Armada JJ OR Armada ANT?

Hey I'm considering buying either the JJ or the ANT, but I don't know which would be better for what I ride.

I do alot of quick tree skiing, and alot of alpine touring.

Help me out?

hmm...the quick tree skiing would go good with the JJ's but the alpine touring would go well with both JJ's and ANTs...so if i were you i would go w/ JJ's, but you might want to check out some ARG's if you are big enough to throw em around in trees (i assume you are cuz you want some ANTs.)

Neither of those skis are for turning. As a result neither of those skis is good for tight trees. At all. I've owned both.

I've owned both. I'm about 5'10 140lbs. I had the brown ANT's and liked them, but not enough to keep them. I'm just more into playful skis. They ANT's definately could be fun for hauling ass but I would rather have something else. If you are bigger though, definately I'd recommend them, and the newer ones are softer. Great Ski. The JP Juliens are my pick of the two. I only like the JP's in soft snow though because of their lack of much of a sidecut. As for touring, the JP would make an excellent choice because it is so straight and light, but not going to be superturny in the trees.

I would disagree on many of the views here on the turning ability of the JJ's in trees. I've skied them heavily in very tight tree skiing situations and have found them great for this. Certainly, they smear turns more than the ANT's will, but I found this to be of no detriment to my ability to crank out quick turns. Personally, I would highly recommend the JJ's for both touring and tree skiing.

I should note that I ride the 178's.

why so? tree skiing usualy means deep ass snow and alpine touring usualy means deep ass snow, so if he is big enough the ARG's would be great..i would get some massivly fat skis if i would tour the bc a lot. but im lazy.

True. They just dont seem like they would be responsive in any sense of the word. The reverse sidecut doesnt seem like it would be very conducive to tight turns in between trees

ya thats why i said if he was a big enough guy to throw the ARG's around i would suggest them. and your not gunna get much edge in pow.

The jps would be better touring wise due to weight. They weigh far less than my chronics which are a full 11cm smaller.

Slipping around on sidehills wouldn't be my idea of fun in the backcountry, but if you want to try to set an edge on those things by all means go for it.

Anyways, I've seen people touring on both so I don't think you can go wrong. They're both relatively light, so it just comes down to what kind of skiing you'll be doing.

sorry for jumping in on the thread with a little off subject thing but how do the touring bindings hold up? i dont think ill get some anytime real soon but can they take some pretty hard skiing...like cliff jumping, natural jumps etc? i herd you dont want to do to many airs and stuff with them..

sick thanks...ya i have been looking at the dukes at my local shop, look heavy duty...marker really step up this year from what ive herd..

off topic but...

what are the common charectoristics you see in skis that perform well in trees?

or is it just small turning raduis and semi-fatness

A lot of you have no idea what you are talking about...at all. The JJ's are great in the trees, believe me. They are super light and nice and soft and just a whole lot of fun. Also, people saying ARG's would be bad tree skis...are retarded. Are you kidding me? ARGs are like the ultimate tree ski. Those were like made to throw around and pivot and slide. For how fat they are, they are definitely the lightest skis I have ever felt. With that shape they are probably super responsive in poweder.

well, JJs lightness makes up for lack of turn radius, but you have to muscle the quick turns in trees, so, im going to have to agree, but say the JJs are the better of the two for trees, just cause they're so light and snappy, you can force them to do what you want without too many problems.

You'd be surprised the turns you can make in ARGs, they can actually turn pretty well on hard pack, its amazing.

i'd look into ARV's as well - they stiffened them up this year and they will be much better for shorter turns

So so wrong. ARGs are the greatest tree ski I've ever used. And they are light. Not just for their size, but light period. As long as you can get some big skins, ARGs + Dukes would be a siiick setup. Although there appear to be problems arising with durability and inaccurate DIN levels in the heel piece, but the overall impression is still that they are the sickness. And sidehill traversing/skinning would be a little tough on ARGs, but it's all worthwhile on the way down.

Back to the original topic, I've had JJs and ANTs. JJs are probably the better option for trees and touring. The low camber makes the JJs pretty damn good in trees actually, but I love the ANTs for pretty much everything else. The high tail on the JJs may make it difficult for attaching skins, but I don't know.

yeah i've just got arv's

there're much stiffer than last years, more manoverable (spelling) and they will be good for touring.

personally i would go for them over JJ's unless you are planning on heading to BC for the seriously soft stuff
