Back to the Basics // Jiberish

With all of these old videos that Jiberish has been putting out, it has been making me feel some type of way. I think we as Newschoolers should uprate this thread to get Jiberish to listen to the idea I have been thinking about. - Jiberish should make a side collection of hoodies called Back to the Basics (or something along the lines of that) and put out hoodies with patterns and the style of when the company Jiberish started up and they focused on skiing and snowboarding wear - For the exception of a couple of people, I think we can say that Jiberish hoodies just aren't the same. In my opinion, I think they have turned into a "Hipster" skate company like the brand Supreme. From 2007 - 09 Jiberish hoodies sell like crazy in the Sell/Trade forums, so if Jiberish was able to create a small collection of hoodies in a type of way back when they focused on skiing and snowboarding, kids and people who are still into wearing the big baggy outerwear would buy these like crazy. And I have no doubt that Jiberish would have a problem selling this collection. Down below are some old videos that Jiberish put out to reminiscent on what Jiberish used to be.

I Wasnt in the ski world back then, but I think you hit the nail on head. I like some of the hoodies they have out but that shit they put out that is suit jacket or whatever is ugly as hell. Also on another note is tom wallisch not on their team anymore? Maybe this is old news but I was looking for his walk in the park edit and I could not find it.

Here you go, but thanks for the input +K

People need to realize that Jiberish is not even close to what it used to be. They have moved on to more high end fashion items which is fine. The new stuff they have been putting out has been targeted towards a different kind of market. there are plenty of companies that are doing similar things that jiberish used to do like pre-2010. You'll never be able to change somebody else's brand according to what you prefer.

Despite this thread being fairly easy to hate on, I have to sort of agree. It's true that NS as a whole generally likes Jiberish's old products more than today's lines and myself included.

However, I don't know what kind of numbers Jiberish puts out within the company nowadays and if this would be a profitable idea for them or not.

Id be hyped on something like this. Yeah Jiberish has definitely moved past making those type of clothes and marketing those clothes as Jiberish. Now with more high end and tailored apparel they have moved past the look people once knew Jiberish as, to a new look. To remarket an old style of clothing on a large scale would be just a step backwards for Jiberish.

Like the OP said though. This would't consume Jiberish's lineup at all, and in fact would be a very small portion. Overall still giving them the image they have worked to achieve, without giving the appearance of regressing. People new to Jiberish/Not skiers, would see it as reminiscing on a time that helped Jiberish become where it is today.

I used to get so excited for the Jiberish drops from 08-11 when the designs were more so catered to the ski industry. Then the excitement just started to leave as the line grew bigger and pieces became less exclusive and more simple. To bring back the exclusivity and offer a type of hoodie/crew design that was/is the unique Jiberish flavor that made the company what it is today would be so awesome.

honestly their old hoodies fit so fucking terribly, the waist ribbing was wayy to tight. I do have to somewhat agree on the patterns though, whatever year line came out during Network were the sickest hoodies patterns to date.

One thing I think is that in 2007, they had a stellar team of up and comers. Those guys are all now to big for jiberish to pay. I do like there new direction they are heading. I feel that, at least in Denver, its a style that is very popular right now. Look at companies like Steadbrook and Ruckus Apparel out of Denver as well

I think this is great idea, and it would be even better if Jiberish (if they ever do this) would let us choose what hoodies we would want. For example, they make a poll in which you can vote any hoodie from previous collections and the hoodies with most votes would be brought back.

And since they started in 2005, the collection with hoodies from previous collections could be their 10 year anniversary collection.

You'd be suprised haha, they had a crazy big team and they still have an insane team.

Also it's not so "Hipster" as you say. They create and sell the items they want to wear, and as times change so does the style of each person. That in itself is admirable. Some of you on NS have talked about them selling out, but is it really selling out if you're staying true to yourself?

Don't get me wrong haha I do like some of the older stuff, and I think the high point for me was the year the a la mode came out, that hoodie was my favorite, and I wish I had never sold mine :/ I'd pay good money to have it again. Change is inevitable though, and I think it's a good thing, I mean I've had quite a few items from them, and the new sweaters may not be as big and loud as before, but the quality and fit is damn nice.

Anyways, many of these things will be addressed soon, just sit tight!

Edit* Plus, if they brought back old stuff, would that still be the same old "exclusive and unique" brand that you loved? I say a limited line with the old flair influencing it would be beyond sick, but I guess we'll all have to wait and see what happens and what the guys at Jiberish do end up coming up with.

Aka back when jiberish only had a small summer and winter line. They still make the oversized clothing for skiers

you're not thinking old enough. the old hoodies had barely any elastic in the waistband. an XL used to come down to mid thigh. 2x is a couple inches above my knee and i'm 5'10. the material wasn't as thick, but the original shit was way sicker than anything they've ever put out

Styles change man, they still make sick stuff to shred in. I'm sure they want some cohesion to their style so an alternate line of "sick shred gear" wouldn't really fit or make sense for them as a brand today.

Eventually, they will do some kind of throwback. They have grown so much and evolved that it's easy to see the progression. There's no way they won't do some kind of ode their beginning.

I grew up in park skiing alongside these jiberish edits back in 06' 07' and on. The aesthetic and style back then was defined by what jiberish was putting out and i foamed at the mouth to get the flashy tall hoodies that i saw the pros riding in those edits. This aesthetic was mirrored in different realms of action sports coming out of the baggy trends in snowboarding and skating. I have a lot of nostalgia for the steezy skittle days almost a decade behind us but skiing has come a long way since then. Jiberish has matured in the same way that the community as a whole has, i dont want them to be putting out the same gear and aesthetics as they did when i was 15. Todays jiberish is a reflection of the skiing communities take on contemporary fashion and the journey skiing has made since there were a handful of us at any one park. Im pretty baked but i think were past the days of the 5xl cotton hoodie. Jiberish has always intended to be trendsetting streetwear above all else and continuing to churn out the same old stuff would have had us forget about them a while ago.

Jiberish doesn't make clothes to sell a shitload of, and they don't care about making it rich with it. when are you idiots going to realize this....

I'm going to be the dissenting opinion here. Fuck the old Jiberish. I thought it was sick back in the day too, but today I think it would look garish and out of place on the slopes. The world has moved on to more subdued designs (see pic related), and I am totally okay with that.

Yeah I'm gonna agree with you. It was sick back in the day but times have changed. I'm not gonna knock anybody for liking their old stuff or rocking it on the hill but the reason it is so special is because it was made in that era. The era of baggy loud designs, when Wallisch was just rising up to the top nd that's partially what makes that style special. I don't feel like remaking a line would be the same at all. Style has progressed and it's okay if you aren't a fan of it, but it is what it is. Reminiscing about sweatshirts isn't going to bring back the a skittle thug era, no matter how much you want it to. It was a good time for skiing but I think leaving it be is better than trying to bring it back and ruining it for what it was.

New or old, I think they should start making more basic hoodies. Like the script logo and big LoHi logo. Enough with all this hipster floral print shit. Like the Lohi Beast and whatever that blacklist one is with like black hoodie and tie die looking crown.

and also, this is a completly different topic that has been deeply argues before but, seriously?! 104$ for a fucking plain black hoodie with a logo? You could buy a sweatshop workers freedom for that.

Will own

These are my favorite pieces going through the years. I think this thread needs more pictures, but regardless, I'm fine with jiberish maturing with the sport, however the old stuff was so fucking dope. I'd love to see a throw back in the next few years.

The quality of the blacklist hoodie is insane. That is by far the nicest hoodie I own, and the price of cotton has gone up. Most companies have dropped the quality to keep low prices but jiberish has actually upped the quality. 104 might sound like a lot, but that hoodie is worth it

You can talk about how the style of skiing has changed, and how the skittle era is over. And thats all fine and good, and I would agree. However, you cannot tell me that this is for skiing. Skiing may have changed, but Jiberish has moved away from the skiing market as well. Kind of sad to see, as that was their main source of revenue, and fan base for a long time, and still is a large part of their brand. But hey, it's not my company.

Thanks for all the input, whether you liked it or not! Hopefully Jiberish made do as some of you said and create a couple throwback anniversary hoodies, but +++K to all

As for my personal favorite Jiberish pieces:

Why can't they make a peacoat? Not everything they make has to be skiing related for them to be a part of this community. You chose not to post the 20 or so hoodies they made this year that they STILL make in 4xl for the people who are still hanging on to that aesthetic. What company that that is not in skiing makes 4XL stuff?

Maybe some people like to have a peacoat because you can't wear a ski jacket everywhere. At least they are trying to give you guys some sense of style. And they do have a riding peacoat that comes out next year that is waterproof from the looks of that video they posted a few months back. And I can't wait until I see all the kidos hate on it prior to seeing Delorme rocking it and then those same kids asking their parents for $700 so they can get one.

Quoting for all time greatness. A rerun of this and I would be so in.

Also, skiing in a peacoat, waterproof or not, is fucking retarded. We laugh at gapers wearing jeans and skiing, to me wearing one of those is on that level. They're cool for street wear, but never for skiing.

Jiberish take themselves way too seriously now.

This is a great idea. I don't think Jiberish should change completely though because I kind of like their street wear but I would like to buy a good old 4xl classic hoodie.

Jiberish is far from taking themselves serious, what's wrong with bringing that street look to the hill?

Just look at max hill for example

Idunno man.... if skiing continues to follow in the footsteps of snowboarding, we'll be seeing jean print snowpants coming back soon, and I for one do not want that. I thought it was dumb at first as well, but then the more I thought about it... it'd be sweet to have a coat that I can wear right off the hill and into a fancy club. I say let them start new trends and refine this new style they're going for and branch off from the well beaten path, progression's a good thing for sure..

They've always taken their brand seriously. What, should they take pictures of cats or goofy shit and slap their logo on it to be like every other action sports brand? I'm glad they approach stuff the way they do.

And being murdered out in some of those new jackets in that video looked pretty fucking dope to me. Guarantee you start seeing other brands copy it in the next 2 years too.
