Avy Danger Inbounds

Another slide with a death in a resort today. Another reminder that avy and deep snow danger is real in the resort. Wearing your beacon on deep days is smart and skiing pow with your friends is cool. It's avalanche mitigation not elimination. People die every year in the resort, don't let it be you or your friends.

Shout out to the ski patrollers who put themselves on the line for our enjoyment and make it safe 99% of the time. Really tough start to the season with all these slides and burials. Seems like more than usual but could be par for the course as storms and snow packs change with changing climate.

Ski safe and thoughts out to the families of those who didn't make it at Silver & Squaw.

thoughts with the skier and his family, I heard one of the two who got buried survived and one did not.

I dont dive into the rumor mill ususlly but from what I was told the other one survived but is in very bad shape. Life altering shit. Sucks. In bounds avys are a real danger but fucking scary and surprising.

We were just talking sbout beacons in boumds today. I got fresh tracks on qual fsce at homewood yesterday and was thinking sbout the risk if inbounds avys.

Also even tree wells etc. Might not save your life but people will find you in less than a week.

RIP. Not a good start to a busy af weekend. Stay safe out there!

treewells too like borty said above. A skier died about 2 weeks ago at Alta due to a treewell. The west is getting absolutely pounded with snow and taking unfortunate casualties along with it. Reading news like this at your truck at the end of the day is a real sobering reminder that you should always be thankful for making it back to the truck at the end of the day in one piece.

Thank you to each and every ski patrol staff member on NS and across the globe thats putting in tons of work right now out there. Pretty wild season so far.

ive started skiing with a beacon on pow days in bounds i would rather play it safe. last year witnessed a slide that changed my mind on skiing with a beacon all the time.

shout out to patrollers for keeping it safe out there.

Sport is too popular for its own good especially when it snows.

Skiing deep/steep powder isn’t that challenging either so everyone wants to do it.

I live close to Silver mountain, which is one of the resorts that has had inbounds avy deaths this year, and a week or so back they confirmed that a third person had been found dead in the slide. real somber mood around north idaho at the moment. sounds like the area that slide was inbounds but not lift accessed, and one group of people hiking/traversing set off something that took out another group. be safe out there people, not just for yourself but for your family/ friends too.
