Bad Way to Start the Season

Today I finish up my midterms and decide to call around and find some snow from the Ice arenas- load the truck up and get my backyard 30ft flat-down ready for its Seasonal Inauguration and put on my brand new boots.

Suit up and Drop in.... only to immediately dislocate my shoulder jumping onto the rail- Now I know this sounds silly, but I dislocated my shoulder about 6 times last season and once this summer so it has been a serious reoccurring problem, but I had been working it in the off season and was hoping to not need surgery until maybe next year-

And yes I'm aware that the shoulder is only going to get worse and worse and dislocate easier every time- Anybody have luck with shoulder braces?

Bad way to start the season- cant even handle swing rotations... Every fall, my shoulder will be coming out....

Any idea how many times this will take before everything rips completely and My arm just falls off.....

Spark Notes- Dislocated shoulder today, Bad way to Start the Season out- Bummed out /rant

get surgery now before it becomes a more serious problem. Its one ski season that you have to sit out (potentially, you could probably still catch march-season ending) and your body will be in better condition for the rest of your life

it would be easy to say do it right now.. but i know if it was me I would wait till after the season, but deefinately get it done

^ I know deep down this is what I "Should do".... But Ive already got 3 trips out west planned, Season Passes Purchased, that gig ya know.. Its easier to say then do...

well my man you are what i call fucked, or banged. Ive been in the same boat my whole life. iv blown my right one out 6 times, and my left once. Every time needing to go to er for reductions. i had surgury on my right 3 years ago, skiied for a season fine, and then the next season blew it out AGAIN. Then las season overshot a jump and knocked out lefty....

Your shoulders been out 6 times without surgury and even with extreme really well done therapy it will still be real loose and you will not make it through ski season. Uhm if you maybe start a really good therapy program and take some time off the season to strengthen it you might last awile but its still coming out with a decent hit to it or even a good backshot can take it out.

And i have 2 different braces, one for each shoulder and they help a pretty good amout. Definitly get one before you start skiing again. braces will help keep it in a neutral position but with any good hit to the back of it or under the armpit its still comin out

How exactly did you plan on having a season if you can't jump onto a rail without your arm falling off? Based on your story you wont be able to ski at all, just get surgery asap. Either way you're gonna spend most of your season not enjoying skiing, might as well spend it healing so you can actually ski sooner.

the 3 times i went skiing this summer i went to the hospital 3 times

broke my hand first

got a concushen + back injury second

broke my wrist on the first weekend timberline opened

FML

GET A BRACE! My friend has dislocated his shoulder over 7 times and was in the same position, he had to either stop dislocating or get surgery. He wears a brace underneath his jacket and it worked comopeltely for him. Might not be able to pull off that double corked 1080 mute but it will have to do until you can get surgery in april.

i have super loose shoulders as well and the braces help, because they severely limit your range of motion. also you need to learn how to fall better. always, always keep your elbows at you sides when you fall, don't ever try and break you fall with your hands, and always roll. also when overshooting, or undershooting land backseat so your skis flex and take alot of the imapact, and then wash out.

i have tamahawked bad before, life full on ragdoll, but i just tucked my arms and rode it out.

but i would say, don't hit any rails, and only do tricks you KNOW you can stomp. it will kil your progression but you arnt gonna be pro anyways so just SKI on real runs

hey man, read your thread and did sympathise but thought i'd give you a boost.
I was born with hyper mobile joints made worse through dancing and both my knees, hip, shoulders and elbows dislocate my left shoulder falls out every time i lift my arm and comes out completely with weight or impact. When I learnt to ski I was twisting my knees which meant I was repeatedly dislocating my knees. Braces are incredible I don't have one for my shoulder as my ligaments are so loose there is little risk of them tearing but so long as you keep a brace on you'll be ok there's all sorts of types one with metal boning is great and they're often thinner too so don't limit you as much, just got to get used to wearing it until you can strengthen it. Can recommend a few exercises that helped even my shoulders out if it'd help :)
Honest, you'll be alright :) try and get physio rather than surgery - always a nicer option

If you are set on skiing this year, then the best option is to stay out of the park to avoid more damage. Just take it easy until you get the surgery. Just explore the mountain without doing anything that has a big chance of making you crash and mess up your shoulder even more. You will still have fun, and can return to the park after you're all fixed up.

lol

but in all seriousness get the surgery. if u need surgery u need surgery. end of story. it will be well worth it
