anyone have any autistic kids in their school? at my school there are two autistic kids, one can type 31 words a minute with his toes and the other is like a super good chemist, can tell you anything about any of the elements, and knows how to make shitloads of bombs and stuff

yeah my little cousin is autistic. they are absolutely brilliant in some areas, and lack basic skills and instincts in others. its really sad, actually.

we have an autistic kid. he knows the birthdays of every person in the school. its pretty cool. the only symptom he has is like rocking back and forth, thats it. from what we can see anyway

Read the book 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time'. It's so good, and is told from an autistic teenager's point of view. I really reccomend reading it.

 
^ I was just about to say that, my niece is autistic, but she has no savant qualities, its really sad because it is very difficult for her to function in places she is not extremely comfortable in.

theres a 5 year old in my town with autism, and hes an AMAZING pianist. He was on the Today Show or something about half a year ago.

i know a boy who has autism and he asks the craziest questions like what would happen if you lit someone's jacket on fire while they were wearing it, and what do police officers really do when they're not saving banks from being robbed. watch 'rainman', it is a great movie

i think it is so sad when people are autistic because they have no social perception in terms of people's emotions. we have an autistic girl at our school, and simply put, she cannot read people at all. you could be super pissed off at her and spouting obscenities and everything, and she'd just have no idea. i really feel bad for her 'cause it's not her fault she can't tell.

Many autistic kids arent 'brilliant', or anything like that. People dont even seem to know what autism is, basically its a disease that makes them unable to really decipher and deal with sensations, like in the movie rainman when he screamed whenever an alarm went off. Often has very little to do with intelligence, that just makes for a good movie.

like people that have amazingly good abilities in math, like being able to multiply 5 digit numbers in under a minute, there are blind people that can play piano concertos after hearing them only once, rain man type of things

yeah my cousin's autistic. He's brilliant in math and physics and areas like that, but his social skills are really undeveloped. He doesn't really know how to relate to or interact with people, although he's been getting a lot better lately. Right now he's in university and living in a kind of group home with a bunch of people with the same condition.

Pay attention though sometimes to what they actually say. A lot make up their own rules in physics and math, and nothing make sense. Then again theres a bunch that can do it correctly.

both my parents are special ed teachers and i'll help out in their classes once in a while. its crazy some of the things autistic kids can do. one guy can't remember people's names, he knows them by their birthdates. he'll just walk up to me and say 'september 16 1987' and then walk away

you can also have very minor autism along with some savant abilities. that condition has its own name, which currently slips my mind.

yea this kid at my shcool that has it is fuckin super autistic... o yea and then i know another kid james that has downs and autism but hes pretty handicapped i feel sorry for him... its like he cant speak outside his body

anyone read that link from ski-hobo, this kid is like the most important person in the world right now, research wise, he is the only autistic person who can explain how he is so good at numbers and shit, he sees numbers as shapes and colors and textures etc.. and he sees them both in his mind and then the just mix together and make the answer, like another shape, or color etc..

My cousin has downsyndrom and he's a pretty good skiier. He was in A child special olympics sorta thing and I think he won. He's 11.
