I just picked up an avalung and was wondering if anyone else on NS is using one or has experience with them, usefull tips, etc.anything you know about them, drop it here! ;)
 
I've been thinking about getting one of these, is there a difference between the normal ones and the back back integrated ones?
 
both avalungs function the same,and have the same purpose. some people like to argue that the separate one is more reliable.
I don't like the avalung built in, because I use my BD backpack for other stuff besides skiing

 
I've been using one for a few years now. Just make sure it's out and within easy reach of your mouth whenever you're skiing or skinning where things could slide and you're good to go. Hopefully I'll never have to use it, but it's certainly nice to have.
 
Avalung is a device that helps you breathe for longer if you are ever buried, its supposed to help extend your window of survival up to 50 minutes under the snow.
 
Makes you invincible while in an avvy. It has a torch that melts snow and lets you dig out fast, plus it has a pez dispencer, water, sandwich machine, beacon, and a backpack.
 
I can personally vouch for the pez dispenser saving my life; I would have starved to death had I not had one. Thanks Avalung!
 
yea i figured that out; do you ski with it in your mouth or just in front of your mouth, ready to deploy?
^^both manners are mentioned by the manual...
 
Yeah so i like having it with the back pack cause then you wont get tangled up in a bunch of straps and its just simpler. as for use yeah just keep it near your mouth and if you are skiing something really sketchy put it in your mouth. Or it makes you sound like darth vader when you talk into it which is sick too!
