Not that I'm any valiant defender of good-old G-Dubs Bush, but I think it's a crop of bullshit that everyone's throwing up about the adminisration screwing up and allowing Sept. 11 to happen. These people are arguing for a total police state where everyone is suspect, and rampant racial profiling controls everything. Some things just can't be stopped-- sure, maybe we could have prevented the WTC attacks, but we will never be able to stop EVERYTHING. The Dems and everyone else need to realize this.

the attacks happened, they really should focus on whats happening right now in afganistan and what not and how they can prevent the same thing from happening again, not about how the CIA knew about the attacks all along and didnt prevent it, sure its important, but its allready happened

Yeah I think most people in the government (the half way intelligent ones anyways) realize sep. 11 is done and over and there is no reason dwelling too much on the past. However, the dems realize that they will have to live w/ Bush until 2008 if they don't find someway to undermine his popularity, and since the source of the popularity is how he handled Sep. 11, they are going to try and show he did not handle sep. 11 effectively at all.

it's not like they knew exactly what plane, from what airport etc etc. All they knew was that there was a very good chance that there was going to be an attack. Can't really act on that.

and how many days in the wake of 9-11 did you hear that there was a good possibility of a terroristic attack of some kind? there was threats almost every week. the cia and fbi are obviously doing their best to keep our nations security, and if one attack slipped through out of many, thats better than nothing. how do you know that the 9-11 attacks werent the only ones that they had planned?

I was watching The Seige earlier today, and basically, apolice state, would be destroying every single thing anyone in the United States has fought for over the years. Taking away liberty, is just as good as killing us, because without freedom, tere is basically no life. The terrorist actions were terrible. BUT I;d rather see that, then a police state, where yiou are watched every moment of your pathetic, confined life.

Yeah, I hate G-Dubs with all my heart, but no way the dems can pin this on him. I hate both parties, but the gop is not at fault for this one. And I've also gotta say, I'm pretty anti-two party system, and I have a lot of radical beliefs, but MUMIA was guilty. I look at all the cases in depth, I don't just listen to the bullcrap from either side, and MUMIA was definitely guilty. Leonard Peltier also had a hand in the murder of the FBI agents, but his trial was bullshit, he should have been given a mistrial, but he was a guilty man.

I'm not debating wether or not Mumia was guilty, thats pretty complex. I'm saying that he was denied like 29 of his 'constitutional rights'. It's been proven time and time again that athorities beat up on minorities and people of lower socio economic status. They are rarely shown the respect they deserve. I'm just saying, I wouldn't want to be poor or non-white if america becomes a police state

 
Personally i don't like they way the U.S is taking the world, yes it is a free country and a lot better than most of the countries in the world. Even being a Canadian going into the states is like entering a different world. The U.S should solve there problems at home before they get involved outside there country. Also i hate how the world looks to the U.S to solve there problems, what ever happned to NATO and the UN they don't seem very effective now

First of all the reason Sept. 11th happened is because our intelligence community isn't a community but a bunch of villages that hate each other and don't communicate. The CIA, FBI, NSA, DOD and others all had good info or warnings but they didn't share it with each other. Even then if 911 was stopped something else was bound to happen.

Second of all I love how people say that Bush is an idiot for this and that reason. There is not a person on the planet that knows everything and never makes a mistake or mispeeks. For the person that said he didn't know about Canada, do you know everything about the majority of countries around the world? Have you ever made a dumb mistake on a test? I thought so. Bush is doing an amazing job.

I remember an article written soon after 9-11 by Michael Tsongas. I'll pick out various points from it thaty I find particularily good...

I hate to say it, but Bush hasn't done a goddamn thing his entire life except run a forgery ring in high school. He pulled C's in high school, yet got into a prestigious academy.... how could this be? Oh, wait, his name and his money. He barely made it through college, but he did- his name, and his money. Afterwards he was put on the BOARD OF DIRECTORS of a couple oil companies (name and money) which managed to lose several million dollars... then he was elected governor of Texas (name and- you guessed it! Money!), then- well whattada know! The President of the U.S. of A! How did he get there? The good old name, and the good old money! If G.W. wasn't a Bush then he'd be just another average flunkie who didn't make it through college because he wasn't smart enough. He'd be washing dishes or maybe working a register at K-Mart. The only thing Bush has going for him is his nice homely Christian morals- thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not covet thy neighbors possessions... maybe God should add a few more Commandments- thou shalt not sell out to oil companies.
