Backcountry jumps

ive never jumped in the backcountry yet but this year ill probably get to. so anybody that has jumped in the backcountry, do you think you started learning more tricks cuz the softer landings make it a little less scary? i mean i know it still hurts but im pretty sure ill be way less scared once i get used to landing in powder.

Landing in the backcountry on blades takes a pro to do. Learn in the terrain park and bring it to the backcountry and then maybe you wont fall everytime. BCREW WHAT.

yeah. its way less intimidating, and the fact that you can make your jump exactly to your liking gives you an added bit of confidence. its fun.

good place to learn to be confident and stick your tricks. here in alaska, it really dosnt matter how fucked up you land that much, as long as your spine isnt like twisted. so much snow in the landing. super fun.

find some stirs to jump down. that would be a cool way to build a jump. like start on stairs going down build a lip on a flat part and then land on more stairs.haha

i know i will be building one, it will be my first taste of actuall powder... goin to snowbird :) 15 - 20th dec. anyone care to ski with me up there? hopefully makig a booter somewhere there

walk up it with their skis on sideways, snowplow down then to pack the jump do a test and instead of hitting it slow down and slide onto the jump works great

BC is the place to hucj for sure, just be sure you have a beacon, and some proper training on its use, and some avalanche safty courses under your belt, and who ever you are with should know there shit as well, be safe so you can huck unsafe things really big with confidence. enjoy man.

just take the time to build a really good jump thats all I can say, we usually build big jumps but they are so sketchy/uneven/fucked you cant even toss a three properly

Some times they use snow cats with a small plow, use them to make the jumps to. But lots of jumps are built the back breaking way.

thanks. i def wanted to take some courses i just didnt know wheere to find them. snow is fun but deadly. alot like girls.

I hit them all the time... ya they are a good place to learn new stuff... but you gotta have a good jump that you feel good on... and you gotta be condifident that you are going to come close to landing it... and not on your head, best of luck

that kid was right, go to AK; snowbird sucks... but for realy be careful fucking around with that shit.... and the in-run is super important, nothing like just trying to survive the in-run before you even get to the lip of your jump.

Just start with a nice mellow location with a semi steep landing and plenty of fresh pow, make the jump and let it set overnight, this is key so you booter doesnt collapse...stomp out the runway really well, and do it on a sunny day

backcountry is way overrated if your not hitting a massive and perfectly built jump, or hitting a big cliff or scetchy line. it should be just as intiminting if not more because the jump will be so big, and you will be starting so high up. otherwise its gay

its so much less intimidating with a steep powder landing than a flat icy terrain park landing. i did my first 3 in the backcountry

lets settle something real quick..

BC is back country not "off trail"

that means far from home!

sled access, heli, hiking or a combo of the three

building a jump in the woods is cool but not necessarily "Bc"

a true BC booter takes days of prep and planning and many people...

are you serious? backcountry = no lift lines, peace and quiet, your own jumps, and most important nobody like you around to ruin the serenity. I guess you must not like the work it takes to get your runs. whatever stay out of the bc it will leave more for the rest of us.

you deffffinitely learn more tricks.....with our jump we had two feet of powder so landing didnt hurt at all and the big thing was our inrun. it was super beat so you had to think about getting to the jump, not actually hitting the jump....so once you got to the jump you just threw the trick and didnt think about it at all

no man come to the san juans in colorado loaded with pow, which is actually building up as we speak

days of prep man? We build massive jumps in like 5 hours, yeah if the snow isn't sticky you have to like chop blocks out of the lays, and it kinda stays in your shovel in a block if its sticky anyway.

alot of people use blocks. just make a block. its kinda like a snowman only bigger and you cant have sex with jumps...i mean you cant do tricks off of snowmen.
