I need a backcountry pack and was wondering if you guys could recomend one

i would like it to have a place for an avi shovel and something to hold my skis also

dakine heli pro.

i have a line Remote pack and it's pretty bomber.

completely waterproof, mad comfy, and has a TON of space.

it has 3 ski carry systems. they are kind of complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it's fine.

evogear has them and so does backcountry

maybe the house too

you looking to do slackcountry/side country off resorts or multi day hut trips? I have a couple different sizes of the dakine packs and highly recommend them all

It depends on what exactly you are looking for. A Heli Pro will hold a shovel, probe, etc, but itsn't suitable at all for actual backcountry skiing. I use mine for hiking in-bounds, and that is about it. For backcountry skiing I have a 32L BD Anarchist, and I cannot say enough good things about that pack.

So to give you useful input I would need to know whether you are doing NS "backcountry," or backcountry.

I need to know this too, I was about to make a thread but decided to just post in here:

I'm not going to be touring or doing heli-skiing. Just some out of bounds stuff at Baker. I'm already getting a transceiver, probe, shovel, and everything else, and taking the level 1 avvy cert. class so I'm pretty serious about getting into doing more BC type skiing.

I have it narrowed down to 3 packs I think:

Ortovox Free Rider Pack: http://www.backcountry.com/store/ORT0048/Ortovox-Free-Rider-pack-1587cu-in.html

The North Face Chute 22 Pack: http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF2605/The-North-Face-Off-Chute-22-Backpack-1325cu-in.html

Ortovox Ski Plus Pack: http://www.backcountry.com/store/ORT0058/Ortovox-Ski-Plus-Pack.html

I'm not really sure what one to get. I don't think I need a bigger pack though, just something small-medium sized. I don't really want a Dakine pack though. These all look like pretty legit packs. I'm leaning towards the TNF one because it seems like a sick pack and it turns into a chair sort of. What one will protect my back the best out of these 3 packs?

I dunno, to do something different. Tons of kids have Dakine, I want something else, and I'm sure there are better packs out there anyway. If not, then I'd go with a Dakine, but Ortovox and TNF are legit companies. Well some TNF stuff is legit, not the shit that everyone and their brother has though.

i love my dakine heli pro. i've used it for alot of in bounds hiking around snowmass and tahoe and never had any complaints. enough room/compartments to carry your resorvoir, extra layers/goggs/mitts, a snap on shovel holder (never used it though), and it has vertical carrying system which aint bad. totally recommend you guys look into dakine for packs.
