/images/flash_video_placeholder.pngSo I tried my first backflip today and ate it pretty badly. Anyone got any tips for bringing it around faster? I can do a standing backflip on the ground and on tramps/ledges. Here's video: I'm planning on headed up to Sugarbush again tomorrow for their final day of the park being open.

I wish I had the balls to try a backy, so props on that. But yours there, looks like you sent it way late. Your rotation looked like it started after you left the jump. Set it and rotate a hair earlier right off the lip and you'll have it man.

Thanks man. Thats what I was thinking also and what my friends said afterward. Just wanted another opinion. Still kinda surprised I sent it.

Props for trying it dude! Maybe try it off a proper park jump with more pop, which will make it easier to set your rotation/more hangtime

You tucked which is what most people get wrong so props for that. I'd say just send it off of a bigger jump and be comfortable with it. That jump is big enough if you really send it hard but I'd recommend taking it to a proper park jump with a nice lip and landing.

Props for trying man! My first backie attempt was this untucked hucked phenomenon where the tails of my skis were touching my helmet and I did this mid-air scorpion bend thing and then landed face first in 3 feet of pow getting stuck for a good 3 minutes.

You need to set it with your head and chest, start the rotation then bring your feet up and tuck if you need to, don't try to throw your feet over your head and keep looking until you spot you landing then open up.

It looked like you didn't tilt your head back to spot the landing which sort of goes with popping earlier.

Backflip is all in the hips. When you get to the lip, POP HARD, and pelvic thrust towards the ski. Look behind you for the landing, stomp, make love to all the babes.

Keep looking back with your head, that will help a ton. You just kind of put your head in between your legs, and you really have to arch your back and spot the landing early

Nice job, I say just go for it again but delay your tuck just a bit longer because it looks like you're jumping up and tucking way to early. So basically just throw yourself back and don't tuck until you really feel that you have the rotation going.

You actually had a great first attempt, cause most people get scared and land on their back or neck or something. Do it again and get a huge pop. Throw your hips forward and look back with your head. Tuck and open up after you spot your landing

you issue is you are looking down. if you look back you cant not get it around. when you take off the lip look up and you will see the landing and swag out

throw your arms back towards your head and push your hips forward all in the same motion and look back and it will come right around

I'm always afraid that I'll pop, and then when I bring my legs in, I'll stop spinning for the moment because of the weight of the skis (heavy-ass afterbangs). Does this happen?

dude props for sending it i mean you went pretty big for your first try. everything was perfect until you seen the ground and it looked like you just stopped. so mayb find a landmark in front of you and keep spinning until you see that. and throw it harder to hope this helped

Drop your head and shoulders. All you did was throw your legs up and tried to tuck. Your body follows your head. Just keep getting back up and keep trying. You just need more practice.

I would wait on the long, stylistic backflip until you actually pull one around. Start your rotation right as you pop off the lip then tuck. All you really need is more rotation.
