I didn't know Billy Poole personally, but I'm pretty sure he was jumping off cliffs because that's what he loved to do, not for a "paycheck."  Last time I checked, most pro skiers don't get paid shit.  It pisses me off that this is what your average American thinks of what we do.

Skiing and the passion involved is something only skiers can understand. If they don't, then they don't. There's simply no way of explaining.
 
Those people have no idea what they're talking about, so don't worry about their comments. I'm sure I have similar things to say about the superficial lifestyle most of them probably live, however, I have more sense than to voice them on an internet board in an attempt to rid the world of what I percieve as "problems." Everyone has different values in life, it's just unfortunate that so many people are too narrow-minded to accept this.

its because these people are the type of people who have no life. they most likely are fat pieces of shit who sit inside all day, watching tv, and on their computers, and go to work in their office and sit at a computer some more, their idea of fun is having a friend over to watch tv with them, or if they actually are daring enough to go outside, its to walk their dog. id take dying having fun and doing what i love over dying of a heart attack from too many twinkies any day. and these idiots dont realise that even though he may have died very young, he actually lived more than any of these fags with no life ever will.

i remeber that one guy, forget his name but before he retired he hucked himself off a 240ft cliff and lived (lucky i guess)

Eddie Aikau goes out doing what he did best and is idolized, this guy is no different. Much respect for him having the guts and talent, everybody shit talking is afraid of what he did, thats why they try to justify it by saying they're smarter than him. The skiing world is a community, and because of that we should show respect for an amazing skier no matter how they go out.
 
From what I heard he and his friends sessioned that rock several times in the past.. and they wanted to get it on film this time .... he landed bad... hit rocks... died :(

don't put any stock into what people who consider placing second in their office fantasy football poll their greatest athletic accomplishment say about someone like billy poole. he lived more in the short time he was on earth than any of those rotten balls of smegma will even if they live to 100.
 
Spot on.

They sit behind a desk all day, and likely hate their lives but trick themselves into thinking they love it. They'll either wander thru life pathetically, or die in a car accident while drifting aimlessly and passionessly thru their lives.

I'm pretty sure that if you could talk to Billy Poole in an afterlife, he would tell yu it was all worth it. The man was living the life he loved, and just happened to be getting paid to do it.
