Atomic Problems...

Did anyone else have problems with the 2012 Punx? I had mine for all of 15 days before the base cracked on both skis near the edge! had the old Punx and they have held up unbelievably well but these haven't... they are sending me the 2013s (no complaints) but its taken 9 months for them to do anything and they aren't here yet although they did say late august... anyone else have the same issue?
 
Strange, my 2012 punx are holding up fine for now. The best advice I can give you is send a message to onenerdykid. He always gives great advice on anything ski related, especially if it's about atomic.
 
The thing you have to learn about skis is that just because a ski is known to hold up well, or expected to act a certain way that is not always the case. Take the suspects for example. Everyone hates them because of their reputation for shitty durability (I'm unbiased on this because I have never had them, simply observing what the public says). On the other hand, some people stand by the suspects and say they are the best ski they ever had, and they are holding up fine. Another example on the other end of the spectrum that I had to deal with personally was the k2 disorderlys. When I bought the ski back in 09 or somewhere around then, everyone stood by the bombproof construction. I had them for a few weeks, and blew out a 8" chunk of sidewall. In conclusion, we beat the shit out of our skis, and really no ski is bombproof or indestructible. I would just be stoked they agreed with warranting it
 
The reason it is taking 9 months to get you your new skis is because the skis are not in the USA yet- the gear has to be available in order to ship it to you :) So, once they land and are ready to be shipped to your local dealer, you will have them. Good luck with the new sticks!
 
9 months is a pretty unacceptable time for skis to be delivered. What if he wanted to ski before the next season, should really have had some shipped out to him quicker and I wouldn't have stood for that, especially for a company that is usually great.
 
He's getting next years gear...if he wanted to ski sooner he'd have to settle for this past years. They can't give him what they don't have...
 
that'd be fair enough, but would they give him last years model? I figured they'd be out.
 
If he asked for them, I'm sure they would (assuming they, being the factory, had them in stock...again, they can't give what they don't have, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they were sold out of 11/12 Punx...since most shops are also sold out of them). But most people would rather have next years product instead of the current years (especially if they had problems with that current model), which is why most companies offer and upgrade.
 
guy i work with skiied his bonafide's one day, they ended up with tail rocker on one ski lol. anyways, he sent them back to blizzard and was given next years ski free since they were sold out of of the 11/12 model. except he got them pretty quick. He skiied them last march. but, every company is run differently so yea just be happy your getting a new set of sticks. Some people aren't as fortunate in this situation.
 
It is a long time to wait, but the unfortunate reality is that these skis were completely sold out from Atomic by Christmas. So, the next possible time to get new skis would be when the first fall shipment of 12/13 skis arrive, about 9 months later. When a model is completely sold out, isn't physically possible to get him new skis any faster.

Some of those skis are made to order to their athletes. like if somoene like andreas needs a stiffer set he is sent a proto. a lot of skis that sponsored skiers are on are prototypes, which are basically not mass production.
 
This is part of it- just because you see a graphic doesn't mean it's the exact ski. Our athletes are always testing new ideas. They also get sent skis early so they are on time for the comps and movies and photo shoots etc.

But then again, athletes have to wait as well. If the factory is busy making race skis or Nomads or whatever, athletes have to wait until the factory is making more Punx.

Then you also have to think that it takes a bit less time for us to ship a single ski to Andreas (even though it is mad expensive)than it does for 100,000 pairs of skis to reach the shores of the USA and make their way through customs. Waiting in customs is one of the biggest time killers for sure.

 
I am still happy that they are sending me the new ones (by the way i didn't request them), but i didn't hear back from them for an entire 8 months. like no contact after i sent them in letting them know about the warranty. but yeah skis definitely break all the time but just frustrating with a company just saying nothing for 8 months
 
Do you have the Return Authorization (RA) number? You can always call your local Atomic dealer and have them check on it for you. Companies are better suited for dealing with shops, and I bet you will get a faster answer that way.
 
I take it in this case you WOULD have been willing to refund him (had he wanted it) seeing as how you couldn't give him a replacement?
 
ha, to prove your pint, i still have my OG disorderlys as my only ski. they'ev even seen a bit of urban but they're ok.
 
I don't own the 2012's, but one of my '09 Punx delaminated on the nose the first day. Gorilla glue fixed it though, and it's still holding up to the day.
 
I totally would ave gotten a refund if i could, but they didnt say anything after emailing them multiple times asking if they had recieved the skiis and everything... just frustrating. Also a mistake buying skiis online.. wont do that again.
 
He didn't buy the skis directly from Atomic (which isn't possible), so how can Atomic give him a refund? Atomic does not have his money, the retailer he bought them from has his money. Refunds need to be dealt with where he purchased the skis.

Atomic (and almost every other manufacturer) needs to work with a authorized retailer and any return/warranty/refund needs to be dealt with an authorized retailer.

Please, OP send me your Return Authorization number and I will see what I can do and find out what the hang up is.
 
I will soon for sure. I believe its on file on my parents computer, i will message it to you tomorrow thanks a bunch man! yeah just wondering whats up cause they are an efficient operation typically, but just running into some speed bumps along the way was kinda unexpected.
 
Just got a called they were already on there way the intermediate stop (thehouse.com) just hadn't sent them out but they went out today. But thanks a lot man k+
 
Awesome news man, glad you go sorted. One of the bummers about any warranty situation from any company is that there is usually 1 maybe 2 people doing it for the entire USA... it's a lot to manage and usually why you don't get updates each step along the way (it would add even more delays to the process).

But, glad you got some new shiny sticks and are ready for when the snow hits!
