backseat landings and shins

Last weekend, i couldnt get anything together... Everytime i popped, i was off balance, and im blaming it on the snow. The real issue though was that i kept landing backseat, and it was making my shins hurt like hell, and they still do...what the hell is wrong? i mean, im landing backseat, so shouldnt my calfs, if anything, hurt?

yea, i let my friends watch sometimes when they get bored. ive rented out some bleachers for them to sit in actually, im thinking of making big foam hands with 'no jaime! not in there!' written on them.

no your shins will because if you land back seat your shins push into your boots i think not for sure though but my shins hurt like a bitch to because are snow is crap and u cant get any speed for the booters

I've had that problem since the beginning of december and it just wont go away. I am sure now that it wont until I stop sking in summer. I imagine yours will be the same. It sucks.

yeah...its happened a lot, and i THAT is exactly why its happening ^^ goddamn snow is so sticky.

i guess i'll loosen my boots a bit...but then it feels soo loose though =(

Damn it, lean more forward on take off!!! It will feel gnarly at first but you'll get used to it and your landings will be precise, smooth and quiet.

I got mine from way over shooting a jump. My toe nails are messed up still to.

My shins hurt like that, everyday. I'm getting more padding or something put in my boots so it doesn't hurt. Go to your local shop if it keeps happening, they'll fix you right up.

jmine do cause i ollie around and shit, it mosty cuase your shins get jammed into the fron t of your boot when you land back steat, lean back or whatever

After a couple of days of skiing at a resort which had real steep take-offs landings compared to my home resort, my calfs we're killing me due to landing backseat before getting used to the kick. I had a bruise size of my palm in my other calf.

 
get some booster straps and tighten the fuck out of em. and just dont land backseat.

how in the hell would your shins get smashed into the front of the boot when you lant BACKseat??? its from your tibia flexing much further than usual. if you take it easy, it should go away soon, unless you have a really bad case on shin splints, in which case you are going to need to take a break for a little while.

^cause when you go back your legs tilt back... and jam them into your boots, if you don't belive mem then ski around do ollies on every bump and back the entire time

well, i thought my boots were already pretty tight...i guess i'll strap them down even more...and i do have a booster/power strap on me boots (nordica w something)...eh, thanks for all the feedback.

shin splints suck. get some really comfy shoes and walk around for awhile. i've got a pair of clifford the big red dog slippers dedicated to shin splint recovery. you heard me, clifford.

Get booster straps and also when you pop off jumps try to crunch up your toes in the front of your boot...this will help in landing backseat

Strengthening your calves and stretching will also help out a lot. Also, there is a difference between the power strap and a product called The Booster Strap. The Booster Strap can either replace the power stap on your boots or work along with it. The Booster Strap is made out of elastic and you can really crank it down. It costs about 30 bucks and is probably the single best thing that I did to reduce shin bang. (I went through a lot of other things first - the idiot that I am I made the incredibly painful decision to spend 200 bucks for custom insoles - they sure are comfy, but they didn't do shit to help shin bang)

your shins are getting jammed its your calves but it like bends your shins outwards. i did that on a cork 5 in the pipe...i pretty much backslapped my tails and my ski didnt release. it was soo brutal..i couldnt move my leg. jsut give it time

Yeah, first of all, center your weight on your feet at take off, and they will be centered on landing. Also, here is my sure fire way to cure shinbang. While sitting in class, write your name with your foot in the air 20 times or so, then do it on the other foot. Then, if you have access to weights, put some 5 pounders on each foot and do toe raises. Contrary to popular belief, shin bang is a muscle issue, not a bone thing.

Solution: don't land back seat. Don't be a pussy and take pain killers since they just fuck you up in the end. Just ski through the pain and give it time, avoid landing backseat just focus and take it easy for a run or 2.

actually you're all wrong as to why your shins hurt from landing backseat. it's because when you land backseat it stretches the tissue attaching your calf to the front of your tibia. when the tissue tears, fluid builds up (hence the bumps if you've ever noticed) and there is increased sensitivity directly on the shin bone. it's brutal but a little bit of ice, tight boots, and something with just the right amount of flex can help the problem

yes the pain in yer shins in precisly from landing backseat...and for lack of speed into jumps? theres this crazy new shit called wax. i use some...its been 55 degrees here all week and im still able to clear 50ft jumps with ease
