which lense should i get for my Canon EOS Elan II, i want a new one, and its gotta be a fisheye. im highly considering the Sigma 15mm and the Sigma 18mm, but i'd like to keep the distorted edges without any vinyetting. any other options that you would recccomend, and are these 2 sigmas good choices???

dont mess around just drop the cash and get the canon 15mm f/1.8(or is it 2.8) sigma isnt bad but the auto focus isnt as good.

You should take a look at this lens instead of either of those:

Canon 10mm-22mm f3.5

It's not one of their pro lenses, but it's designed for the digital SLR cameras so that it's roughly equivalent to the fisheye. If you put the 15mm fisheye on a digital SLR, it acts like a 20mm on a 35mm film SLR.

Canon doesn't share it's tech info with other lens makers, so Sigma has to go out and buy a bunch of Canon cameras and lenses and try to reverse engineer them by taking them apart. Then Sigma (or any other 3rd party) will try to use as many common parts that they use on other lenses to save money. End result is that they come up with a cheaper version that isn't as good as the Canon lens which is engineered to only work on Canon cameras.

Buy the Canon lens.

First off....DON'T put a Canon EF-S type lens on a film 35mm camera...the EF-S lens mount is intended for specific canon digital cameras and would actually damage the shutter on your Elan. That being said.....i have the Canon fisheye and love it....but if you don't truly need fisheye look at the 17-40 F4.....I rock that wayyyyyyyy more than the fisheye.

Yeah and also Andrius, the 10-22mm is in no way equivalent to the fisheye...it is a distortion corrected lens while the fisheye gives you barrel distortion. The focal lengths may be similar, but that's about it chief.

Ooops! My bad. I read the first post a little too quick and didn't catch that it was an elan.

Forget my other comments... buy the cannon fisheye.

As far as the distortion effect goes, I guess ski shooters are still okay with that, but everyone else is looking for wide without the distortion. Have you seen the shots from the 14mm corrected lens? So dope. Still makes the air look huge but without the obvious fisheye effect.

i have the canon 15mm 2.8 and love it. you can check out some pics from it on my profile. i was checking out the nikon 14mm lens earlier today at this nikon demo and its super pimp. almost 180 degree field of view with barely a hint of distortion at the edges. its goes for around $1400 tho

Actually, unless you modify them, the EF-S lenses have a little rubber stop that covers the protruding rear of the lens. It acually won't even mount up to a normal film camera unless you modify it. Which is a bad idea. The only camera that the cut EF-S lenses work on is the 10D.

Have you looked at the 16mm Zenitar lens? Ebay it, I know somebody in the photo cult got one awhile ago and loved it. They make one with the Canon mount already attached, but it's a full manual lens.

Actually, the EF-S type lens work on more than the 10d, they also work on the Digital Rebels, and 20d, and I'm also gonna assume the 20d replacement set to be announced at PMA in Feb.

that nikon lense is incredible !!!! I'd love to have it but it's not cheap :(

Canon doesn't really have a real fisheye (for my 20d) yet but they'll release one soon!

I also have a Canon 20D, and was wondering if they were going to release an EF-S fisheye. But I got to thinking, and I'm just going to buy the Canon 15mm fisheye because once you upgrade to a full-frame sensor, you are going to need the non EF-S lens anyways. I guess it depends on how long you're planning on waiting until prices on full-frame Canon's go down, but I wouldn't waste the money on any of the EF-S series.
