Alrighty, looking to get one, wanna know what everyone thinks is important for one, or what good ones are.

For right now, get the Tracker or the Barryvox (I prefer the Barryvox)

the Peips DPS is awesome, and there is 2 new beacons coming out this year, the Mammut Pulse and the Ortvox S1 that will revolutionize multiple burials.

 
The DTS tracker 2 is the one i use....easyest in the world to use. Distance marker, and direction marker. It is one of the most expensive ones out there, but its soo worth it. Avalung is the shit too, but im too poor to get one right now. The avalung adds 30 extra mins to your survival time.
 
I like my barryvox, about half the size of the tracker. The new stuff coming out is going to be awesome, but hold out until it is more widely accepted.
 
any beacon can be good. The most important thing is that you know how to use it correctly. Personally I have the Barryvox and I love it. It is pretty easy to use.
 
i like my ortovox m2 transceiver but its kinda high-end. ortovox make great entry level ones too. to be honest, they're all fine, the ESSENTIAL thing is having the knowledge to use it properly. take a course, practice loads, and remember that without a probe and shovel, forget it unless you plan on using your goggle lens to dig your buddy out!
 
beacons are for pussys, that shit is so gay. how about you just dont get stuck in an avalanche and you wont need one.
 
I heard about the avalung and it sounds pretty cool, 30 mins is def a life saver compared to when you only have like 10-15.

As for a beacon; they all work, just make sure that YOU know how to work your own. The best beacon in the world sucks if you dont know how to use it.

That said, i like the Tracker and the Pieps DSP
 
that is if you can get the tube in your mouth, and you are not one of the 1/3 of avalanche victims killed by trauma.

basically....avoiding avalanches is the one sure way to survive them.

Beacons are really only there for when you fuck up.
