I've been looking at importing a Skyline into Canada.

Is it legal yet to get a Skyline ER34 (1998) into Canada yet? I had heard there were some restrictions but I can't find anything out.
 
Word.

They're going for about 20-30k in the U.S. (assuming you got it from motorex), but I've been hard pressed to find out anything for Canadian regulations.
 
I would take this to a car forum for a better knowledge base possible.

But I do know that they halted the legal importation of the R34 platform a few years ago for the states after that one company was found cheating the system and screwing people over.

I'm not sure if you can still import new to the states R34/R33/R32 s but you can still drive legally converted ones.

As for Canada, I have no idea what your guy's rules are, but i would imagine that they are legal, I think I remember hearing something about them still being legit there.

one question though and maybe it's different in Canada, but you have 120K to spend on a car right now?? (rough going price last time I legitimately check for an R34), I found R32's as low as the 20's but R34's were slim picking under 100K if I remember right.

if you get one, I'll be jealous.
 
Ya your gonna have to have some mad hook ups at the dmv. I think since it has a Japanese VIN number you will have to get a Canadian VIN which I'm pretty sure is illegal so your gonna have to get hook ups but luckily from what I've heard its a lot easier in canada than the US.
 
There was a company out of New York that would import the three different platforms as parts and then assemble them. This was their way around the importation customs problem. I believe that it is legal to import the R33 and the R34 platforms but the R32s are still illegal if I remember correctly. This is in the states though so I'm not very sure about the situation in Canada.

I'm not sure about the companys name, or if they are still in business, but they will import pieces and assemble the car. Mind you this is a very expensive process and probably would not be worth it. If you are willing to spend that kind of cash I would look into the new GT-Rs as they are fast as hell and not very expensive compared to other super cars today.

 
The Nissan Skyline GT-R is basically Nissan's answer for the EVO,STi, etc. it has an incredible AWD system, it has a twin turbo'd straight six that came underrated from the factory. it has a bulletprooof drive train and is fast as hell right out of the box. the car is known as Godzilla over in japan and the reason they are so special in America is up until the recent release of the R35, you could not buy a GT-R off the showroom floor, you could only import rRHD versions straight from Japan and then get them converted at a relativly high price by a company that would then have the car basically in a gray area odf the DMV, many skylines have been repo'd because they haven't met code and it's very difficult to obtain and keep one legally. But if you can you'll have everyone on your nuts, I've seen an R34 and an R32 in person and they are incredible machines. the RB36DETT is easily one fo my favorite engines ever concieved.

amazing cars and have held multiple records at the ring including the current track record for production vehicals in it's class (for the R35) beating the CGT. (carrera GT) and the Pagani Zonda F forthe 6th fastest lap around the Nührburgring Nordschilfe.
 
As previously stated, for Canada the car must be at least 15 years old and pass an inspection to be registered. There is only one legal R34 in Canada and it was brought in as a kit car, reassembled and registered as as such. If i recall it cost the guy close to a 100g to have it, (it's in vancouver by the way). Skylines are fun cars but they also have some issues, if you are serious PM me about it or wait until i finish my 2 papers that are due tomorrow and I can give you more. I have brought in 2 cars so far, one of my friends is an importer and my dd is a RHD silvia with >300whp just so you know that I am not talking out of my ass.
 
Well, I ca;;ed one of my buddies in Ottawa who works at a dealership and basically got many of my questions answered.

I can't import a car that is younger than 15 years old. The ER34 was begun in 1998, so that makes it 2013 before I can get one.

So I have a few options. Get an R32-33; wait until 2013; or get a different car.

I think I may just grab an older Sti or mavbe a Supra MKIII-IV for 20g's or so.

Or maybe I just might move to Japan.....
 
while i was looking up importing one to the us (yeah i know, not gonna happen anytime soon budget-wise and legal-wise), someone had posted about importing it to canada and how it was easier. yes, they had imported the r34 too, not using the 15 year rule b/s
 
i had the privilege to take a ride through Shibuya District in an R34. i promptly went home and changed my pants and threw out my now permanently stained underwear.
