Backfliping

I want to do a backfilp and i would like it if people would explain how to do it and also explain what their first backflip was like

I tried my first and last backflip last spring in my terrain park. I stared at this big shitty hip jump for about 40 minutes then I hauled ass into it popped off the lip looked back and I saw blue for too long so I knew I was fucked and I landed on my head. Good times.

God is an American.

You gotta really huck it the first few times, is my philosophy. I'd rather overotate and land on my back than land on my head.

would you guys suggest trying a backflip in the park for your first time? or go build a kicker somewhere where theres a soft landing

and how much speed/air do you need to do one?

if your going to try to do flips and you don't know if you'll be able to make it around do it into powder. you should be comfortable doing flips either on a tramp or off a diving board. backflips aren't even that tight, do cork spins instead.

I just tried one about a week ago. I can do them easily on tramps. I hucked it and i ended up overrotating and i was coughing blood up all night. I tried it a few times after that and it was hard to breathe for the next few days. But i went to bromley and built a jump and landed it first try... so once u can do it on a trampoline u can pretty much do it on skis.

lol, cept for the coughing up blood part...

As a confidence booster, I did a backflip and landed it the first time I tried. If you are scared, test the jump several times. I did my speed check on the jump to know how fast I needed to go, then did a 3, then just did a straight air and mentally timed my airtime to think if it was big enough. The next time, I just did it and REALLY committed. I hucked it. Just make sure you pop off the jump, not just rotate backwards. Jump up as high as you can and throw your head backwards. Once you can see the ground again, the hard part is over. Then just pull your knees to your chest, in a sense. It makes your feet come over the top and back under you for when you land. You can also judge how fast you need to do this when you are upside down. As long as you can get ski on the ground, you arent fucked. You've rotated enough taht you will just fall over.

Definately practice them on a trampoline. Not for timing, but instead to get a good feel of the rotation and what it feels like. Keep in mind you are gonna have skis and boots on so it will be a little heavier. They aren't that bad though, if the jump kicks you up, then you are almost a quarter of the rotation through takeoff. JUST THROW YOUR HEAD BACK AND COMMIT!!! TUCK IN AND ROTATE AROUND!!! YOU CEN DO ET!!!

P.S. My first jump was a box. Dunno how long, but at my highest point I was only about 6 or 7 feet in the air. Once you land it, it makes things a lot easier.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

Also, go to the inverts section of tricks under resources on here. Most of the time the people who posted are bullshitting, but there is one very good post someone made about how their coach taught them, and it is exactly what you are supposed to do. Good luck.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

Yeah man just think about it and how the rotation will feel before u get to the mountain...find a good jump, hit it a few times doin easy stuff then just go for it..The biggest thing is to commit tho and its better to throw it hard so you dont underrotate...I landed my first try because i just went for it..just totally commit and dont freak out when ur upside down and u should be fine

u just haev to go for it and thusrt your self and then make sure that ur kness go over your eha adn then u will hopfully. My first i lande on my stomach and i didnt get hurt at all

^ you dont need a tramp, i've never stepped on a tramp before and on my 3rd try i landed a flip, its actually a very simple concept after that first try, but i warn you, after you land your first one you look at every lip and wanna flip off it, there addicting!

the KEY to backflips on skis (like sooper key) is a huge explosive pop, and tucking up after. Most people (including myself) do thier first backflip really laid out and land on thier stomachs. Just jump alot and tuck er up.

hey guys i just tried a backflip and i landed on my head with my arm under my head and now i have a broken arm. thanks anyways im going to try again tomarrow cause i have a waterproof cast.

Backflips are easy once your got balls the size of Texas. Best way to practice is a diving board cause your in motion. Best advice, 4 point landing.

did that guy cam richardson really just go try it and land on his arm?? i dont belive it, i really dont. hes a lair

I'd do it on a trampoline first with someone spotting you if you've never done a back flip before ever.

Its that damn so hot right now, he so HOT RIGHT NOW!

do you really need to practice on a tramp first? i have a tramp at home, but im in college on the other side of the state and have no idea when the next time im going home is. plus, it almost seems scarier doing one on a tramp because theres no lip to start you on your rotation. any tips on how to do one on a tramp would be helpful too.

thanks

u dont need a tramp to practice.... all u need is not to think about what might happen if u fuck up and and just huck one. when i first learned i built a pow kicker, threw my head back and pulled my knees up to my chest and that was that.after u land the first one youll be kickin yourself laughing on how easy they r and wonderin why u never did them before. thats how i felt anyways. just huck one !!!!

Here's the best way.

start on a realitively small jump. when you reach the lip pretend like a hot chick is there that you want to nail. then thrust your hips foreward and look back-- if you COMMIT you won't land on your HEAD. in fact i overrotated my first one.

nice onepiece

Hes a liar. There is no way he could have gone out to a resort and tried it in 3 hours. Even if it was in his back yard I really doubt 3 hours is enough time to even cast his arm and most likely it wouldnt be till the next day so. He is a liar.

please refrain from talking too much dspinner, you're making us lose brain cells.

anyway, I tried a front flip off a relatively small pow kicker first, just to get the balls to commit to the backflip (they looked pretty haggard, and I never really landed one). Once I had the balls to do it I hucked it with my hands and upper body. I did them like that all last winter, and I never really knew why they looked so bad, and I overrotated almost 2/3 of the time. I now know that I need to pop off the lip and ARCH MY BACK AND NECK, spotting my landing the whole way through. this way they look all sick and layed out. just commit, and you won't get hurt.

I've never tried a back but am hoping to go for it eventually. Practicing on a tramp REALLY helps. I don know if you need it but knowing what it feels like has boosted my confidence that I can land it.

i've never tried one on skis yet but i can do them fine on diving boards and tramps. i think the key is just to get your back and neck arched around. some people throw themselves back hard off the lip but just keep looking straight ahead. you have to bent around backwards and keep the head looking around for the landing. i'm hoping to try one on snow soon if i find a soft jump and can get the balls to commit to it. i have another question though. How much do skis and boots and stuff slow down your rotation, as compared to doing backs on, say, a tramp. is it a lot, or not that much change?

all you have to know: POP, and Keep Looking! commit and you will see the landing and land. dont huck it too much or you will forget to pop and it will look like you slipped on a bannana peel. But above all pop

I just landed my first today and let me tell you when u land it, it is the best feeling ever. We basically build a little step-up jump. I was trying it with a friend. Basically on my fourth try I landed it and every one before that I under rotated becasue I would freek out and pause my rotation in the middle of the jump. just huck it back and keep looking for the landing and just let it flow...find the right jump though becasue the better the jump is...the better the chance of a landing.
