great for astro photography, put a 2X extender on there and you can see some wild shit at 2400mm.

it's actually not that big either i think like 32inches long and probably as many pounds (they used these 1200's to film alot of transformers)
 
dude for sure. that is my dream too...
and to whom ever said get closer, there are lots of cases where one can not.
 
i understand not infinitely closer, but close enough you can use a more reasonable lens? the only uses i can really think of are like, stars (the ones in the sky, not the paparazzi), or like shuttle launches or something where you really have to be super far away
