Avalanche question

are skiers more suceptible to avalanches than snowboarders or vice versa? like the physics of it i mean, like 1 plank vs 2. not behaviour

i feel like it doesnt matter at all but i think a snowboarder would be a tini tiny bit more susceptible if at all because they would put more force down into the layers because having skis would spread your weight out a little bit more. but i have no idea i live in the midwest.

I think that skiers are more likely to cause an avy. A snowboard is wider than a ski therefore does not cut as deep into the snow, therefore may not cause a fracture that a skinnier ski cutting deeper into the snowpack would. But if there is a difference I dont think its that great.

With skiers and snowboarders I don't think there is much of a difference. If something is gonna slide it's gonna slide.

But yeah, snowmobilers are more likely. The ability to just rip straight up a hill without thinking about the dangers of it makes you more likely.

You don't know, you just go, because it's so easy.

definitely an interesting question, one that i cant answer, but obviously it doesnt matter in regard to avalanche safety (im not saying that you were going to take less care in the bc even if skiing did trigger less avies)

My guess would be that there would be a slight difference, but not enough to be significant. The way you ride will make much more of a difference than what you ride.

Regardless, if you're considering factors like that you shouldn't even be on that slope in the first place.
