ATTN: Public jib line up for JPI3 revealed

Hi everyone,

So I've been pushing snow around today in my snowcat so you guys/gals can jib tomorrow. Now don't get the wrong idea, yes I've pushing snow in a snowcat, but is October so put two and two together. We are putting out two lines for tomorrow.

This what I have in mind for right now which could change some by tomorrow:

Line 1 will be an option of a 20ft down box or 20ft down rail followed by an up/down box.

Line 2 will be another option of a 20ft down box or 20ft down rail followed by a mini stall wall and lift tower tube set up hitching post style.

if it snows again tonight(its forecasted 1-3") I've got a crew coming in early AM to plow the parking lot for more snow...if that happens we will put out several more rails and quite possibly the full size wallride(but not set up full size..more like burried half way).

not too bad for only $1, to hit some jibs in early October !

later skaters

Eric

oh...and it's a whopping $1 for a ticket. We have to sell a ticket for liability reasons.

www.jibassicpark.com for all the important details...click on JPI for the dealieO.

Way to go overboard Eric! Give this man some snow and a cat and look what happens. This is going to be soo great. Guess I better get to work early today. So much for the mini wallride I expected. hahaha

yeah, try like every skier that was there.  way too much hate towards skiers, even when they were throwing down harder than the boarders.

heard. thanks. But...I don't think he means any harm, just having fun with you guys. Sorry if he pissed you guys off. If it is any consolation he would have really ragged on Canadians if there were any.

I hope y'all do know Boreal cares about our skiing community, if not, I would not have tried so hard to get Liberty in there again.

THanks for coming out. I am glad it's over, yet can't wait till JPI.4 Peace.

should get people that actually no about the ski world to judge or who ski. could have gotten iberg and PEP to easily judge. looked like the name was pulled from a hat

It was judged by a skier (and a damn good skier at that) who has been on park staff for the last 3 years.

And no I could not easily get Iberg or Pep to judge..thats not why they came out. I invited them out as VIPs to present their movie with no other stings attached as a sign of respect for their work on the film and for their impact on the sport.

Is it possible for anyone on newschoolers not to hate? Makes me feel good about the thousands of dollars invested to put skiing into the event as equals to snowboarding...thanks

Eric

in a judged sport, people always disagree afterwards.  the park staff guy sounds legit and a lot of stuft got thrown by everyone, i'm sure it was hard to judge.  sweet setup, sweet public session, thanks.

BUT, like other people mentioned: just realize that despite your thousands of dollars, it's hard for skiers to

feel like equals and realize all that investment when an announcer who doesn't know anything about skiing bags on the sport throughout most of the competition.  it might be easy to assume that the judging was equally ignorant (sounds like it wasn't though).

but yeah just things to consider to make it even better and really have an event as equals next year.

mad props to cosco... his style stood out which is why he deserved to win. he didn't think he deserved it and gave 100s out to all his friends who killed it. one modest mother fucker.

I am super stoked on the event and all your efforts, so don't think there is tons of hate everywhere. It's that hate usually stands out more than praise.

On another note it's totally neccessary you haveing skiing and at this point in time it's nearly suicide not to. I mean just look at the numbers. There were more skiers than boarders in the public areana and it seemed to me the skiers overall where chargeing much harder in the jam and comprised the biggest group after it was over celebrating and mingling. This is what the success of an event like JPI is all about and a large portion of that success can be atrributed to the skiers.

Here's the deal guys. Snowboarders were chastised for soooo long because they didn't conform to what skiers were doing. After a while they just said fuck all these assholes - and brought a more youghful and free-spirited lifestyle adapted from surfing and skateboarding. All the current ideas between snowboarding and skiing are based on old generalizations and misconceptions. Those assholes still represent skiing to snowboarders. Can you blame snowboarders for hating what they see? We loathe those people too. Changing this perception takes a lot of time and people who are willing to withstand adversity - just like snowboarders did.

Getting skiing into this event was a BITCH! No one wanted to pony up the cash till some small independent company threw down the loot. That money went right back to the sport. It didn't come from the people who make waaaay more than Liberty and don't put anything back into it. I personally picked skiers I thought would represent us in the best light beside snowboarding. Everyone had a killer time! Huge smiles, hi-fives and amazing talent. That's what everyone saw that night - and that's how all those people view skiing. 3,500 people were shown skiing, and its athletes, are impressive and our sport is legitimate. Judging is subjective. If you want things to be done different, make the right moves so you can judge the event w/ the credibility of the guys doing it Saturday night. If you want a better announcer, go out and show people how cool your sport really is. You help us get more money for your sport by being a positive ambassador. Or you can just chill and enjoy what everyone else who actually works in this industry is doing for every person on this site. So who are you really pissed at? Both Eric and Slaughter are snowboarders - funny how they try so hard to put skiing out there. I'll say they tried a hell of a lot harder than 98 percent of the 'companies w/ money' in our own sport.

This is the best NS rant I've ever had! I feel better.

i think the event organizers here are getting a little too heated about perceived slights.

to be clear: everyone had a fucking blast!  awesome event!  thanks!  we're stoked that skiing was in it and that the public jibs were out and everyone just killed it and had fun and repped skiing and that was sick!  and we really really appreciate all the effort and organization that went into it, especially from folks like eric and slaughter and liberty etc.

and don't forget, we held up our end too... we hyped the shit out of the event and hyped the shit out of boreal, the skiers threw down and everyone had a great time.  i'm sure a lot of food and beer was sold, not to mention a shit ton of season passes!  the stoke goes both ways and i'm sure boreal got a great return on the investment of this comp, thanks in no small part to the skiers!

so yeah, great job!  but that doesn't mean we can't offer suggestions, right?  part of boreal's huge success the last couple years seems to have been thanks to the feedback loop you get from the local skiers.  that IS how we hold up our end, help you guys keep your core image and keep boreal hyped.

so, like you were saying, 3,500 people got shown a great side of skiing and definitely respect the sport and think it's legit!  cool!  we're just respectfully suggesting that next year you hire an announcer that shares that mindset also.  it's kind of an important consideration that will help keep the crowd and athletes stoked and will definitely make the event EVEN BETTER than it ALREADY is!  i don't feel like it's an unfair suggestion.

EXTACTLY Bret........ Everyone is super stoked on Eric and Slaughter. We just want to offer a few suggestions. You guys know we heart you in a shred type way and we all respect the hard work you put into everything.

by all means, sugestions are welcome. I spent the majority of today on the phone talking with the competitors and sponsors asking how they liked the event and what the would like to see. So now I pose the question to y'all: What would you like to see added/changed to the event next year? (anything new other than judging and commentating). What can I add to the venue to make it more exciting? What can we change to keep the crowd interested? Be as outlandish as you want, big ideas creat big things.

The reason I am on NS all the time is to learn what you guys/gals think about what we are doing. And on NS, I know everyone will be brutally honest. Keep the comments and suggestions rolling in, like y'all said, that is the only way I am going to make this into the greatest event the universe has ever seen is to fix the small problems that everyone points out.

Peace.

I would like to see a different setup. I think it has been the same for the past 2 years.. with the addition of the mini-bus. I know it is early and PRE-season, but i think with that much $$$ on the line, having 3 of the 4 options a "box feature" is kinda weak. Give the competitors more RAILS and make them really earn the cash! The down flat down would have been way sicker if it was a rail!

skiers are making strides. Liberty was mentioned on Snowboard-mag and they even posted a pic of a skier on the site. We will have the gap bridged before long.

haha those photos were cool. too bad the skier pic was by default cause he happened to be sliding the box the same time the boarder was sliding the rail. how come no coverage on newschoolers, freeskier, powder etc?

EastCoast11 - Freeskier and Powder both displayed an unwillingness to

support Boreal, despite more than ten calls and three press release to

general contacts and editors. NS.com writer had to cancel at the last

minute.

In other news:

Skiers are not 'bridging the gap.' And

your deceivingly implying you're doing anything to help 'bridge that

gap. Furthermore, your genuine lack of interest and borderline

opposition to skiing's success is apparent by the simple idea in your

head there is a 'gap' to be bridged. Skiing is not snowboarding and no

one in this sport wants it to be. There is not gap to close. Skiing has its own identity. It would

seem you should have an idea of that for as much time as you spend on a SKIING

website. Your unseen personal ideas for skiing's well-being are not conducive

to its successful growth and are not welcome here.

Your

mere presence on this site, which I am truly dedicated to and have

helped grow since shortly after its INCEPTION, disgusts me. You reap

the benefits of feedback from the members of this forum to attract more money for your organization from this 'demographic.'

This is not a demographic, it's a community with a purpose. This is a

place to make skiing better and progress it, not detract and suck from

it. Your presence here is unwelcome by just ME - for now.

I didn't see

you bridging the gap when I asked you about skiing in the JPI four

months ago and you responded by saying none of the ski companies would

give up the loot. That conversation took place nearly two months shy of

JPI3. You called reps, but none of the reps I know ever had a

conversation of the sort with you. And when I asked how many ski

companies you directly contacted, your answer was, "none." That doesn't

sound like someone committed to bettering the sport. Snowboard Magazine

and Fuel TV were already locked in as sponsors, along w/ other

snowboard sponsors like Burton, Rome and 32. They don't sign on w/out a lot of concentrated effort. Those are some of the biggest names in snowboarding. Great efforts were also

simultaneously made to secure better publicity for a 'snowboard-only'

outerwear company for the park staff. Having a ski/snowboard outerwear

sponsor would show your commitment to skiing in the only area your

organization can - park riders.

You made absolutely no effort to meet and acknowledge the talents and sacrifices of two of skiing's finest (Pep Fujas and Eric Iberg), even though your organization even supplemented travel for one of them. I had them both on camera, along w/ snowboarders as well. You knowingly signed a contract with Fuel TV to cover the entire event as the main video sponsor. Even at my bequest, you laughed at their stance of openly 'not supporting skiing.' Further at my bequest, you didn't even suggest the production staff recommend including skiing. I also watched you make a deal to get a skier in your competition for four pair of skis. You agreed to do it and then I called you on it cause you made the rider cap. Just minutes before that conversation you were saying how you didn't want him in there. I faced BOTH those people and came clean about what I said - one you were there for. That guy who offered the skis didn't make it into the comp and you let four more snowboarders compete the night of the competition. Fact is, you knew, or should know, the more skiers who compete, the more chance for skiiing to get exposure. You favored snowboarding again. You stepped in to ensure there was snowboard-endemic media coverage, never even asking what endemic ski outlets were covering . You can say the ski-endemic media media wouldn't cover, but you never even made an effort.

Bottom line is, small companies w/ everything to lose like Liberty are moving skiing forward. Deceivingly convincing them to drop $3,000 in your event that you can't even guarantee more than press releases to San Francisco Parenting Magazine, Pride Magazine and online bloggers is just downright wrong. Worse off, you know it. Labeling JPI3 as the Liberty Skis JPI3 would make it worth it. And you know Liberty deserves it. Worse than that, it was suggested to you and you used as a means solve an inter-personal issue in your office at Liberty's expense. Real nice work man. Way to look out for skiing.

Well Ride Time, I think it's about time you leave. This is not a place for your "viral marketing." You have no idea what this COMMUNITY is about. You also have no right hiding behind your alias to fake who you are. It's clear you've been looking for acceptance for most of your life. Find it somewhere else. There is no WE here - just you trying to be someone you're not.
