Atomic poops the bed

So around christmas time this year i dedcided to buy myself a new pair of planks. I decided upon the nicely priced Atomic Infamous. I realize theyre a price point ski but they should at least last a season.

So on the 6th day i was out on them (i was only skiing on breaks home from college and some urban) the nose decided to peel up on me

Understanding that sometimes defects happen, i happily took them to my shop where they said this is a common problem with the infamous and should have zero problem warrantying them, they just needed a week to get the OK from atomic.

a couple days later when i went out both of my tails decided to join the club , but even worse than the tip

I wasn't to mad about this because they were already going to be covered by warranty, and if they werent they sure as hell are now.

As of now im at school and my shops called me to tell me that they are covered and i can keep beating on them until im back home and can get some new ones.

I loved these skis and my only complaint was the durability. however, i will never buy another atomic product again (im not sure how durable the punx are) but i would encourage everyone to steer clear of the infamous if you want them to last you at least a season.
 
Glad i read this. I was hesitant on buying them and this helped me decide not too. don't want to deal with the hassle of getting them warranted if this were to happen.
 
Unfortunately this is a very common problem with the Infamous, glad that Atomic was able to get you a replacement pair. I had a pair start to de-lam the tips after about three days
 
Don't judge an entire brands product line based off the experience with one price point ski. Atomic make some of the best skis and boots and as you have seen they have great customer service too. Try the punx maybe.

OP- so a brand has some quality issues with a price-point ski, they say they will warranty your product (get you new skis for free) and you can keep using it until the end of the season (which is totally not the norm since most companies want to see the damage, not the destruction you do after the damage), and you decide to flame them on the internet and tell people to never buy their products? Sounds totally fair.

imo, any company can make a banger $600+ park ski- that's pretty easy. what is not easy is making a fun, durable, and cheap as fuck ski. that sounds like a r&d nightmare.
 
Only ever skied one ski from atomic and it's the punx, can't say I've ever had any issues with them, great pair of skis, do everything and durable so far.

Sorry your skis didn't hold up! Try some punx's maybe!

They're more expensive for a reason!

I wasn't telling people to never buy their products, i was just stating that i never will again. i was however telling people not to invest in this specific ski.

I have no comment about customer service from atomic, because i never dealt with them directly, i just left that to my shop. As for being able to beat on them after the damage was done, that was what my shop told me after the warranty got the OK. The reason for this is that i wont be back home for at least a month and still need something to ski on

I realize that it is a price point ski, and cant comment on any other atomic products as ive never used them. I can however judge a company on the product i bought, because there is no way they were unaware of the problem yet they continued to produce and sell it (even if it was for a low price). When i have bad experiences with a company product, i tend to stay away from other products from the company. Realistically if the situation came along where i could get punx for cheap ide probably get them, but i wouldn't go out of my way to buy another atomic ski

Sucks that your skis came apart like that. My opinion on the ski is that its a relatively new ski to their line so they might not have quite figured out how to make the ski the way they want it just yet. Ever hear someone say you should be a little weary of a brand new car model the first few years? Same thing.
 
you bought a piece of junk pricepoint ski dude, to say you'll never buy another atomic really shows true ignorance.

That ski along with the volkl wall are the most warrantied skis hands down, spend the extra cash and get some punx.
 
Punx has totally different contruction in the tips and tails, also other atomic skis are good quality stuff, only infamous i crap along their very high end race skis.
 
Okay just to get this out there SAME EXACT FUCKING THING HAPPENED TO ME

this is my first season of riding park also...

its only one my one ski and its on the nose.

i talked to the atomic rep in calgary (where i live) and he said that the punx and the infamous aren't actually that much different in construction they are both really similar skis but of course the punx are more durable and have slightly different construction. but the thing i don't understand is that my friend has had punx for i think this is his 2nd or 3rd season on them and they are perfectly fine....

so my overall conclusion is that atomic poops the bed
 
^ just to make this clear i am not mad with atomic i can probably get them warrantied but i'm not sure because i have done quite a bit of rails on them.

this doesn't say that i wont be buying atomics ever again but unless further notice i probably won't be buying the infamous again. also this isn't the first i heard of atomic pooping the bed my friend had his chetlers and was on his like 6th day on them and his ski was kinda delaminating and doing some other weird stuff.
 
This thread makes me sad. I was all for buying a pair of infamouses for spring skiing/next year but I suppose I will hold off and try to find another price point ski
 
If you're looking for a similar full symmetric med stiffness park ski look at the volkl step. I've been on mine 3 seasons now and only recently had problems of delamming underfoot (after a whole season of hitting rails) and a minor bit of tip delam after i skied into a concrete wall. the sidewall also has a smart step down to reduce any top sheet chipping so have had minimal problems there.

they are still awesome skis just any price point ski isnt going to hold up a while i had mine for a whole season and i loved em

That's good to know. I'm not too rough on my skis anyhow. I'm pretty much debating between infamouss or just trolling the sell trade and wait for a used ski
