There was an Avelanche today just outside of fortress mountain. Two snowboarder died. None had avalanche training or the proper equipment to survive an avelanche. when will people learn that avelanches do happen. Everyone take a moment of their time in respect to the riders that have just been lost.

My friend was there that day...but the guy were kind of stupid...it was ice underneath cause it was warm the day before plus a bunch of fresh snow ontop....thats avalanche potential at its finest....

one of the boys who died did have avalnache training, did talk to ski patrol before going back there and was assured it was safe, and had boarded ther frequently. i would know, he was my godbrother. the conditions were prime, there wasn't ice of anything. it was a fluke accident. you really shouldn't talk about shit you know nothing about.
 
yah...that sucks. Sorry to hear about your godbrother. I find it odd that a ski patroller would 'assure' safe backcountry. Even patrollers i'm friends with won't give anything other then a vague 'should be good', or the odd 'gonna be warm today...'. The only time most will give you anything useful is if it's something like 'yah, great backcountry. I'll put the coroner on call..'. Anyways..they aren't infaliable either way (fernie is more then proof of that, supposed to be the best avy programs in canada and we had 2 inbounds slides this year..one that partially buried 4 people)

Regardless, avy conditions are at best an educated guess ....shit happens, it sucks. sorry again for your loss.
 
Sorry for your loss, but haven't there been some wacky conditions lately? Definetely a lot of warm/freeze cycles last week and new snow on top of a weak layer. It rained at Fortress as well last week.
 
Yea but that area was blow to sh*t with xplosives that year and the year the slide took place it was considered outta bounds. dumb bitch.
