Babar the elepahnt

Babar the Elephant is a popular French children's fictional character who first appeared in L'Histoire du Babar by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931 and enjoyed immediate success. English language versions entitled The Story of Babar, appeared in 1933 in Britain and the USA. The story is based on a tale de Brunhoff's wife, Cecile, had invented for their children. It tells of a young elephant called Babar who leaves the jungle, visits a big city, and returns to bring the benefits of civilization to his fellow elephants.

Jean de Brunhoff published six more stories before his early death in 1937 at the age of 37. His son Laurent de Brunhoff was also a talented writer and illustrator and he carried on the series from 1946 with Babar et Ce Coquin d'Arthur and many more.

most def babar. he was the sweetest cartoon to come out of the 20th century. we used to watch the cartoons in french class in elementary school. if it were any other elephant, it would have sucked, but babar made grade 4 french pretty kickass.

its settled then its babar

now we can move on to sharing your favorite experiences/books/movies etc with babar

im gonna have to say my favorite is his search for father christmas....a true classic

I used to watch that when I was little, there was babar, cornelious, and a monkey that served Ice cream.

i had an enormous babar mural on my wall untill i was like 15 and finally got the energy to paint over it

so did I when I was a little kid. There was a pretty cool animated movie that I always used to watch when Babar goes to war with some evil rhino guy. Babar also had a pretty cool monkey friend. Babar was a prince or king right?
