Avoiding Boot Bang?

When I land front sommersaults I sometimes get excruciating pain in my shins - even when only slightly off centre landing.

Does anyone have any tips to avoid this because it puts me off?

Am I doing something wrong with my boots

Bawb, I can trace this wanting for abuse back to your childhood i see it all the time. See growing up you had two dads, whereas everyone else you knew had a dad and a mom. This put you in the 'outsider' catagory right off the bat. Some of your earliet memories were bad sounds coming from your parents bedroom. The crack of leather whips and chains echoed through the hall of your mobile home. One day when you braved the nerve to open the door to this room of horror. You opend the door and saw both of you your dads with their mustaches where they didn't belong. Since that moment in your life you have craved abuse, someone that could beat those memories out of your little head. - Dr Von ReefSideRider

maybe loosen the top buckle a notch and the power strap a little. Taping is also a good idea to do. If you have microadjust buckles, loosen them a few turns if you can. Make sure to see if taping does the trick first, then loosen up a tad so the t toungue of the boot isnt too tight

haveing the boot to loose is probably the problem. cause that gives your shin the ablity to move around too much. that or try instaprint eliminators. the slpin in the from of your boot.

You didn't say whether you landed backseat or frontseat.

Something to consider: try using the powerstrap around the liner, under the shell. Sounds a little strange but very effective at limiting unnecessary movement in the cuff. This is the principle behind Power Boosters straps.

well...I got extremely bad boot bang from a wreck last year...to the point i thought i had a hairline fracture in my lower leg, I found that the only way i could ski is when i wore my bmx shingaurds under my boots, It actually worked like a charm. i assumer soccor gaurds would work too. If your bang is real bad...this will seriously help because it takes the pressure that that one point in your shin gets hit with and distributes it over your whole shin.

yeah its prob cuz your boots were too tight, thats sucks dude that it happeened so early in the season. i recomend getting something with a real soft flex for jumping in the park and tighten down a lot.

I like to ski

i think ive gottn used to boot bang, nice little bruise every ski season on both shins... its cause the boots are too tight and/or not enough padding stuff from socks or from the boot, i think

Shin splints are caused by landing backseat and streching the sin muscles on the front of your leg. Brusing your shin is when you push it into an immovable object. The flex of your boot depends on the force you exert on it. If you are small and light a soft boot for me(6'2' 200 lbs) may be too stiff for you. I personally ski some of the stiffest boots I can find (Lange comp 120, banshee 110, used to ski nordica world cup and technica ICON carbon with the stiffest shell) If your boots are too big for you meaning your feet and leg move in the boot, this will cause shin bang. And you may not think it is true, but do not wear thick socks... they make it worse, wear the thinnest sock possible with no foot cushioning....

over the last 4 years I have eliminated shin bang by using boots that fit my foot, thin socks, but once and a while I feel the strech on my shin if I land horribly backseat.

i don't kn mabey losen boot of not so much speed on your summersolt or just loose some wieght so the momentum willn't be that great

John- God forgives,

MOUNTANS DON'T

I know the cure!!!

Dont land backseat. This gives you shin splintz. If you are having trouble with your shins, ice them alot, and do lots of stretches before and after skiing, and all the time u arent busy, stretch them too. Also land fakie-only for a day or two, it should get better. Tighten your boots, and happy landing!

dont do front flips

THE SPRINKLER: get butt naked and then do a 1260 while taking a piss, i expect this trick to win many comps this coming season.

i'd have to agree with jodi, shin bang has no cure...i've tried everything for like 2 years now to prevent/get rid of it, nothing works, i got new boots this year (1080s) and the guy said that they may help...but nothing really cures it. when it gets reallly bad, just take a few days off it, thats what i do.

stiffer boots do the trick for me.... softer boots but alot of pressure on the shin.... i had the salomon performa 4.0 crappy boot but never got shin bang in my life! the boot has a bit higher of a cut

what are you doin sumersaults for anyway??

Being Irish, I guess I should resent the Notre Dame nickname 'The Fighting Irish.' After all, how long do you think nicknames like 'The Bargaining Jews' or 'The Murdering Italians' would last? Only the Ironic Irish could be so naively honset. I get the feeling that Notre Dame came real close to naming itself 'The Fuckin Drunken, Thick-Skulled, Brawling, Short-Dicked Irish'

a sweet way to fix shin bang is to go to a really good ski shop. If they know anything about shin bang it is because chances are your boot is BROKEN in too much...every season its good to get new boots...cuz lets face it..we ski hard and the boots pack out after a while...Also check out custom footbeds...i used to get shinbang but now the footbed cradles and grabs my foot...so when i do occasionally land in the backseat my foot doesnt slide foward and put preasure and stretch my shins....lata playas
