ARV vs. GUN

alright this is how these things work i think.

I am 17, 6'1, 160 lb. (its either the 185 arv or 188 gun)

I will be skiing west coast pow/glades/big mtn .. no park at all for these babys.

What do you reccomend?

The Jp v Julien might work a bit better, but I would go ARV if you like soft skis and the Gun if you like a slightly stiffer ski.

well will i like a soft ski or a stiff ski more? i cant really tell at my 62 m (no joke) verticle hole i ride at locally..

go to a shop and pick them both up... flex them, see them and feel the width and stuff.

i think you can get a good feel for a ski and what you like by doing that. but definatley look into the other opinion on here- they are usually pretty good from what ive seen

I'd go ARV just cause of the wood core. The Gun is just a beefed up pocket rocket and will eventually turn into one after a while.

However, I would also consider the JP vs Julien, yeah its not as great in the trees as the others, but everywhere else its pretty awesome.

No offense but these are both shitty choices, if you want Armada get a JP vs Julien or be a man and get an ANT. If this is strictly your pow skis, go over 100 under foot. The gun will explode as soon as you clip a piece of grass, we all know about Salomon durability.

dude, salomon has fine durability, have u ever skiied a pair? i mean sure they arent gonna last as long as something with a wood core, but i think saloomns are great skis. maybe the s810 is a poce of shit, but salomon makes some pretty damn good skis.

yea pow skis used to be 80 smthing in the waist....its like u CANT ski pow now without 100 mm or more

my picks would be:

High Level Skier...

Gotama: 183/190

Prophet 100: 186

Tha 187

Less High Level Skier...

Jp vs Jules: 188

Seth: 189

Scratch BC: 185

Atomic Pimp: 183

Big Trouble: 186

These would all be sick in any case, test drive first to see which you like best. I wouldn't get the ARV unless you're kinda new to bc stuff.

uh this years gun is 100+ under foot, as said above have u ever skied salomons, they hold up just as well as anything else, salomon binders yes, they do suck, except for s916s and 914s, the ski is fine, the only problem i have with them is the foam cores tend to get damp to quickly, but yeah if this is really just you big mt. ski try to look for something thats gunna blast through the crud, this years gun is pretty quality, tended to chatter a little to much for me though, ants are a good choice the new mojo 105 or w/e are looking pretty dope,

UMMMM no the Salomon Teneighty Gun is 130/92/122, the 92 in the middle would mean that it is not 100+ like you say. And yes i have skiied many Salomons, and they ski like a wet noodle covered in cardboard. And you are right in saying that foam cores get damp very quickly, he should get a ski that will last more than 1 season. The gun is still the same shitty pocket rocket, with even uglier graphics.

if you can find them, i'd go with a pair of fischer atuas, great ski. it would be my one ski quiver for the west coast. easy medium flex, but really stable. full tail in case you feel like building a booter, at 96 underfoot there's plenty of float without losing manuverability. you can't go wrong with the Atua, especially in this years sexy black topsheet, though last years are good to (same ski, slightly less sex appeal)

^Last year's atuas are actually pretty easy to find lately too, at least around here. That would be an excellent pick.

I'd go ARV were I you, the Jp is a great pow ski but it's not for people who enjoy turning. And the ANT... well, it's beefy. You'd probably have to put on a few pounds to get the most out of it.

183 Gotama?

Those are the dimensions for the 154 Gun. The 188 is 135-101-126. So that would be over 100. Salomon skis ski fantastically. The new Gun is the old Gun Lab footprint, not the old pocket rocket.

Just because you hate them (for whatever reason YOU have) doesn't mean they are bad skis. It is really hard to buy a bad ski nowadays.

dude i was on this years gun for most of last year, its 100 waist at 188 smart ass, which menas its 100mm at the waist dur... and no this years gun doesnt ski like a wet noodle

arv isnt really what your lookin for if u want to talk about wet noodles with cardboard go flex and ARV they are buttery. not to say that its not a great ski for skiing eastern sticks but not as a western ski. Ant would be a better choice if you want to stick with armada that is Gun isn't like the old pocket rockets at all they built a new ski based it off or the 100 waisted gun lab from last year the one with the wood core...

gotoma could work except most places are sold out.

AK enemy could work too would be another great choice.

Liberty C note another great choice cool graphic for the kid who doesn't like the gun blue.

4frnt VCT another good choice as well a little softer then the previous three choices so taht at your 160 lbs you could still use these things when your skiing east coast sludge...

word

ARV's definitely, a couple of my friends have em. There great for what you are using them for. They look good too. Definitly the ARV's.

lol i find it so funny people say you must get over 100mm otherwise itll suck in the pow. I learned how to ski in pow on 65mm waist race skis and im still here

The 4FRNT VCT is a seriously ill ski for a fat-waist ski.

If you're looking for a ski that's 100-110 underfoot I think you'd be very hard pressed to find something as well built and versatile as the VCT.
