Atomic Punx vs Bluehouse Antics

These are my two main choices for skis for the upcoming season so i was just wondering which ski is lighter, more durable, less swing weight, more pop. I ski probably about 70% rails 30% jumps but some days its the other way around. I am also about 6'1" 175-180lbs so would the punx be too soft? and will i be able to butter/press fairly well on the antics.
 
If you will like a softer ski or not is something I can't answer but I will say that even though the Punx is a softer ski, it is still quite stable on landings. Andreas Hatveit is a pretty big dude, about 5'11" & 200 lbs...
 
punx is softer has less swingweight and is snappier, but its durability isnt all that great. at least the 10/11 skis have very thin edges. i love mine, but they had about 12 cracks after one weekend of shredding. best park ski ive owned. they really are insanely light! cant say much about the antics, never skid them
 
Atomic= Respected, tried and proven company and product.

Bluehouse= Startup company with spotty reviews

Atomic wins by a long shot, no matter what ski you chose from either lineup.
 
Although I've never ridden the antics, my friend bgould.613 has and I'm sure he'd be glad to give you details.

ANTICS HAVE LOTS OF POP, MEDIUM STIFFNESS AND FAIRLY LIGHT. MINE FELL APART REALLY QUICKLY BUT I HEARD BLUEHOUSE IMPROVED THEIR CONSTRUCTION THIS YEAR. I PERSONALLY WOULD PICK THE ANTICS BECAUSE THEY ARE CHEAPER
 
thanks guys +k. i think i might go with the punx for next year. the only thing i am worried about is the edges being i hit mostly rails. i know their edges are supposed to be reinforced next year to make them more durable. so i guess what im asking is has anyone ridden the 2012 punx and if you have how have their edges held up?
 
If you're worried about durability go with Armada or Moment. Obviously they are a more expensive alternative but you make it up with a ski that may last a season or two longer than your other choices.
 
You keep riding that horse buddy, still doesn't change the fact that an AR6 or AR7 is gonna outlast pair of punx anyday.
 
you know how he said armadas are built by atomic? thats because armadas are built by atomic. meaning that every pair of armadas are built the same way that atomics are. so unless armada grabs their skis from the factory and dips em in liquid titanium, theyre bound to last the same.

that said, the punx is a killer park ski. i hate to beat a dead horse, but the ski wins competitions, as youve seen. it is also a blast as an everyday park ski, and will rip the rest of the mountain as well. it is soft and playful, so its a ton of fun on rails, but its built well enough to be stable elsewhere.

my two cents based on a hell of a ton of experience skiing on that ol boy.

Line is made by K2 though, and they're way different than K2 skis. I don't think that just because Armada is built by Atomic means that they will last the same as each other considering how they both use different materials and design etc. Or am I completely wrong on this one?
 
And who do you think owns said factory? Atomic. So therefore Atomic manufactures Armada's skis. Which is a good thing.
 
No, Amer Sports own that factory. The factory is open to any manufacter who want's to hire it for building skis.
 
Yes, it is officially called the Amer Sports Ski Factory, but it's not exactly open to anyone who wants to hire it.

It is and was the same factory location that Atomic had since the 80's, and pretty much all of the machines/presses were made by Atomic. Some new machines are being added, and we just streamlined/rearranged the entire factory to be more efficient. That's a lot of shit to move around. A second factory is located in Bulgaria too, mostly reserved for the lower-end price point skis but some random high end stuff comes out of there as well.

All ski materials (the wood cores, the sidewalls, the bases, the edges, top sheets etc) are produced & created in house from raw materials. All graphic processes & applications are created in house as well. We do not purchase any ski components from any other manufacturer in order to build our skis. In short, they are 100% made from scratch, made by hand.
 
My friend's 10'-11' edges were pretty torn up by the end of the year, but I don't know if things have changed for this year's. I think Atomic uses a harder metal for their edges so instead of the edge rounding out and flattening down it'll crack since the harder metal is more brittle.
 
I love my antics! They are falling apart a little, some of the edge is delamming from the core but they said they fixed it for this year and the ski is just too good to not pay for. It surely is a bang for your buck. Super snappy ski but also flexy. Doesn't wash out on landings and keeps you standing strong. Love the pop on them. Just get them.
 
In addition to all of that^^^...

I am selling some brand new 2012 pumx, size 182, for 330 plus shipping. Therefore I vote you shoot for punx!
 
i'm sure onenerdykid knows but someone else might too. I think I recall seeing somewhere that punx come with a factory tune that makes the edges sharper than other skis that come straight from the factory. and this makes the edges a bit thinner or something?

clarification maybe?
 
I love my punx, but if you are a heavier skier you may be better with another ski. A few of my buddies that are bigger guys have cracked their edges really quickly on rails. Side wall seems fairly durable though, kinda soft so it doesn't crack. I haven't skied the Antics, but Dan at BlueHouse is legit so maybe call him and ask him about his skis. I bet he will stand behind his product.
 
11/12 Punx has a new treatment to the edges that does not make them as "brittle", so they will be slightly softer than in years past. This was done to help improve their durability.
 
ive been on the 11/12 punx since january and have not come across any of the issues that i experienced with my 10/11 ones two seasons back. like a few people said, a few minor changed to the base and edges, and the skis are bulletproof for 11/12.
