BACKFLIP!!

Sorry, i will understand if this gets deleted because it is a major claim.

so me and my friend(snowboarder) were over at this small jump i made( 4ft ish) and after a while of me practicing my 3's we took a break. While he was sitting down fixing his bindings i started putting a bunch of powder on the landing.

Him- "what are you going?"

Me-"putting powder on the landing"

Him- "why?"

Me- " because im going to do a backflip" at this point i am totally joking around not serius at all

Him-" haha, ya right"

Me" no honestly im going to do it"

Him- "really?"

Me " ya" still totally joking.

so then after a little while i started thinking to my self "maybe i should try it". Then i kept thinking, no this is only my second year skiing, im only at 360's. So i kept thinking about it and finally decided to give it a go, just trying to remember what people said about tucking throwing your head back. So after like 20 min i finally decided to go up to the drop in and go( 20 min is usually a long time for me because im usually the guy who does think about it to much and just goes for it). So i go for it and faceplant. Even though i faceplanted i realized that i could do this so after 4 try's of faceplants i was walking up to the top of the hill saying to my self " i can do this, i got this, this is easy stuff, i can do this" . I then drop in approach the jump, pop, throw my head back, tuck and stomp it!!!! I was super stoaked.

and i know lots fo you will be like " ooh backflip thats not that great" but i dont care because im happy i did it.

Moral of the story, it doesnt matter how much you think you suck, just believe you can do it and go for it because you never know , something that started as a joke turned out to be reality. Good luck!

uhhhh wtf, but w/e good for you, easiest trick ever. but ya the faceplant thing. i faceplanted a back once and like smashed my face really bad, lots of blood, concussion, etc.

4 ft is small to, prolly why u landed on your face. ive done smaller, but dude take that shit into the park with real jumps that are big and its so much damn fun. and everyone is like shitttt.

yyyeah buddy! i remember when i landed backflips for my first time, i had just learned 3's the same dayone of the most fun days ever! it was on those preseason whaleback mounds of blown snow they have on the east..those early years of the kickass sessions where you dont even fully know what your doing but your just hucking to be a badass...yyyyeah good times....

My fourth day ever skiing this year i tried a backflip. Your a pussy and i'm a dope ass black guy

yaaa....i'mm sooo stoked for you, i've been doing backies now for liek 2 years or something and i'm still stoked every time i do a super clean one...props brotha

i tried one last year, i dident even no how to do a backflip on a tramp. (i can do them on tramps now) so im gonna try again this year probly next sat.

Lol, thats why i was nervous. Im like oh shit maybe i shouldnt do this, i cant do it on a tramp( have tried) or on a diving bored...nah fuck it ill just go for it.

backflips are sick.. you'll have a lot of fun throwing them

its not necessarily that backflips are easy but as long as you understand what your doing and commit you should stomp or get pretty close to stomping it, unfortunately not all tricks are like this, for alot more stuff while believeing in yourself is important being able to throw it is lalot harder, backflips have alot of hype, but if you get the balls to throw your first one, you'll be impressed about how talked up they are

Fuck yeah buddy! I have been skiing a lot longer and still haven't thrown a backflip. I'm going to give it a go this year, I can do fronts, because it just seems so natural to me, but backs look like they are easier if you commit. Awesome on you man.

When im trying new tricks i always do the same thing i just say to myself " i can do this, i got this, this is easy stuff, i can do this" and then when i get up to the drop in i visualize my self going off the jump and doing the trick from a 3rd person view, then a 1st person. Just my little ritual,

oh and the key to e doing the back flip is COMMIT! if you hesitate in the air, your well...fucked.

that was some what like me today trying 5s my friend and i were getting threes and i kinda just went ah i want to land one so went bailed a few times then the last try on the jump i popped and spun and then i realized i landed it

ya never try a flip if your not full committed, but if you have the balls to try it you fortunately are likely going to commit

the best way to ride is to not plan anything. just ride through your mountain and see what natural features you can find. like down this one mogul run, there was a bump that made a perfect jump. my friend spotted it and took off with spread eagle steeze, then i tucked it in and threw my first landed lincoln.

It must have something to do with how easy it is to get the first bit of the rotation around on a front flip. You can tuck your head in the way of the rotation so you can't land on your neck very easily. With a backflip though, if you don't commit, you can land on your neck. I know that shouldn't scare me too much, but I know a guy who broke his back doing a backie and is now paralyzed from the waist down.

^^ im going to try fronts some time because im usually like you like i can go run and jump off something and do fronts easy as pie but backflips still make me hesitate. I cant do them on tramps or anything but i somehow find doing them on snow more comforting.

word up bro!!!! its all in your head. after a certain point its strictly mental. thats the illest feeling, you feel like you progressed 5 years in an afternoon when the, fuck the bull shit attitude kicks in an you stomp crazy shit that made you dirty your pants not to long ago. best feeling in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that was sweet, his third was the best by far. I laughed at name of the video though. "first TWIN TIP backflip" haha.. idk.

back flips are so simp. once you try a few, they just take balls when your are first learning

I heard a kid broke his neck recently at my local hill trying a backflip. Be careful and if you want to try them, at least do them into deep powder with a steep landing.

well i never asked everyone to say good job and give me props, its just that NS is such a great place that they do it. I just thought i share my story, i didnt expect this many people to reply.

Thanks guys.

at first i thought this thread would be gay, but that is actually a pretty dope story. congrats man and keep killin it.

nice bro! I remember when I stomped my first one, it was so fun and I was on an adrenaline rush for the rest of the day pretty much. The best ones are the huge floaty ones into powder though, those give me the best feelings in the world.

I remember my first attempt at a back flip, I was like shit just go for it, pow kicker, you'll be fine. I made such a rookie error, just leaned back off the booter. I used to have a habit of trying to start the trick before popping, and then not popping, eventually I was told "pop, then do the trick" but yeh, I landed on my head and kneed myself in the nose, blood concussion, messy. Did it before I did my first 3 though :-)
