Armada vs. 4frnt

this isnt meant to be another "who is more core"-thread.

i just went to the best store in austria if it comes to freeskiing, they have brands that arent available elsewhere in europe. so i went in the door with my armada headband and this guy who is working there tells me that armada is just something build up by a marketing machinery and they arent what they supposed to be.

he said that they produce their skis at the atomic factory and so on and told me that brands like 4frnt still have the whole core thing going on.

i mean is armada really a brand that is at least a little controlled by riders or is it just a marketing stuff, or not?

cuz for me, armada has always been the incarnation of a brand that is representing the sport and is doing a lot of things for the sport. wearing a armada tee and riding armada skis was the thing for me, i was so proud last year to get the ar5s cuz they were so rare.

its not a big drama, but if they just push up a bubble with no content i would be pretty dissatisfied with myself for believing alot of shvt that isnt true the way it was supposed.

Armada skis are made at the atomic factory, but are not made by atomic. 4frnt skis are made at Option NFA, a snowboard company from Canada. Neither are as "core" as you would think.

tanners BROTHER tyson is one of the main guys for armada as well as the riders. tanners brother is taking care of business for his skis, sounds pretty core to me.

If you a core company, you cant go wrong with Amplid!

There a new brand, only started berfore christmas last year.

They have their own factory, thier own moulds and is owned and run by legendary snowboarder Peter Beaur (not Jack's brother) and skier Anian Thrainer.

Check out the gear at www.amplid.com

I've tested the ski's and they rock!

Friends have tested the snowboards, and also say the gear rocks!

get involved, go buy Amplid!

in all reality, most skis will feel similar to most of the others. If you get the same length, the differences lie in the flex, width, sidecut, etc.

skis are skis (for the most part), they dont make the skier, they make the SKIS. so having a rare pair of skis or having a ski that doesnt say salomon on them doesnt make you a better or more steezy skiier. they are just skis.

why dont people get all protected about boots? they have more affect on skiing if you ask me. i bet most of us wear salomon.

Most companies are made by another company, not owned but made. How core is that? I hate Atomic, why would I buy an Armada or Salomon? They are both made by Atomic! What about Line being made by Karhu? Super hard core, a tele company making freeride skis? LAME! Buy Ninthward the only true "core" company made in the United States. No one else makes skis in the factory where Ninthward is made.

if you look good, you dont even NEED to ski. people will think you're da shit without you showing them that you cant even straight air. my advice, get decked out in oakley everything, then buy armada everything, and sit in the chill out zone at the bottom of the park. people will see you, think you're sponsored, and ask for your autograph. then you get groupies and free sex etc. its an easy life, you dont even need to touch the snow!

Armada is still a core company, yes there making there stuff at atmoic head courters but so what, all that means is there cost go's down so its a cheeper ski for you. Iv ridden there stuff befor and i shall again sence i just ordered 2 pairs from there 07 line-up and i highly dobt that they shall fail me.

You guys are all so damn smart. Gosh, the knowledge you provide...Somebody say something. Calskier has been the only thing I've paid attention to.

Armada seriously makes some of the best park skis if not the best. The ar5, thall are like the only park skis with a carbon stringer running through them. They are very lively skis. NO one really touches armada.

dude salomon is not made by atomic. this common misconception is the result of salomon being bought by acer sports, the company that also owns atomic. get your facts straight.

really though what has armada or 4 frnt ACTUALLY done for skiing? They have good riders yes, and "represent" our style of skiing but thats about it. Im pretty unsatisfied with the entire industry, but thats the way it goes until something better comes along. and how does having his brother part of the company make them "core"??? Armada just gets tons of money from oakley and then makes skis just as good as anyone else and charges kids way too much for them(as does every company) Unfortunately its all about the cash. AND OH MY GOD! a carbon stringer??!?!?! dude line was running a carbon ollie band through the yellow 1260s 3-4 years ago. Pretty much the term "core" doesnt yet exist in skiing.

arent armada's skis made in the elan factory... and to 4frnt's credit, i believe they helped set up the charity that funded lars veen's hospital bills, and is now aiding marc andre belliveu? (sorry if i spelled that wrong.) and how do you figure armada is funded by oakley? not all their athletes ride for oakley.

if you ask me, some people (like first time jibbers) just buy armada to get noticed by real jibbers. the get armada ar5's and ride all mountain 90% of the time. I have Public Enemys and love them. i have also riden my friends t halls. i loved them, and not just because they said "armada on them."

and about the boots, yeah i think they do make a bigger difference than the skis as far as performance goes

Oh man the Karhu making line skis thing is realy lame, not, Karhu makes manly twins. They are a preety core tele company. Nothing wrong with two core companies getting togeather. And any way the Karhu limited version of the Elizibeth's were much sicker looking.

i have lowa boots, those whole soft boots or pretty soft boots (as i think the 1080 boot is) arent good for skiers in my opinion that arent riding 100% park.

so you looked at an armada ski, and just decided the construction was "kinda cheap"?

that's a real good way to judge a ski...

Ninthward is made at 5axis, which is a snowboard manufacturer in southern California. Thats just as core as 4frnt except 4frnt's are made in Canada by Option NFA. Line's are made in China. Salomons are made in France by Salomon, not Atomic, which is in Austria.

... which is why the edges fell out of the tips of your tanners (not from rail damage) and also why your 500 dollar sidewall JP's got gouged to shit all the way to the core just from ski-to-ski contact.

no need to call gotama an idiot, he just had a different opinion.

Come on people. Who cares if it's "CORE" or not. personally I would prefer that a bunch of homeless chinese children where making skis in a giant sweatshop where they work 20 hours a day and have to eat p-tex shavings for lunch.

kiddin.

4frnt is core. for realz.

90 days on the tanners and urban rails.., and i put the jp's together on the landing of the 77 footer at alpine coming down from 35 feet. Its a legit shot.

So what if they let their skis made by some factory that doesnt have the name armada. The ''recepy'' is still the same. Its way to expensive to have their own factory!! So damn stop it the ski wont change!!

wow, this has actually changed my view of wat to buy for next year. im relitively new to freesking but ive been skiing since i was 3, never knew that armada didnt have there own factory. i thought both 4frnt and armada made there own skis but, i mean, as long as the ski is quality and rides well, im still getting the ar6

its funny how much marketing plays a role in what skis you guys are buying. Really though, alot of you only want a ski if its from a core company cause it will all the sudden make you ubber steezey. Come on why dont we buy a ski that we like to ride and the way it skis. Who gives a shit who makes it

no its not about buying a core company for its "steeze" its about buying/supporting a company that actually cares about you and skiing. and it def is alllll marketing. 382.

And I am the idoit? If you can't tell good construction on skiis from doing research on them you would be the idiot. Caps aren't always bad either some find it provides a more bouncy ride to, not that I am a fan but.

Jksl, I said after look at it,it being the construction, the construction being that of a Armada, Armada being a core ski company that this thread is actually about. I decided that its really just another plywoodish laminated cheaper ski. I would rather go with a solid wood core personally and think its a higher construction. Is that clear enough for you? Or do I need to get a etch-a-sketch and some crayons?

i'd actually like to see this...

but don't you think you should maybe...hmmm...RIDE the skis before you can actually give your opinion on them? just a thought...

highsociety makes their skis with a carbon fiber stringer...who cares if their "core" but if u want core go with highsociety, kingswood, ninthward, and any custom made ski bam custom = core

Yes, at the factory 4frnt abandoned because of widespread construction issues, cut corners, and generally shady business practices. Which I'm sure works just great for ninthward, but how's this: a core company should actually support skiers and support the rest of the industry. Ninthward is about making money at others' expense, not about growth. And you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about re: production.

Every single fucking one of these threads is so full of complete idiots posting their worthless, misinformed opinions it makes me want to vomit. Armada "looks kinda cheap"?? Ever skiied the things? They measure up to anything else I've ever been on easily, and I've been on more than a few companies' skis. Whatever, keep riding Volkl... by the way, shittiest skis made this year? Dogens. Whoops.

I wish it was possible to stab people over the internet. You should have to be held accountable for this level of stupidity.

A month or so ago i took a tour of the option factory in vancouver and saw next seasons 4FRNT's. I was very impressed by the quality of the skis and boards made there. Next seasons 4FRNTs will some of the best made skis out there. How can a new company like 4frnt,armadam or ninthward raise the capital to open a factory to meet the production #'s they need to? They can't so they have to out source there production to established factories and companies who will build to their exact specs, it doesn't make them any less "core"

The man has got a point, boots are the most important piece of ski equipment. I wear dalbello krypton pro, and although these had a HUGE impact on the bank (I got end of season deal at $375), and I knew I had to pay for them myself, I just bit the bullet and saved up. Boots are by far the most important part of equipment, and it is imperative that you get good fitting boots, otherwise your skiing will suffer.

I have riden them too, and I don't just stick withsomething because its what I like, its what works best, I have ridden plenty of skiis myself, I think they are fine, nmothing special. But of course you are "JD MAY" OMG so you are the be all end all of everything. Just becuase you have an idea doesn't mean other people are idiots.
