ARV

i have pretty much searched around as much as i could for info on this years armada ARVs and can't really find straight forward info on the skis. i am shopping around for an all mountain twin that can satisfy me skiing in the north east, and out west on occasion. through reading ive been digging the 185 ARV for me (6' 1",190lbs) but have not try them out therefore giving me some uncertainty about the ski.

are they well constructed?

i'm not down with consumption and want something that can last.

what is the stiffness of the ski?

i do like to cruise some groomers at high speeds and do not want something that can't charge or not be able to handle the unfortunate east coast ice, but also want some pop for the park.

what is the difference between this years and next years ARV?

would love to spend less on last years stuff...

any answers would be great fully appreciated, peace.

Great ski. Really poppy.

Here's Freeskier's Online Review...

"One of the first two models introduced by Armada at the company’s

birth, the ARV is the last man standing from those heady days. Slightly

tweaked for 2008 to reduce weight and provide a stiffer flex, the ARV

features Armada’s AR2 core for durability, ABS construction, and a

larger, reinforced edge than the Ant to take abuse."

I have the 06-07 185 ARVs. I am as tall as you but only 170lbs. Mine are absolute noodles, they are fun as fuck for jibs and messing around on.The wideness is cool in the park. Since they are so soft they lose their pop real fast. Mine had almost 0 camber halfway through the season, and by the end they had mini rocker, and now are getting a legit tip rocker. Edges are great, ive urbaned em and slide the fuck out of them. The dicut on the base however is the weak link. Both split right down the middle. https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/341628/

I ski in Wisconsin and we have a shit ton of ice. When the edges were sharp you could rip groomers pretty hard, otherwise the tips got chatterey.

thanks for your input.........gave buying this years a second thought after that last post. Skis seem too soft, I already have a pair of fugitives. Will have to look more into this years model and others...does anyone have any suggestions for a more solid ski than the ARV, for the same type of advertised performance?

^^ keep in mind the guy above u has the 06-07 ones, and this years have a stiffer flex. my friend has 08s for new england skiing and he's happy with them- has no trouble bombing groomed runs and stuff- they seem pretty stiff.

07-08 are significantly stiffer than mine are, and im not to sure if they got any stiffer for next season.

i have this years in 175. Although i'm a pretty little guy, 5'5 125. I find them to be good at high speeds, and charging. I cant really comment on them in the park because, i really never ski park. They are good in the powder, and are pretty light. The only place i dont like them, is in frozen crud. I nearly wanted to kill myself, but i'm sure frozen crud is bad for everyone.
