Art culture

I view skiing as an artistic medium. Through this lens, what do y’all think would be some defining works (i.e. movies / edits) of modern skiing. I’d say “ON3P 3” and Sammy C’s latest season edit would be on the list.

Chargin and Margarine from Drink Butter and Heart of Skiing from Steve Stepp are the very definition of art.

Interpretation. I know NS hated it because “waaa it’s new wave and there’s too much b-roll” but I thought it was a true masterpiece.

meh even looking at it from an art perspective finito is better imo. Gets me way more hyped to ski which I feel should still be the ultimate goal of ski movies even from an art oriented perspective

finess is their best movie all around imo

Although interpretation is my least favorite bunch movie, I still gotta say it's the best edited of any ski movie I've ever seen, especially the beginning non skiing shots that are all edited together so that they scroll by. That seems like it's probably really hard to do well. On the other hand, I think the flow of interpretation is really bad, whereas finito has an amazing flow that gradually builds up to a climax perfectly. I guess your opinion on which is more artistic depends on which you value more: technical editing or overall flow of the movie?

I can definitely appreciate the technical aspects of the editing in interpretation and there are some greats sequences but like you said the flow is pretty wierd and to me that’s like a huge chunk of what makes an edit good

The Moebius Flip should be a requirement for this class OP

Great post, the sequence that starts at 7:45 is wild

The mogul skiing shot at 8:40 inspired me to make this last year

goes to show how timeless freeskiing is

whoever down voted this definetly didnt see it

also i liked the style of pleasure just not the commentary

I have seen it I don't like it lol, way too much fake deep commentary about skiing with your friends. I don't disagree it's just something that I don't feel like I need explained to me by pro skiers, same goes for how it feels to ski powder
