Backcountry First Aid / Survival Kits

Who is packing? and what do you bring?

I have honed my kit over the years, its now all housed in 3.5x5x1.5 pouch. it contains the following;

Survival blanket

snare wire

lighter/matches

fire starter

candy

rope

duct tape

scissors

Chap stick

needle/thread

Pen flare

AAA batteries

Joints

Band aids

Skin Glue

Steri Strips

alcohol/betadine swabs

plain Gauze

anti bacterial impregnated gauze

Occlusive dressing (opsite)

14g needle

NPA (nasal pharyngeal airway)

Meds (T#3's, antacids, naproxen, anti-diarrhea)

tourniquet

Would you bring more? less? why?

Velcro webbing in a roll has saved me major suckages several times

as have zipties

spare binding parts and a quality multi tool/and ore amulti bit driver tool

BINDING PARTS!

I didn't see parachute cord. Tie knots in it, and boom you've got a cornice saw and something to cut out the back side of a block or pit or whatever (for OP), it's just really versatile as a tool, can help build a shelter, could tie you off if you had to attempt a sketchy rescue, and on and on.

New to my kit this year is this little solar cell phone charging device. Never hurts to have a backup cell battery (somewhere warm!! like taped to your body, or in an internal pocket) if you're in an area with good coverage.

This is a great list. The only things I would add are water purifiers (like iodine or auquamuira), a multi tool, and a tarp, to make a shelter with, and extra socks. The tarp takes up a bit of space, but could definitely be a life saver if you need to spend a night in the back country.
