I was look to ask for some headphones for xmas and I didn't know much about headphoens so I decided I'll ask NS. I like some of skull candy's headphones but I want to know what are some other companies that sell good ones. I probably won't be using them for skiing so they don't have to be super durable.

Skullcandies are absolutely dreadful. They look cool but sound like garbage. Check out AVG's, or Grado Labs. JVC's and Sonys are OK if you absolutely have to shop at walmart.

That about sums it up.

Get Skullcandy's if you want a durable headphone with a great warranty where sound quality isn't an issue. Like on the hill, sound quality hardly matters, which is why I like my skullcandy's.

For everyday listening and for excellent sound quality, go with AVG or Grado, both really good companies. I hear some of the Sony's are alright too, not sure about the JVC's, haven't looked into them at all really.

If you feel like spending $360 or $180 on ebay Sony MDR-SA3000. Frequency is 8 to 100,000

Grado makes some great headphones. Most are open air, which you probably don't want. Sony also makes some good ones, but you are going to be spending at least $90 for good Sony's. AKG makes siiick headphones. I have a pair of AKG 81 DJ's that I got for like $75 and they are amazing. I use them everyday, definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made. The bass is wicked on the AKG's especially if you use them with a computer, amp, or CD player with legit CD's. With an IPOD most headphones will sound like garbage anyway. Sennheiser also makes some legit headphones. Stay with either US manufactured headphones or German manufactured headphones as a general rule of thumb.

If you are even considering skullcandy...just no, they suck huge dick.

How much are you planning on spending on headphones anyway and where do you plan on using them?

also might wanna check out http://www.head-fi.org

Bose suck a lot. Way overpriced. they are good at advertising, and act like they make a high end product, and they definitely don't. DO NOT GET BOSE!!

grados have the best sound quality for the money no matter what pair you get, however they're open air so they dont cancel out any ambient noise.

get the sony MDR-V150's, i have them and theyre tite, better than skullcandy. And they're cheap, so youll be able to ask fer other stuff to get.

i hate it when people post stuff like this. its like if a kid says "i need a new car, which is a good one?" and people say "porsche makes a decent car, you should check them out, all there stuff is high quality"

well no shit! if everyone had endless amounts of money, they'd just go buy the best, not make threads asking for advice.

You had me at the part when you said "I hate when people post stuff like this". what should have followed is:

"Do you even own Bose? and have you tried other headphones made by better manufacturers,"

Then you'd say "Bose actually suck in reality, go buy some decent cans".

Or if you were gonna bring money into it you should have said that for the price of Bose you can get WAAAAY better headphones.

Skullcandy and Bose both suck in terms of quality.

The point is that they cover every frequency that any person/mutant on this planet can hear. I would recommend a pair of Sony MDR-V300's. They have a rich quality sound, they cancel most noise even though they are not noise canceling (perfect for on the slopes). They are plastic but durable. I have crashed hard on these suckers and they hold up like a charm. They are considered studio quality headphones, have a 10 foot cord or so which allows nice placement of the mp3 player and easy maneuvering. They run about 50 bucks new as of 2 years ago. To describe them in one word, Quality.

I recommend Sennheiser. Enthusiastically. Best sound quality I've ever experienced, they make some great earbuds too (which I prefer to big clunky cans)

they changed the name to K518 DJ I think. They look almost identical to mine anyway. and I'm sure you could find K81 DJ's online anyway.

yea i found them on ebay. Are theyr really that good? They aren't thatt aestheically pleasing, and i want both.

When I use the 81' DJ's in an ipod they are good,

When I use them with CD player with legit (not burned) CD's it is very good, and the bass is amazing.

When I use them with a computer they are...epic, for the price. The bass is really good, feels like I have a fat sub on my head. The mids and highs are also very good.

While they do not have active noise cancellation, you can't hear shit when they are on your head. I got mine for like $65 and it was the best $65 I've ever spent. I bought them in June and I've already put hundreds of hours on them no joke.

check out head-fi.org for headphone info. These people know headphones, like newschoolers knows skiing. I asked them what to get and they said 81 DJ's so I copped a pair and have never regretted it.

The music I listen to is mostly rap and techno with pounding bass) and then Linkin Park and they really good headphones.
