Atomic Punx VS T Halls?

From my original thread:

So I think it's time for me to get new skis. I'll be getting these for the upcoming season, so I'll most likely be getting 2011 skis. I know most people haven't been able to ride this year's skis yet, but based on what people have said, past skis, specs, etc. it would be great to atleast get some suggestions of skis people think would be good, or atleast skis that have been good in previous years. So anyways I'm about 5'6/5'7, but still growing, and I weigh only about 115 lbs. I've only ever ridden one pair of park skis, which are the skis I'm currently using (they're some old 07/08 rossis but I don't really know what skis they are), but I think I would prefer something fun and playful, and really soft (since I'm so light). Probably about 160-170 in length, and will be used on the east coast. I'm probably about 80% in the park (probably about a 50/50 split between rails and jumps that are like 20ft at the biggest) but I do take some runs down groomers every once in a while. - no backcountry around here haha.

------------

So I made this thread back in March regarding what ski to buy, and got lots of great suggestions. Now that it's getting closer to Fall, skis will be dropping in a month or two and I've narrowed it down to two skis: Atomic Punx, or Armada T halls. However, I got a couple of questions and I'd really appreciate it if anybody can answer them.

1. Anybody know if the Punx have changed at all between the 09-10 models and the 10-11 models other than graphics? Because if they're the exact same ski I see no point in shelling out hundreds more for a new graphic.

2. I heard Thalls are getting stiffer by about 10 percent this year or something. Do you guys think I'd be better off getting '10 models, or are there some improvements in the '11 model compared to the '10 ones?

3. If anyone has tried both skis, which one do you think is softer?

4. The Punx are a fully symmetrical ski while the thalls aren't. Do you think a symmetrical ski would be better, or an assymetrical? Or is it really just based on which I like more? Also, are there any real big differences between the two other than the fact that switch skiing will be easier on symmetrical skis while normal skiing on groomers will be easier on an assymetrical?

5. Finally, if your opinion, which ski do you think would probably suit me better? Or are they similar enough that it would really be based on which I like more?

If you guys have any other suggestions, I'm definitely open to them!

Thanks a lot, and +k to all answers!

i don't really have any advice, but i'm getting thalls. i prefer armada over atomic, but its my opinion, i haven't ridden them so i can't really tell you.

Okay i have demoed both those skis in 2011 models and only skied the thall in previus years so i cant tell you the change in the atomic punx.

The Thall is a little stiff than the atomic punx and has 60/40 side constructions so it pretty light and very durable and carves great.

The atmoic punx is pretty soft not the softest out their but still soft, It has normal sidewall constuction but is still light It also very turny.

I would suggest the punx in a 173.

I have like legit the exact same body specs as you and I ride the punx. Great fucking ski. Even though i'm light I can butter the shit out of them and they're only getting softer, because I only have 1 season on them. I've had no problems at all with them durability wise, just topsheet chipping. SUPER light ski. They also hold a great edge on groomers for the east coast, especially for a symmetrical ski. I highly suggest them PM me with questions

i had last years t-halls this year and personally they were too soft in the tip and tail, next years are stiffer and they have a new top-sheet material its really shinny, may prevent chipping, not sure. I have herd the atomics are really solf and are bad at hight speeds. I would go with the t-halls 10/11

Hmm thanks a lot for the replies everyone! To Mr. Pretzel, which did you find to be lighter? And you said you suggest the Punx, but which did you personally like more? Just curious haha

Comparing the weight of these skis is going to be more dependent on your binding choice. The punx are awesome skis. They are soft, but also super stable. I've been riding mine a lot, and I love them.Just get the punx... you WILL be happy.

I know a person who rode thalls and he said he absolutely loved them. I bought a pair of punx but haven't skied them yet :/

Thanks a lot guys! Sounds like I'm gonna go with the Punx!

One last question though haha. For my weight and size, (115lbs and 5'6/5'7), as a skier probably between types 2 and 3, would Marker Griffons be a good binding for me? Or should I go with something of a lower din? Any suggestions for quality, light, lower dined bindings if you guys think Marker Griffons aren't right for me?

Thanks again!

Im your height, weight, and ski level. Griffons have yet to fail me. i love em.

Good choice on the punx. I destroyed my ar6's last year in less than 30 days

Hmm I heard the PX12 jibs are kinda on the heavy side although a better build, but I don't think I'd be aggressive enough/heavy enough to break griffons anyways. And wouldn't the fks140s be overkill if I'm only at about a din 6?

@Pigglywiggly: Thanks man, that's good to know. They sound pretty solid for someone who's not too heavy and being light is a definite plus.

not gonna lie i didnt read the thread but im 5'6, 130 pounds, owned both the urban punx and t-halls, ski a lot of everything. go with the t-halls.

Any particular reason you liked the thalls to the urban punx? And anybody know the difference between urban punx and just the punx? I don't think they even make the urban punx anymore, do they?

@Mr_Pretzel: Yeah that's what I was thinking, haha, thanks!

i like the t-halls more because i feel that they're a more all around ski. the punx are buttery and sure thats good and everything, but when you're bombin down a hill or landing a jump you really want something like a t-hall that's a tad more stiff. the t-halls are still very fun, poppy, and buttery too. i just felt that on the urban punx it was a kinda rickety ride. don't get me wrong, the urban punx aren't bad by any means, but i think armada really nailed it with the t-hall.

i think the punx are a slightly stiffer ski than the urban punx. not sure though. i know the urban punx have the reinforced edge thing underneath, idk about the punx.

msg me with any questions

The Urban Punx (which is gone for 10/11) is a step below the Punx, with the Punx having a better construction (way more stable at speed but still has all of the buttery goodness).

Side note: there is a 1 to 1 correlation between what you buy in the store and what we give our athletes, meaning the skis we give Jossi and Andreas and Chris are the same exact skis you find in the shops (same with Armada). While this may sound kinda obvious, I only bring it up because a lot of companies give their athletes a different ski than what is available for you to buy.

Hmm I see. Thanks! As for the 1 to 1 correlation thing, that's also good to know haha. I didn't know that :P +k!

@Steezyjibber: Ah thanks a lot man, good to know. +k to you too!
