Australian resorts

So i'm getting hooked up with an internship in hobart starting january 2011. I was searching the net and saw ben lomond, has anybody been there and how is it, seems small and ridiculously expensive, any thoughts?
and i was also wondering about what the best resort is on the mainland. thredbo or perisher blue? and would it be similar price to go to new zealand? i appreciate all the input thanks

For anything more than a couple of days NZ will be cheaper (and probably better). Depending on what you want to ride some mainland resorts are pretty good. Perisher probably has the best, or at least the most park. But yeh, you don't really get much for your money but we get by

NZ probs has better/more snow, bigger towns (perisher doesn't even really have a town) but perisher is also a lot bigger than any NZ resort, I think thredbo is as well

depends on how many days u wanna get skiing. once you add up flights etc new zealand will get expensive. and there is not really accomadation on the hills, u gotta get expensive buses from queenstown or wanaka.
As for perisher stay at the station in jindy. its actually quite cheap as far as hotels go. Before i had contacts in jindy i stayed there and it was 650 which included everything including lift 5.5 day lift pass. that was in peak season. otherwise there is snowy mountain backpackers.
Perisher is sometimes realy annoying as all teh weekend warriors go there and u get the stereotypical boarders that really dont want skiers in the park as a result alot of the top guys and pros ride at thredbo

i've done 3 seaons at perisher and not once, ever has a "stereotypical" snowboarder ever not "wanted" me in the park. thats bullshit.

all rage is directed towards a) fucked head gapers from sydney that sit in the knuckles of front valley jumps and b) ski patrol for being the biggest pieces of shit fun police in the world.

Ive spent ALOT of time down there it has happened to me a few times (yes they were almost certainly weekend warriors and i am not a knuckle gaper or patrol. I just reckon if yur gunna go to ski mainly park, thredbo has the better vibe.

i have to agree with chris0. most of the snowboarders..not all...are generally conceited and arrogant, and the ski patrol are very uptight cause they really only have front valley to regulate, unless there's an injury elsewhere on the mountain.
