Audi Tiptronic.

its decent, but it pales in comparasin to a true stick.

I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

i've heard they are pretty good new, but if its used, and has a alot of miles on it, i think you would be better off driving a moped.

with a true stick you can dump the clutch for mad tire ripping fun!!!

I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

ya youll miss out on that too, and idk if u can stall a tiptronic or not

tiptronics are clutchless(well they have no manually controlled clutch) so no i believe

I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

for a tiptron, at least in the 05' A4, i think it works pretty well. it doens't automically shift up when you approach red line, it will let you rev until the engine cuts power, which is nice. Throttle response is really good, and the S-mode in automatic, i'm not sure if 98's have them, is the bomb. It tightens up the suspension and makes the engine rev way higher before it shifts. Burns a shit load of hight test gas though.

Overall i think A4's kick ass, sliding them around now in the winter is fun too.

"Do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?"

It's not bad but it's kind of like a standard for girls. Don't get me wrong it's a pretty fun car to drive I just don't like TT transmissions.

We pay our debt sometimes.

Yeah I figured it's not the best thing in the world. I'm definitely going with stick for sure, but was just wondering.

How about the A4 in general? More specifically the 2.8, anyone have one? Like it? I'm thinking about getting a '97 or '98.

Looks like rain to me.

the A4 isnt too bad, and the 2.8 is good and well manered for winter driving. audis are biatch to stop though (mostly cause you get too comfy driving faster than you should) and if it needs fixing its not gonna be cheap overall... cause its an audi ya know. mmm and whats the price range?

if you plan any mods the 1.8T is the far better engine

I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

yea the 1.8 is lighter and the turbo is strong so there isnt much lag but stock its still pretty weak overall, a lil tuning goes a long way with it.

intake exhaust and a chip will have that thing flying

I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

Damn you Capurnicus, now I want to go trade my car in today for 2000+ A4 or even A6. Those audis look very nice, I'm wondering why I haven't looked in to them a long time ago.

-People say marijuana ruins your life, I just say I take the scenic route-

i hear that it can shift faster that human can with a stick because of somthing to do with 2 cluches......so yea its good and fast. i dont think its worst that stick just different

a4s are glorious. rally the shit out of pow days and leave all the suckers in theyre f150s and minivans spinning... but high miles = lots of pricey repairs.

most autos will have better shifts than 99.9% of humans can do in the same model

I'll drive it untill the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels!

my 01 passat has tip(only transmission you can get with all wheel drive then) ya its broke, it doesnt work and i dont even want to bother to try to fix it cuz ittll b expensive as all hell, older audis have problems with there computers, shit always goes wrong, thats y i didnt get one.

Most autos can shift faster than a human can. But then you don't have control over the power the engine is putting out, you're always guessing when it's going to shift. Not to mention that 90% of all automatics are 4 speeds = more gas.........

Auto is great in huge things where you don't need that kind of control. Like a school bus. Otherwise, autos are for pussies and grandmas.

My dad has an 99 a4 wagon and I find the tiptronic to be useless, might as well put it in automatic. He has the 2.8 L too and its wayyy slow, I don't like driving it, but its a good car for my slow paced dad.

Before i got my audi a6 i test drove a few a4's the older a4's aren't really powerful enough in automatic, i drove a 98 tiptronic and it just isnt powerful dude, if you go with an a6 the tiptronic is def a good find but i suggest the 5spd undoubtedly in the a4

yea i have the 1.8T engine in my '04 jetta, with the tiptronic (wanted to get a 6-speed stick, weren't any left in any lot in the state, ordering period was way over for at least 6 months so i said fuck it), and it's been workin great, and i'd def. recommend the 1.8T, much lighter and the turbo is pretty nice, no lag, easy to mod, all around very satisfied with it

What about tiptronic with a shift kit? Do they have them for that?

My friend just put a shift kit in his '91 Ranger with 4.0L V6 and he continues to spin the tires while shifting into 2nd, and that's on his 30" mud tires. Shifts instantly, which is nice cause most autos are so damn slow when it comes to shifting.

Another thing with tiptronic... you probably can't shift down a couple gears at a time right? Like, you can't go into a corner like with a standard, take off the clutch, brake hard, take it down a couple gears and then step on it out of the corner, can you?

i can drop mine down from 5th to 2nd real quick, just slap it back 3 times in a row and it's there in less than a sec... i'm sure you can go all the way down too, i usually don't feel the need to drop it down to 1st

Your average auto doesn't even have a main clutch (it has a bunch that act on different parts of the tranny), so they're always going to be faster. It's a completely different mechanism.

The other day I was sitting shotgun in my friend's car coming back from the grocery store and I put it in tip and shifted for her all the way back to my apartment without her noticing... it was funny.

I can see why some people would want an automatic, but you've gotta be pretty lame to go for the tiptronics over the clutch if you want to shift. They're just a gimmick.

tiptronic is wack no question the DSG system volswagen/audi is putting out in there new cars is the tits though (as far as a/semi automatic transmision goes) but older a4s are really well priced right now it wouldnt be to dumb to nab one up, the homie that said get an S4 thats not a bad idea if you want a car to drive into the ground but those fucking things go down like a G in value everyday. Not to many problem in an a4 just check your timming belt status and if you get a turbo let the car run for a few minutes in the drive way before you turn it off, thats how EVERYONE houses there cars. schpeace keep it in the family ragardless * EURO FLAVA *

audi a4's are the dopeshizzle. i wanted one so terribly but i just didnt have the funds. i have a 5 speed vw golf though, and a 5 speed is really fun. i have driven an 03 1.8t a4 and it just is no comparison so having a clutch, but thats what i think.

-chris

tiptronic is slow and worthless, but if you're stuck with an auto it does help a bit, at least you can be active with your engine instead of doing nothing.

the DSG is a bit better with tiptronics because it actually uses a real clutch between engine and transmission... no torque converter.

na, the tip tronic works.. it all good, not a load of crap, but i would pay like heaps more for it or anythin.

the tiptronic isnt great . real drivers will never touch one . i got a 1999 s3 270BHP , it fucking goes. but as far as tiptronic goes on the newer audis they work well but get a proper manual car instead.

Dont go to England...E V E R
