitude, i dont like them.
he is extremely cocky, he named his company after himself, "simon dumonts empire" that right there says that he is in love with himself.
ive seen him skiing at keystone all the time and his attitude just plain sucks. sure if you walk by him and say "hi" he might seem pretty chill. but i constantly hear him talking shit, he hates on no poles like crazy, he has this me me me, gotta be the best, football jock, cocky asshole attitude.
and ive heard so much shit about him from people who have seen him/ somewhat know him, i know alot of stuff could be rumors, but from what ive seen of him, most of its most likely true.
plus his company is fucking terrible.

k to everyone who keeps saying Empire Attire is called "Simon Dumont's Empire" please go to www.empireattire.com (there i even linked it for you) and tell me where on that site it says the brand is called "Simon Dumont's Empire" and not Empire Attire.

who cares about empire the only kids that will wear that crap are 16 year olds that think " ooo Empire, so progressive and original" seriously how much thought did he put into that name
