Hey everyone,

I'm heading to Asia very soon and I need to purchase a large backpack before I go. In terms of I'm looking for a bag somewhere in the 30-40 Litre range. A removable day pack is greatly preferred. Burton and Dakine both make bags like this.

Well, sell me a bag. I'll pay for fedex shipping.

i know that the intention of this bag was to maybe find a used bag; but, if you have no luck. check out these bags.

make sure to look at the warranty - best in the industry. i have 2 vortex bags - 2200 and 4500. very well built bags - stress points are stitched through 3 places in the bag. they are awsome and the suspension is killer.

I got a Lowe Alpine Cornice 40L. It's probably 5 years old, but I haven't used the hydration bladder. Black and greenish. I have a replacement buckle for the hip strap that broke, but I think I need to get a new ladder lock (cheap to replace) for the shoulder strap. Thinking $30. Shot me your email if you want pictures.

hey, this guy bought freerides from me!

anyways dan, what are you doing with this pack? long ass hiking trips? or just something to throw your shit in for the plane ride over?

sorry if you already posted it...

I am going to be travelling around South-east Asia for about two months with no base of operations. I figure a large backpack will be the best way to transport my stuff.

the dakine guide is a good pack. you can strap a smaller pack to the outside of it if you need to dump the big one for a moment.

i have a big hiking pack that i could let go for cheap. it's kinda old but in super good condition, i took real good care of it. not very stylish but you can fit tons of stuff.. hit me up and i'll send pics if you want.

Just a suggestion, if your going to be living out of this pack for 2 months go with a 75L or so. 30-40L most likely won't cut it space wise unless you only bring a change of clothes and a few other essentials.

Yeah, I may need something a little bigger, but I won't have a ton of clothes. I'm going to be in a tropical region which means I won't have a ton of clothes I'll have to pack for different occasions.

I guess I will have to get a better idea on just how big the bags are.

- 75L is HUGE.

- After I graduated high school I spent a year in Europe traveling, do a similar thing with no base of operations. Granted the weather was different, but you don't need that much room I'd say.

- Perfect? 55-65L. Big but not too big.

- Go with a proven pack company, like arcteryx, mountainsmith, gregory, etc. NOT burton or dakine - you'll be happy you did.

- two things you should also get: a security device, i think the company is called PacSafe, its like a lockable mesh "bag" that you can put all around your pack and then collapses super small. Also, Patagonia just came out with a new line of ULTRAlightweight daypacks (like the weight of a poncho) that look awesome, could be good for day trips and also takes up as much room as a nalgene.

Good luck, have fun.

definitly gonna want at least 60L!! Or you're gonna by another pack while you're there.

I brought an 85L pack for 2 months in asia, it was about 2/3 full when i got there (i was comming from 9 months in new zealand). When i left i had that pack jammed full of stuff, and i picked up another 50L pack in the last 2 weeks which i also jammed full. Things are soooo cheap. I went to seamstresses and got about 15 articles of clothing custom made (for like 10 bucks a peice), cds and dvds in vietnam are 2 bucks each (3 bucks in bangkok), there is so much cool stuff there, it's hard not to buy.

Some people just bring the clothes on their back and an empty pack...then they just buy new clothes as the old ones wear out or get too dirty. T-shirts cost only a dollar or two..but if your on a tight budget, a dollar or two seems expensive.
