Now that Smith has ceased to create ski poles, which means no more competition z-bend poles, what do you use for big mountain skiing? Scott makes some, those world cup ones, but they are pretty racerish, i.e. too much bend. What else is there?

how do poles matter?? unless your skiing like stuff that seth and other big mountain guys do....a regular ski pole gets the job done for anything i do. glades and park. and bumps

and steeps.

Not necessarily, for big mountain I like my poles long and crooked, you can lean out on your turns more and save yourself too, at least with smiths. For park shorter straight poles are preferable, at least for me. They stay out of the way, they're there only when you need them.

they had straight ones, and bent ones similar to the z-bends, and they are oval instead of round, and from what I heard are more durable than the z-bends. oh, I am talking about the salomon poles

 
you need bent poles to ski powder now? I've just been using regular cheap ass poles and they'ce worked fine.

Though i'd love to get life link poles, they screw together to make an 8ft probe...short, but still cool.

 
HI I have a pole bendy thing at my house erich so just buy some and bring them to me and oh about 3 hours later bendy poles

if you're really serious i'd get one of those rad life link telescoping poles. those things are nice. you can extend them for when you're touring and want extra push. you can fully extend them and then collaborate the two for a workable avalanche probe. they're sweet. several companies make em like that too. buy now!

 
i have the telescoping poles, they are sweet, onlything is they were expensive so i never want to break them in the park, i only use them wheni am doing big mtn. they are really light and i love them.

i usally get a pair of straight poles and then they get crooked cuz i end up body checkin on them or crashing and then breaking.

I have some aluminium scott cheap ass ones. They are bent from walking uphill in deep snow. I gotta get me some composite ones.

I have those sportmart poles with the tiny ass basket thingys. They work great for the midwest but when I got to whistler they sunk 3ft evertime I tried to pole in powder. Other than that poles are poles to me.

this one kid at coc broke both his poles and someone elses in like 2 days, so he got one of those ski patrol sticks with the orange and black tape, broke it in half and used those. It was bad ass tony the tiger style.

for me i have to like the pole grips. i had so really nice poles but then i fucking snaped one in half and lost the bottom half of it. now i just have shitty rental poles that i stole.

the old z-bends, like three years ago were so much better than the newer ones, I had the old ones for three years before they broke, and went through 4 pairs of the new ones this past season

 
I agree with Ban...I still have the first z-bends to ever come out, the only thing is that the baskets are all broken up. They were composites and they were gas injected. The more current poles were just straight up aluminum, but they were still pretty damn strong, only broke two in two years.

I had a pair of Z-Bends I used in the park. First rail sesion of this past season, and one fall of a 2 foot high rail and they were toast. I have a pair of life link poles and they are sweet. Park or the back country the work great.

 
i have a pair of rossignol poles that are basically the z-bend poles but they're rossignol. they're call the bandit XXX poles. if you wanted you might look for a pair of those. they sort of heavy, but they get the job done through powder and steeps, but i still use stright poles for park days. a friend of mine has the scott gs poles which have basically the same bend.
