Atomic Theory/Infamous

I just got back from a Salomon test session This post has nothing to do with Salomon. While waiting for it to start I grabbed a set of Atomic Theorys (theories?) and had a few runs on them. Amazing. Very poppy for an all mountain ski, more than happy switch, and holds an edge real well, felt really stable throughout. Shame the park features were closed. Didn't get a chance to try out the Panic, but it's a pretty similar ski, narrower underfoot, so a little quicker edge to edge. Maybe a bit more nimble in the park. They were mounted standard, so not sure what they'd be like centred, probably better off at something like -1.

Then tried out the Infamous. As I've got punx, I was expecting something a bit similar, but they seemed a little quicker to turn, still okay on piste, not quite as grippy edge to edge as the Theory, but still spot on for a park ski (despite not getting to go in the park with them...). The edges were razor sharp, and I found that a bit of a pain, as i kept cathcing edges buttering. I detuned my punx slightly for the same reason - they're a park ski after all, not a carver.

Anyway, long story short, Atomic are killing it this year. The Theory is an amazing ski for people who probably spend most of the day on piste, but want to venture into the park or venture pretty far off piste when they can. Also cheaper than Salomon Remix...

The im famous is a more playfull ski and throughout its length is slightly softer then the new punx. It also has more rocker then the punx. They carve really well still as they have a good amount of camber and are mid stiff under foot.

Did you try the new punx as well. I got a chance to try out both last season and I remember the new punx being even poppier and fun than previous years

Yeah the punx are stiffer then previous years which makes then even popier. The punx were always super nible and easy to throw around but they were just a bit soft. This season they have been stiffened up nicely but have early rise which will mean they are still just as playfull. Between. The imfamous and the punx atomic have a great park ski selection next season.

Didn't get to try out this seasons punx no, but yeh I've seen them, had a feel, they're a bit stiffer, better for going big. I did go for a Salomon test - the Atomic testing was a bonus to fill the time!

The Punx and Infamous set Atomic up for a great year as far as park goes - graphics are sick across their entire alpine range too. I've not seen the Overload boots yet, but the carbon backbone seems interesting, and I'll probably be in the market for a pair.

The Theory/Panic shouldn't be forgotten about as far as park goes. They're both twin tips, but directional, and the carbon backbone thing is great. They're quite stiff, and probably not great for a whole day in the park - that's not what they're designed for, but for people who spend around 50 - 70% of the day on/off the pistes and the rest in the park then yeah, they're pretty much ideal. I'll be investing in a pair of Theorys very soon...

Definitely try some of the new overlords if you can. They are some of the best freeride boots I have tried in a long time. The redster were really good but bringing that tech into the overlord will hopefully let many more people enjoy the bonus of a stiff rear flexing boot too. How did you enjoy the new salomon rocker skis btw. Did you enjoy the new q skis?

I didn't get a chance on the new rockers. The Q90s or Remixes were probably my favourite from the range. Q90 seems a good all round ski, with a bit of width for the deep stuff. The Q series all seemed very good in fact. The X Pro boots are pretty interesting too, they'll certainly be a good seller to 'normal' skiers, who spent most of their time on piste.

Try out the q108 if you can, that was one of my favs. Yeah the x pros are good the new liner is a nice addition. The new ghosts are pretty cool too, can take a bit of fitting to get them right but that's half the fun. Keep an eye out for the even newer gear there are some very cool things on the way.

Anyone know why there is such a large price difference between the Infamous and the Punx? $350 for the infamous seems almost too good to be true. Seems like they have a similar construction to the Punx (capwall, sintered bases) but why the $100 difference?

It's a price point ski. As you say there are not a whole lot of changes so look as it as a good deal for the punx and a simply awesome deal for the imfamous. The punx is worth a bit more if you need it, but if you want a really playfull fun ski you can't go wrong with the imfamous.

Looking for a one ski quiver, I ski probably 60-40 all mountain-park. I was looking at the remixes and seem solid all mtn but what about in the park? Are th

they're very stable and super poppy because of the all mountain focus…full sidewall underfoot with the cap in the tip and tail.

Very poppy and energetic…so more of a jump ski imo than for rails.

I don't spend too much time in the park as it is…but they'll do just fine

I appreciate your response but you told me absolutely nothing about the differences between the two skis? What is it that makes one a price point ski? Is there a difference in core material?

Well it uses the same sidewall, base and edge. They differ slightly on the core but both feature wood core. So overall you decide weather you want a more comp orientated ski or a more playfull jib ski which is slightly cheaper.
