Average Ability of Snowboarders

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but in the last 3-4 years the average snowboarder got worse and worse. When I used to board like 5 years ago and before that, most people that did it were pretty good, and hit jumps. Now that so many people jumped on the bandwagon, most people you see suck and there's always people on the verge of running into someone. Maybe it's just where I ski at...

I dont know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
 
yea 90% of the snowboarders i see suck, and are just a bunch of posers. There is always a few really good ones that i see though, that can do like cab 7's 9's ect. cant make fun of those ones.

i used to snowboard i can 360s but i started skiing lately because of my back, the wrecks dont hurt my back as much because u mostly fall side to side on skis

do you know the difference between cab and sw? cab is not a universal term for going opposite; it means switch frontside. sw is for straight airs and sw backside. that's one difference between skiing and snowboarding=spinning frontside looks totally different than backside. unfortunatley for skiing spinning left or right looks the same.

 
obviously style is something different all together when spinning, i am speaking strickly on the symetry of the skiing body...

i just never see average snowboarders, atleast in the park, leik they either are reeley good, or suck hard

when a snowboarder is really good and smooth, it looks ridiculously sick, but when i see a random snowboarder coming into a rail, i cant help btu assume he's going to 5050 it and fall off halfway

I ould say your average skiier is pretty shitty too. More tourist and people on ski ruin jumps in the park by just kinda jumping of the sides, as oppsed to snoboarders. I think thats bad, most crumby snowboarders at least try the jump. And my brother rides a board, and on the hill he runs ith 75-85% of skiers.

^Logchucker nailed it: there are just as many shitty skiers clogging up the hill as there are shitty snowboarders.

Granted, not many people are skiing because it's the 'cool' thing to do, but MAY change soon. It should be interesting to see how ns skiers react to it if skiing become 'cool' again.

thats cause snowboarders only have the park , skier who arent good at park skiing can go do moguls or race or something else but every single snowboarder spends almost his entire day in the park

this difference is though, shitty skiers are nice, theyre not posers. Most kids strap on a snowboard and say look waht a sick nasty punk i am and go be a dick all over the mountain, as opposed to asian tourists who get in teh way, and breath all the white mans air, but at least have manners

actualy, now that I think of it, snowblading is kinda in the situation that freeskiing was 4-5 years ago. Back then, the snowboarders had no respect for you. It was 'gay' to be a skier. That's what snowblading is today. So snowblading is actualy more 'core' than skiing today.

But, I'd still never be caught dead snowblading.

whoa, i completely disagree. The snowboarders in the park here at tremblant destroy shit. They are always so smooth and have mad style, it almost makes me want to become a snowboarder. But not really.

snowboardings cool, but a lot of kids just do it cuz its the cool thing to do. i know a lot of poser kids at my mountain that stopped skiing (they sucked ne way) for snowboarding, just so they could look cool. its really stupid

haha down here in so cal 99.9% of the people are snowboarders. they all think theyre badass and that theyre the shit. like there is one skiier for every 500 snowboarders. they sit in the middle of the run after they eat shit and they see a skiier and yell BACKWARDS?! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the way i see it is that basicly all snowboards will do fine in a park situation, but not all skis will do fine riding switch and so on. therefore more people with run of the mill boards can go and do more things in the park and someguy with run of the mill carve skis.

There are soo many snowboarders at my local hill. Most of them only 50-50 on rails and do 180s the easy way. Rarely do they boardslide. They usually build tiny jumps in the middle of the hill and sit behind it while one will occasionaly hit it. Some boarders are sweet, but most of them just suck.

 
^^^skiing has survived and is awesome, snowblading won't make it far because it truely is stupid. skiing requires talent amd snowblading requires goofy snowpants and a gay butthole

most skiers i see in my hill suck shit! so does many boarders...like theres a gang of 5 skiers that ski in 'train' all the time.. all they do is to go right after each other and pretend that theyre core and all cool u know... I seriously hate them!

i dont mind snowboarders too much. unless they suck, but think they're good and get in my way. at the hill i ski at most there are boarders in the park who are absolutly horrible, but think they can handle the jumps because they are snowboarders. it sucks. they fall all the time and beat up most of the jumps in the park.

 
what pisses me off is people who drop 1400 bucks on ski shit and not even try to learn anything. ITS KILLING THE SPORT POSERS!

Although it may sadden you to see posers ski through the park and not doing anything, their fat wallets are helping the industry grow more than ruining your day. Plus, not everyone has the oppurtunity or talent to rip like some do, but it can get annoying sometimes.

You want to see bad snowboarders? Come to my mountain. In the history of skiing here I have only seen 3 good snowboarders. This means they where doing 5's and spins onto the rails. Reguarly, 80% of boarders here can only hit the smallest jumps and strait air, and TRY to 50-50 everything from the flat rail to the box. The other 20% are ok meaning they hit the bigger jump (only 30ft. mind you) but strait air it. Oh and they boardslide the rails, boxes and can 50-50 part of the rainbow rail.

what i hate is snowboarders come into the park sit there and talk shit and brag how good they are and how skiings gay. then they just ride thru it not hittin one rail or table or pipe. it just pisses me off.

 
what ever man its exactly the same as skiing its just that skiing is still progressing where as snowboarding is at its prime.. i expect that we will see taht in a couple of years

Snowboarding is the reason that freestyle/freeride skiing is around. You guys need to respect your roots. If it wasn't for snowboarding, you wouldn't be around. I've never snowboarded in my life...so I am not biased at all...but I at least appreciate the reason I never switched over!

 
^ Skiing has been around for decades before snowboarding. Like-wise has twintips. Twins just have never caught on, or been an actual part of skiing, until snowboarding came along. Maybe it's you who needs to check out your roots.

lots of snowboarders at my mountain suck, but almost everyone on twins kills it, espeacially the kids that are 5 years younger than me, theyre amzing

the average snowboarder doesn't suck at snowbaoarding per se, they carve and stuff just fine i feel, at jumps its a different story, it has gotten worse, but the average skiier is a jerk and big time dumbass on the slopes i feel... but over all, snowboarding is sweet as heck, check the halfpipe this year at x and shaun white especially..

also, alot of skiiers don't have any style skiing, and snowboarders do: i would rather watch a snwoboarder carve and butter then a skiier...

but yes, overall, i think they have gone down, just because so many kids go to it and stink it up for the few that are any good...

^ most of them can't actually ski either... we had a few good ones where i ski. One of them (forum77) switched to skiing... he's pro at that too

i snowboard and ive entered in a few comps im nothing great though considering im only 13 and i broke my collarbone last year but yeah most snowboarders suck

 
yeh most boarders do suck but it also depends where u r located.where i live in south ontario, it all boarders. the only goos skiers around are us instructors.

Man i have decent equitment and im not the best skier but im no poser, iv been skiing before i was walking. I just chose steel all my nice gear from my poser friends who never use there nice shit
