man this is cool shit. Makes me miss living in Collingwood.

Gorilla_Wallace or whatever his name is said he got to test it out a bit! It looks pretty rad. When I get back to Buffalo I'm definitely gonna head up there and try it out!

Signed up for Sunday!! Looking forward to waxing my skis and checking it out ;)

Just beta tested. AMA...

It's pretty freaking sweet. They were still unsure whether they were going to allow poles because it might puncture the surface, but you need em for a speed boost. Easy fix: put those rubber finger tacks, you know, the kind you use to flip through lots of paper, on the bottom of the poles.

It's a little more difficult to control speed, and your skis have to be REALLY waxed up to slide down. The trans were a lot of fun, and the foam pit is cool. Definitely a must have to practice air awareness. So stoked for these guys to realise their vision

hahaha thats sweet! I'm stoked that this is happening so close(well semi close) to home. it's gonna be dope!

Had a blast! So nice to be back on my skis in July! Feels a little different, it's harder to carve but got used to it. They try to keep it wet to keep the speed up and I had fresh wax on my skis which helped a lot. Used toko blue and it held up really good. I will be going back for sure.

Totally I'm there! Takes an hour from my place. Just say when. Or even come knock on my door on your way by! Buffalo right?

Hell yeah!! And yup I'm from the buffalo area!

I got to ride it yesterday and it was surprisingly good!! I was the only skier at the session which was a bummer but still had a blast. It takes a bit to get use to the material. They have a few nice jib features. The tramps are really good, intact the whole foam pit area and tramps where way better than I expected. The only problem I had was the dry slope was pretty slow but I guess it's the beta and their just testing everything out. Overall I had a blast and would defiantly go back!

Did they have a super tramp? Please have a super tramp..

Well tbh bigger than I thought! The dry slope has 3 different lines with 2/3 features in each. The tramp section is pretty big with a lot to do in there. They are building this launch system that is apparently going to launch u into a foam pit and it goes up to 35mph. Facility overall is decent in size.

Indoor completely?

Pics?

I feel you man, Being the only skier and having to figure it out on your own was not the easiest thing for me either. If you get them to spray your skis before you go down it helps a lot with the speed.

That's sick

How were the jobs they had to ride? I've seen pics and the ones they chose seemed a bit stupid to be honest, the the short boxes and those boxes with the rails mounted on top, but maybe they were better to ride? Do they have any regular rails?

That's the one downfall I forgot to mention! They have like 3 thin boxes, 2 small down rails but when I went there was no ride on and just there for borders to hop on, and 2 rails mounted on top of boxes. Like don't get me wrong there still fun to ride but I wish they just had some normal rails that everyone can hit

They said they're building more features. Also I asked them if they would set up a ride on for me and they did it up. :)

Really down to hit this up on Sat/Sun. Was there any mention as to how much a season/multi pass would cost?

No bro but I was thinking the exact same thing

They said when they open they will offer 5 and 10 session cards. I'm not sure how much.

Any way we can get this on the front page of NS? These guys are awesome and trying to start a great thing for us.

Spread the stoke :)

I'm really stoked on this

Even if you're just planning on going the odd time, the early adopter membership is an awesome deal for 65 bucks

Hello Newschoolers!

We are here to address your questions & comments

Mr. Bishop > our facility is 20,000 sq ft. pretty big and yes completely indoors, lots of pics and such on our Instagram too! @axisfreestyle

Simsyb > Sorry bud, we wish more skiers came out too but right now it's more of a "whoever wants to come, just sign up" kinda thing. So we aren't really being selective of who is allowed to come try or not. Feel free to bring your ski buddies next time!

Hawleywood can attest to that, she came for 3 weekends in a row and it was only on the 3rd weekend that we had the Agenda Freeski crew come by.

Mingg$ > We don't have a "super tramp" but we have a 10x10 which can still send you 20 feet into the air!

original$ > Right now Beta sessions are $20 for 2 hours, so $10/hr.

We're doing our best to keep it in that range but of course we have to make sure we can pay rent to keep the lights on.

We are selling Early Bird discount passes, check outhttp://igg.me/at/axisfreestyle for the details

dbchili > Jibs & features wise, what we had envisioned them to look like didn't exactly come out as planned from the builder but none the less it's a start and we have LOTS more we want to offer.

RAILS RAILS RAILS, we heard you!

Smaller Ride-ons, we agree with you on those too.

We're no pros, we could use some smaller features too.

All in the upgrade plan friends =)

__

We are still going to run Beta sessions on Friday nights and weekends.

All the sign up info is on our website axisfreestyle.com!

Feel free to shoot us a message anytime =)

I went a couple weeks ago, it was a ton of fun even though there weren't that many features but it is the beta and I was skiing in July so I can't complain. To be honest I thought it would get really hot in there but it wasn't that bad despite the constant hiking. Falling on the carpet didn't hurt for me, I went in t shirt and shorts.

Tramps and foam pits were super awesome, and the facility is run by a great bunch of guys.

Was there last week, kinda hot after you get into it but it's good they have big fans you can stand in front of. The material is really weird as you cant really edge into features and have to hit it flat-base so most urban-on features are a bit harder. Wish I stayed a bit longer and asked them to setup a longer rail haha.

Glad you could make it out! For sure we're working on the ventilation system but it's starting to cool down for fall so it will be MUCH nicer soon but putting A/C in our warehouse would be extremely pricey.

Front what we from the sessions, it is possible to edge still, but less.

Some skis that are twin tip / reverse camber style tend to ride better.

Next time we will make sure to set up a longer rail(s) for you, just let us know =)

Thanks for sharing the stoke!

yeah i went last weekend, and to be honest i had a mixed experience

on the one hand, the guys are super nice, and the facility is actually really impressive

on the other hand, i genuine feel like because all the owners snowboard, what skiers want in a facility like that, specifically in the rails, has been left out. What skiers and snowboarders want in the rails is pretty different, and the rails they have are very snowboard oriented, they're short and with low lips, and the down rails were setup so you landed flat which i didn't understand because it makes it impossible to spin out. Skiers want long mellow features, especially for practicing on because we can balance much better than boarders on long features, and it allows us to more time on the rails to practice switchups etc.

I was also very surprised by how high all the rails were off the ground. For a place that promotes itself as beginner friendly, none of the rails were less than probably 2 feet off the ground which means greater consequence when you fall. there was only 1 regular box setup, and 60% of people were riding that 1 feature with the other 3 less used. So obviously they need more low/simple features for people to practice on.

Now don't get me wrong, the facility is crazy nice, and i appreciate what these guys have done, but they're neglecting half their audience by only addressing features for snowboarders (no long boxes/rails), and that was definitely reflected in the people visitng (i was the only skier out of 20 people), plus it doesn't feel like they're actually addressed easy/low consequence features for beginners
