To whom it may concern:Alright, my name is Graham and Im a senior in high school in New Mexico. My school has this thing at the end of the year (Late April - Early May) called Senior Projects. I know a few other schools have things like this (mostly private schools and what not) but the idea is that you have about a month to go do something of your choosing (with school discretion). Mostly this consists of internships, but there are seminars you can partake in as well as a few other things. Im incredibly interested in doing something not only fun but really worthwhile with this once in a lifetime opportunity. This is where I need anyone to help me. Im looking for a project/internship that will allow me to work at/near a mountain that is in the ski industry. To give you an idea, currently Im trying to see if something will work with A-Basin ski patrol, but id like to have options in case this falls through.Im really looking for anything that will help me really experience the ski industry; do you work park crew and want someone to be your bitch digger for the end of the season, does your mountain allow people to follow and help out on the ski patrol? Really there's so many ideas and I'm just trying to have options. Im incredibly serious too; Im willing to take classes or courses to keep from being a burden to the mountain and team (Avy 1, I was first aid certified or what not but could plan on retaking/doing more courses). And also, heres another incentive. Im not allowed to be paid at all.Ill probably update this with more info but Id appreciate any and all help (regardless if you work on the mountain, are a super bro at the mountain, or just know of some sweet idea). Thanks for taking the time to read all this and to get in contact either post here, private message me, or email me.
My email is schmity.1337(at)gmail.com or if youd like to talk on the phone or what not to know Im serious just send me a private message.
Thank you very muchGraham

Well, I can't personally help you out here, but you could definitely go to monster.com and look it up, and then apply for a couple different things, explaining your situation and such. You might want to consider applying to be a waiter or something at a heli-ski lodge, then you get in skiing on staff days, and you're in the mountains. You could also send out emails/pms to a few smaller companies around and see if they need help, they would probably love to have you and not having to pay you? They probably couldn't turn you down. Give it a shot, but make sure you have a good resume, including anything skiing related that you've done.

Oh yeah thanks for pointing that out. I have a Letter of Intent and a resume for any interested parties. And yeah that was their concern at A-Basin as well (they are used to having people shadow for a few days or week). Im hoping liability can be discussed (i.e. I am willing to take responsibility for my actions) though because it'd be a shame if I were to be completely passed by because of liability. But I know its an issue and needs to be looked at.

some of the production companies offer internships for spring shoots during the time you stated. I wouldn't bank on any of those though. Look for info starting in february if you're interested in that.

Yeah thanks for the advice man, I really appreciate it, and while I know this may not be optimal conditions (and I know I'll face some shortcomings in planning this), but I think its just as plausible as many of projects people have done (worked with NOLS, interned at museum's in Europe, etc). Im mainly asking online because living in New Mexico there is no one here that is open around that time, I realize I will have to travel out of state, but really hoping for something to work out.

Yeah as awesome as that would be (and if it played out right I would gladly work incredibly hard to work it out) I doubt theyd be interested in a high school student, let alone I dont think it would amass to the amount of time Im supposed to be doing the project. Thanks though man.

through personal experience if you go to a terrain park manager and tell them you would love to do anything they need you to do, for free, and you can show you are committed, 99% of the time you won't be rejected.

This is where your guy's help would be greatly appreciated. Living in NM i know of a few places that are open in the time frame needed but I need you guys to help get me in contact with park managers or anything that could help. So if you know of a park manager (or anything else that is helpful) help me out! And I dont know if I told anyone this but if someone helps me find something that works out great Im willing to buy you some stuff to show my appreciation!

The thing at A-Basin isnt looking too hot right now with it being somewhat hard to actually get back in contact with the guys, but I have sent out a few more LOI, still have 1 or 2 left to do, sorry didnt have as much time during break as I thought I would (sorry Josh M if you are reading this, I know its taking forever but I will have it within a week)

Find a mountain you like an a chill terrain park manager an tell him you'll be his bitch if he gives you a couch to sleep on. A mountain might even give you free lift tickets if you are helpin' out for free like that. Tear it up!

Good Luck!

Tell you what Schmitty, I'll help you. Shoot me an email over at: Roggem85@gmail.com. I'll find you something cool.
There's only one catch. If I help you land a cool internship with someone, you have to make your yearbook quote, "I live my life a quarter mile at a time" - Vin Diesel, Fast and the Furious
I look forward to your email.

Where in NM are you from? I'm just curious, I grew up in Santa Fe and I think I've only seen two other NSers from NM since I joined.

Good luck man. You might also want to consider just taking a year off before college and working at a mountain though. That's what I did and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
