Backcountry Skiing in Africa

I don't really expect many to know much on this subject, but I'm trying to ski there. It's been a goal of mine to ski on all the continents. I have two left (not including Antarctica) and they are Europe and Africa.

There has to be snow there, that's for sure. I would love to summit a peak and ski down rather than go to a ski area.

Recommendations or advice? Stories?

The Atlas Mountains actually have some pretty good skiing (Morocco).

Didn't do backcountry, but I did go ride in the Atlas in Morocco. Hit and miss snow situation.

Sweet! Thanks for the replies. I'm looking at a Wiki list of tallest mountains in Africa now and trying to compare on Google Earth. Indeed the snow situation seems hit or miss. Luckily a lot of the options appear to be strato volcanos which makes for an easy climb.

A 7 year old climbed Kilimanjaro haha, but I don't know how much snow that mountain actually holds from the pictures.

Those pictures give me hope and a lot of excitement, thanks Mozzy. Especially the 6th picture, wow!! $12 for a lift ticket might be breaking the budget though haha

Marrakech gets a lot of visitors from around the world, the main languages are Arabic and French. English and maybe German also kind of work, but yeah, language barriers are fun and frustrating at the same time. Given the amount of hassle and confusion in Marrakech, I opted for airport to hotel transportation.

I might try to recruit my Lebanese friend for this trip haha. I skied in Lebanon a couple years back and the taxi drivers took me for all my worth and I knew it. There was nothing I could do though since I couldn't speak the language and didn't want to draw too much attention to myself being American.

Crossing my fingers for some good snow!

Cheers to adventuring

I'm going to be heading down this summer but will be at a ski resort not doing BC stuff. I see what I can dig up though. I LOVE hiking and BC stuff so even a small fucking lovely.

Lebanon's pretty cool, eh? I took my mom there a few years ago, reminded me of California with some wicked geography, and awesome food. That stuff makes you feel healthy, the traffic does the exact opposite.
