ive had 2 different ones last year and my first day of skiing is tomorow. im soo excited to get back out there but advice is really take it easy and dont fuck with your back i have to sit straight up in class all the time now and it hurts when i slouch. do PT

bump, sorry I can't give any advice but I hope you get it. Back injuries suck, at least you're cleared for this year.

Fractured two vertebrates summer 2009 on the Whistler glacier. Could barely walk, hit rehab hard during the remainder of the summer and fall. Skied winter 2009/2010 and never progressed so hard in my life before over the course of that winter. obviously my back would hurt after a long day of skiing, but I would make my best of effort to stretch and stay active. Skied this summer on the glacier again, it almost didn't bother me at all. You basically get to a point if you recover properly where you heal to about 90-95%. You will never be 100%, ask anyone who has suffered a spinal injury, but you can bring it back to 95% and that shouldn't hold you back to much skiing and being active. Best advice is do yoga, stretch, and keep your back strong.

I would agree with what has been said... make sure you strengthen your back by doing lots of streches... just go on youtube and you will find loads of back strengthening exercises (I use them because i have a weak back).... and remember to commit to everything you do, be confident in your own ability to get back up there and do what you do.

I compression fractured my T11 and L1 last february snowmobiling.. and it feels about 90% now in december. Strengthening your back is huge, but ALSO core! I can't emphasize this enough, keeping your core strong will prevent further back injuries and take some of the load from your spine. Your physiotherapist should've given you a bunch of exercises, if not ask at your gym.

Also, listen to your body, if it hurts, its trying to tell you its had enough. Call it quits go down, spin and stretch so you can play another day.

back injuries suck. i've never had a super serious one but i messed up a disc two seasons ago and it took 2 months of physio and no activity before it stopped hurting. then that spring i put it out again while running track, so make sure you're COMPLETELY healed before you ski

ohh that sucks! last year I had my spine crooked from rugby and its not fun! you have trouble breathing, i went to the kyropractor and then after couple week i started to work the back muscle! take care!
