Backflip Or Frontflip?

Heyy
I am going to the snow in a few weeks and i am really getting amped up to try either a front flip or a back flip on my chronics. Which one would you say would be easier? and what sort of jump should i do it off. Also could you maybe give me a little tutorial on how to do one of these.

I'd say backs are easier logistically, but mentally fronts are easier, at least for me.

Backs are really easy it's just about commitment:

As you're leaving the lip, lean your head back to start the rotation, after the brief initial blindness, you will be able to see your landing. Once you are in the air and are looking back I normally try to use my core to bring my legs around and under me. from there it's just about putting the landing gears down and riding away.

Ahh thanks man, yeah for me it feels as though front flip would be easier but the lip of the jump would accent the spin of a back flip. Okay well il use your advice,
Thanks buddy

From a thread in Trick Tip cult:

This is my first trick tip, so I apologize if it is bad but hope it works:

For me I tried it on about a 35 foot jump, because I was more scared of under rotating than falling on a bigger jump.

As you are coming up the lip of the jump, before you dip your head under and go blind in the flip, SEE THE KNUCKLE. Throwing it this late will be terrifying your first flip, but it ensures that you are popping before you are throwing. Don't not throw at all though either. Basically, I thought of it as the most brief superman front I could possibly do.

Once you have popped and thrown after seeing the knuckle, dip you head under and look at your skis. I look about 6 inches below the tip at the Atomic logo on my topsheet. This gets rid of the scaryness of going blind because you are focused more on the design of you ski than you swirling surroundings.

The next thing you will see is the landing coming up below you. If you have gotten this far successfully, you will have enough time to spot your landing to adjust how tightly you are balled up so that you land on point.

This worked for me from the very first flip, just be sure to commit with everything you have.

frontflips are easier to throw but scarier to land in my opinion cause you cant see the ground. try both haha. if youre only gonna try one then id say go with backflip cause they are cooler but make sure you lay it out cause if you tuck youll overrotate

Okay well, i am going to try and do the front flip seeing that it is the easiest and then i will move on to the backy if it all goes well. So pumped to get back on the sticks :)

I went with backy first, seemed easier in my mind.

If you go backflip, don't just throw your head back, you'll get upside down and stop. While your head goes back a bit the biggest part is throwing your hips forward and up. That's what really sets the rotation for your whole body. Once you're flat, facing the ground, just bring your legs under and around and you'll come back to vertical. Don't huck it super hard or you'll smash your head on the takeoff.

For a first jump I'd find something poppy as hell, maybe even your average wind lip stepup type thing, and just fully commit.

Okay thanks man for that, ahh by wind lip do mean a little knuckle?, and would you think it would be better to make my own kicker in some pow and try it there?,

if you make you jump if it sugar you are going to have to wait a day to let it set, yeah i just did my first backflip this year first time landed on my stomach, second time clean, if you are going to do,don't think too much about it just do it

the throwing back your head thing is half true. when i do my backies, its pretty much the only thing that i do. HOWEVER, the pop is really important, its what will bring your hips over your head after throwing it back.

Just zip up your man suit and do a back flip. I haven't had anyone I've taught not land the first time. They are very easy.

Im in the same situation as you and I think that I am going to try a frontflip first if I can find a jump that is not to steep, but a backflip would be easier off a steeper jump. Also I can do dub fronts on a tramp and a diving board but not dub backs. I think It all depends on the jump and which one you can throw better

i learned fronties first but backs are quite a bit easiet imo. either way your first time will be scary but after thar youll be fine

i feel like superman ones are easier, fronflips that is. I'm not even sure if a superman backflip is possible. I guess it is.

try a frontflip off a knuckle first, with a steep landing. i remember one of us was trying them one day and then we had a group of about 10 people of varying ability all have a go because its actually a pretty easy trick to huck.

For sure, it took me forever to get the balls to backflip on a snowboard seeing as I can barely land one on a tramp. But we had a fat powder day & I just hucked it till I got em down, now I can do them everywhere. It's all about commitment.

^^^ this HAHAH
big mistake is pussying out and trying it on a jump that's too small. I'd say if you got enough air time to sev a jump you got enough air time to backflip. I dunno about fronts cause I don't do them much. But backs are steezy, just tighten your core and throw your hips hard upwards, don't even need to crank your head back cause this will give you the rotation you need, I guess that's another way to do it. ^^^this or cranked head back, I just find this ^^^ more consistent and ^^^ this is how I learnt them : )
